good, inexpensive adapter. great value.

Pros: Inexpensive, easy to set up, compatible with nearly everything, plays nicely with various motherboards, backed by LSI. Works flawlessly with FreeNAS & ZFS.
Cons: None
Overall Review: As others have said, this is an LSI SAS3081E-R. It took 5 minutes to upgrade the to the latest LS firmware using a FreeDOS live CD. I tried it on both a SuperMicro Atom FreeNAS build and Gigabyte 775 Windows 7 x64 build. Immediately recognized and workes flawlessly in both. The final destination is the FreeNAS box, using ZFS and this card flashed with non-RAID, JBOD firmware. I used these cables : areca CB-R87SA-75M Right Angle SFF-8087 MiniSAS to 4 SATA http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816151081 Because: - they have right angled connectors at board and I have very limited space in the Atom mini-ITX case - they have locking SATA and SFF-8087connectors It works perfectly, though I wish the cables were shorter.
fast

Pros: Fast.
Cons: Win 7 x64 setup is more difficult.
Overall Review: Compared to the Samsung SSD, I had many more issues during the Win7 x64 setup. Essentially, this drive had issues with ACHI and native SATA setting with 2 motherboards - it repeatedly halted the OS install - whereas the Samsung had not problems at all on the same boards The solution was to use IDE mode until setup was complete, then switch over to ACHI and native SATA. Everything turned out fine, but it was a pain to figure out.
so far, so good

Pros: Fast, quiet, no errors.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: I'm very pleased. It replaced another blu ray that died after just a few months. I've used this one heavily to rip a couple hundred BR's and not a single problem. Identical to the less expensive model. Get the cheaper one.
quiet, cool

Pros: Quiet, cool, very little vibration
Cons: None
Overall Review: Not quite as fast as the Hitachi 4TB 7200, but acceptable. Wish it was 6 TB
fast, stable BUT with mounting issues

Pros: Fast, immediately recognized by Win 7, solid bios
Cons: It made for a slimline server case, meaning the slot mount is reversed. Needed a little modification to fit in a desktop case. -1 star for desktop mounting issues
Overall Review: Aside from the mounting issue, it is a solid card with a LSI bios. Requires 2x SFF-8087 SAS-SATA "forward" cable. These are inexpensive and widely available online, including at Newegg If you have a server OR you are comfortable with a very easy mod of the mount for a desktop, this is a great card.
Quiet

Pros: When slowed down, it's very quiet.
Cons: None
Overall Review: It works.
