Finally a perfect motherboard design for me

ASRock Z690 Taichi LGA 1700 Intel Z690 SATA 6Gb/s DDR5 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock Z690 Taichi LGA 1700 Intel Z690 SATA 6Gb/s DDR5 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Very reasonable PCIE lane allocation for my applications Good and considerate header and back IO layout

Cons: None so far about the product. However, Asrock products don't seem to appear as frequently as other brands on a web search. I think fewer people would know or look at this product even when I think it's so good.

Overall Review: I built a new PC to replace an old i7-6700K/Z170 system. When the Z590 platform came out, I planned to upgrade but didn't find a single motherboard that would meet my requirements. My old system was based on the ASUS Z170 WS, which has a PLX chip to support x8x8x8x8 PCIE devices. I did populate all slots: 2x graphics CrossfireX, SoundBlaster AE-9, Avermedia 4K capture, and a Thunderbolt 3 card. So, for a replacement motherboard, I want the old configurations can still be all supported. I checked the specs of all Z690 motherboards on Newegg and found the Z690 Taichi the only one capable of such configurations without losing/wasting PCIE lanes: 1. A graphics card at Gen4x16, or two graphics cards at Gen4x8x8; 2. Two M.2 Nvme drives at Gen4x4 and RAID0; 3. A sound card at x1; 4. A capture card at x4; 5. Thunderbolt 4 on-board. Other unique design and layouts include: 1. Wifi antenna ports are placed at a less crowded area of the back panel. It encourages me to use the normal stick antennas because they are not in the way of other IO ports whether the computer is standing or laid down. 2. A half USB 2.0 head near the DIMM slots supports a water block with a display (NZXT Z73). No USB ports are wasted. 3. Built-in VRM fans are good for my case (Thermaltake P5), which doesn't have case fans and use it in a test-bench style. 4. I also need the Intel UHD graphics to watch UHD Blu-ray discs. The Z690 Taichi supports up to 3 displays from the iGPU. And the iGPU can be used along with a PCIE graphics card.

Not exactly what I had expected

SAPPHIRE Radeon Pro Duo 4GB x 2 HBM PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card 21253-00-40G
SAPPHIRE Radeon Pro Duo 4GB x 2 HBM PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card 21253-00-40G

Pros: This is a very nice looking graphics card. It has good computing power.

Cons: I bought this graphics card because I thought this could be a product makes history: a truly hybrid device incorporating both professional and consumer features. I was disappointed to find out it is not the case. I have been using both FirePro/FireGL and Radeon products for more than a decade. The first graphics card I own was ATI FireGL 2. The IBM GPUs were designed with only OpenGL 1.2 at mind, which wouldn't even run DirectX games in the beginning. I was glad to see a convergence of the two worlds when most professional graphics cards were simply reconfigured gaming cards. AMD has also done a good job of bringing down the price of professional cards. However, I really hoped there would be no more distinction between the professional and consumer graphics cards, since there are features not available on Radeon cards, such as 10-bit OpenGL pixel format and windowed CrossfireX. At the announcement of the Radeon Pro Duo, it seems to me that AMD has made it a reality: a graphics card for creators who game and gamers who create. It even included a FirePro driver package for this card. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to obtain any of the professional features that I had hoped for.

Overall Review: Early news reported that a third Fiji GPU would be included as a gift within the package. This is not true, at least for me.

Still unused

Overall Review: I still haven't opened the package as there is no motherboard to put it on and no memory sticks to put on the motherboard and no cooler to cool it. No matter what kind of production or shipping issues are happening now, the launch of the 12th gen doesn't seem to be well planned and prepared. I wish I could give it a review based on the performance. For now, a score of middle-egg is appropriate.

It works but with one flaw

M.2 NGFF SATA SSD to 2.5 IDE 44pin Converter Adapter with Case (Black)
M.2 NGFF SATA SSD to 2.5 IDE 44pin Converter Adapter with Case (Black)

Pros: Converts a M.2 SSD to an IDE HDD for old laptop computers Lightweight Full compatibility with the IDE interface

Cons: There is only one stand for the M.2 screw on the 80mm position

Overall Review: I bought the adapter to install an M.2 SSD on an old VAIO laptop computer. My M.2 SSD is 42mm in length. But the adapter has only one stand at the 80mm hole. I wiggled the stand out and tried to solder it on the 42mm hole. It didn't work so well as the pad fell off when I punched the stand in. It's kind of loose but holds the SSD in place. My original plan is to secure the adapter in the computer. I can just swap the M.2 for different operating systems. For example, Win98 on one SSD and WinXP on another. It seems that I need to be careful when I do so because of the loose stand.

Not what I expected due to misleading descriptions

3 Thin Fans Mount Rack PCI Slot Bracket for Video Card + 3x80MM thickness fans
3 Thin Fans Mount Rack PCI Slot Bracket for Video Card + 3x80MM thickness fans

Pros: The fans have 15mm thin thickness and are working properly

Cons: The brackets are for normal thickness fans and cannot be used.

Overall Review: I need a single PCI slot cooling solution. My system is an open bench setup with two FirePro W7100 graphics cards. Without case fans, these graphics cards go to about 100C under load, which is not ideal for performance. I have fully populated the PCIE sots: a sound card, an HDMI capture card, and a thunderbolt 3 card in addition to the graphics cards. Since the FirePro cards are single slot, it leaves one slot for each card to add PCI fans. The product could have worked if they were the same as the description and photo. However, despite the correct fan size, the brackets are larger than the fan thickness. It makes not only assembling the fans awkward, but most importantly, impossible to install the assembly in my system. I end up using zip ties to bind fans to a PCI back plate. If I had known that, I would have ordered just 6 thin fans. There should be quieter ones with better performance.

Unique headset

Sony SBH90C (1313-4381) Black 2-way Style USB Audio & Bluetooth Headset
Sony SBH90C (1313-4381) Black 2-way Style USB Audio & Bluetooth Headset

Pros: Supports both Bluetooth and USB C. When connected using USB C, high-res audio of 24bit/192khz is available. The difference of audio quality is not significant by my ears, but that's very interesting technology. Something worth boasting.

Cons: The USB C port is flimsy when using a generic cable. The included cable is specially designed for the headset to secure the port. It may not be easy to find a replacement cable if I lose the original one.
