TRITTON AX Pro Dolby Digital 5.1 True Surround Sound Headset With 8 Precision Speakers – XBOX/PS3/PC
TRITTON AX Pro Dolby Digital 5.1 True Surround Sound Headset With 8 Precision Speakers – XBOX/PS3/PC

Pros: I picked out this headset after much research and playing around with cheaper virtual surround sound sets with poor results. The 5.1 audio on this headset is hands-down outstanding. It is very easy to pick up on directional sound, since the speakers are right around your head. The decoder box that comes with the headset has two outputs to your machine: optical audio (for Dolby Digital sound), and USB audio (for stereo audio and mic output). The USB is great as you can set a game's voice output to a separate channel, allowing you to isolate chatting and game volume separately. The headset comes with two sets of padding: cloth, which breathes better and allows sound around you to bleed through, and leather, which blocks out sound, but a bit warmer on the ears. If you do not have 5.1 optical out on your PC, you can use the G9 adapter to hook up to a standard three-plug stereo jack input (plus mic output), but you don't get the advantage of the separate USB voice channel.

Cons: There is quite a bit of wiring, as others have said. However, I don't have a problem with this at all. I recommend setting up your decoder box on your desk and have the rest of the wires behind the desk. That way, you only need to plug in power and sound to the headset on a daily basis (which both come from one cord from the headset). You do need two power plugs for this headset (if you are using the decoder box), but TRUST me it is a small price to pay for the quality you get in return. The only other drawback that may trip people up is that the optical input only accepts Dolby Digital encoding. Therefore, you are limited to stereo sound unless the application outputs Dolby Digital sound. Best way to get around this is to buy a sound card that supports Dolby Digital Live, such as Creative's Sound Blaster XFi Titanium. With this setup, I can keep my playback device as the standard sound card and output to both my speakers and headset with absolutely no hassle.

Overall Review: I also wanted to mention that when I received this headset, the decoder box was not working properly. The optical port door was broken off (making it hard to keep the optical cable plugged in) and it was not properly decoding Dolby Digital sound. I figured this would be a big problem that would require an RMA from Newegg, but I contacted Tritton anyway. Their help desk was so incredibly nice and helpful! They quickly troubleshooted the issue with me and determined it was in fact the decoder box. They instantly shipped me out a new one with NO RMA necessary. Since the box was half-working, they wanted me to have minimal downtime and be able to use the headset while the replacement was in transit. They also did NOT require me to return the defective part! You may have read other reviews talking about build quality, but I assure you this product is built very well. You can also buy with confidence, knowing their support will stand behind their product. HIGHLY recommended!

Excellent card for its price range

EVGA ACX Cooler 03G-P4-2784-KR G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 780 Superclocked 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Video Card
EVGA ACX Cooler 03G-P4-2784-KR G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 780 Superclocked 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Video Card

Pros: Excellent base card, good superclocking, excellent aftermarket cooler, further overclocking support, good bang-per-buck at this price range

Cons: Expensive!

Overall Review: The card is a good choice if you are looking for a GPU in the $500 price range. If you can get this card around the same price as the base GTX780, the superclocking and ACX cooler are excellent addons. The higher base clock rate will help squeeze a few extra fps, and the cooler keeps the temperature down. Overclocking further than this is possible, but I have not tried it yet nor tested it for stability. If someone is looking for a quick benchmark for this card, I have this card running Battlefield 4 at 1440p using the optimized settings on GeForce Experience (mostly ultra settings, but a few things dialed back) at 70fps. If you have the money to spend on it, Nvidia takes the bang-per-buck for this price range (even though AMD has the best bang-per-buck in the $200-$400 ranges). Make sure to grab it when the Holiday Bundle is active for three free games!

Excellent for a Niche Market

NVIDIA SHIELD Portable
NVIDIA SHIELD Portable

Pros: Powerful mobile processor, high-quality optimized apps, controller mapper for touch game support, excellent PC streaming, excellent console mode

Cons: Small number of optimized apps, no support for PC Streaming outside of your wifi network, heavy for a controller, not for everyone

Overall Review: The Shield is an excellent console, but only for certain people. I purchased this along side a GTX780, as my 570 was unable to support streaming, as that is only included in Kepler architecture cards. The Shield works great for PC streaming inside your home (over wifi), but support outside your network is not provided. However, I am using my home VPN to connect to my PC, which works excellent as long as you're on a connection with a low ping (I'd say less than 50ms directly to your PC). Playing games with native Shield support or Steam Big Picture support work great. I've tried certain games, such as Half-Life 2, PixelJunk Monsters, Stanley Parable, etc, and it's a lot of fun doing it. I don't think this is good for multiplayer First-Person Shooters or anything that is mouse-heavy (RTS games, for example), so that is out. However, the Shield can support Bluetooth controllers (and possibly keyboards/mice in the future), so there are plenty of options out there. I'd say consider it if you have a 7xx or 8xx Nvidia card and would like to have PC streaming available throughout your house (or, if you can set up a VPN, on strong wifi). Otherwise, this device is not meant for you.

Excellent quality fan + Great Looking

Antec 761345-75024-0 Blue LED 3-Speed Case Cooling Fan
Antec 761345-75024-0 Blue LED 3-Speed Case Cooling Fan

Pros: Excellent quality cooling. The three speed option gives you the ability to trade off better cooling for louder sound, or vice versa. LEDs work great for illuminating the inside of the case without need of dedicated neon tubing.

Cons: Can be loud on fastest setting. However, the three-speed switch can help control the loudness of the fans.

Overall Review: I used these to fill in the extra slots for fans in my Antec Nine Hundred case. These are actually the exact fans that Antec includes with the case. Get three of these to completely fill the Antec 900 and be fully ready to cool down your PC case!

CORSAIR 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Laptop Memory Model VS1GSDS667D2

Pros: It's your standard, run of the mill RAM. No problems upon installation, ran MemTest86 on the RAM for an extended period of time with no errors.

Cons: None that I can see

Overall Review: This was used for a Core Duo MacBook (non-pro). Worked perfectly. Recommended!

Excellent GPU

EVGA 320-P2-N815-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
EVGA 320-P2-N815-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Pros: Excellent cooling, great GPU, excellent implementation of the GPU

Cons: 320MB version is definitely slower than the 640MB version

Overall Review: The 8800GTS is a great card at the start, regardless of the size of memory. The Superclocked versions that EVGA put out are excellent due to the extra cooling they put on the card, as well as the factory overclocking. I recommend overclocking above the 576mhz OC speed to get even more out of the card. You'll definitely get bang for your buck that way!
