Fast and Easy

G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-2133C10D-8GAB
G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-2133C10D-8GAB

Pros: Easy to install. No issues with the speed. Booted right up at 2133 (not 1600 as some report) on ASUS M5A97 R2.0 with AMD-FX 8320 Vishera. I don't believe this was listed as compatible with the motherboard at the time of purchase, but I did note another set of GSkill with the same timings that was so I took a lucky gamble. I bought these rather than the Ripjaws or Snipers because they matched the color theme of my build and were low profile enough that the H80i tubes wouldn't touch them. Turns out that was a good choice because the tubes are pretty close to them even being low profile. But they are not touching! This RAM doesn't appear to get over hot at all. It runs stable at the specified speed, at least in my board. Zero complaints.

Cons: None so far.

Solid performer, looks cool

Antec HCG M HCG-750M 750 W ATX12V 2.4 & EPS12V 2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: I bought this when my old mobo died and I couldn't determine whether that was the issue with my system, or if it was the PSU. Due to other circumstances I had believed it to be the PSU so I bought this guy when there was a nice rebate with it. I had done my research and found that this hardware was manufactured by a highly reputable maker so I felt comfortable buying it. There are a few makers well known for quality and this was made by one of them for Antec. I also liked that it was modular and gave the option of lighting up white if you want. It's performed solid since my build (early 2014). I don't have any complaints at all. It works, it powers my components without issue, and it isn't loud at all. Plus it looks cool with the white light in there. Had zero issues getting the rebate. I don't know if people don't follow directions or what, but I have never had an issue with a company granting me a rebate through newegg at all. You have to abide by and follow the guidelines in the rebate offer to submit for one is all... Antec sent me a card in the mail pretty quickly and I had no problems with that.

Cons: The only thing I would have preferred is if it were FULLY modular, but I knew it wasn't going in so I can't dock an egg for that. That was my choice in buying.

Fast as all get out

AMD FX-8320 - FX-8000 Series Vishera 8-Core 3.5 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Desktop Processor - FD8320FRHKBOX
AMD FX-8320 - FX-8000 Series Vishera 8-Core 3.5 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Desktop Processor - FD8320FRHKBOX

Pros: This is a fast processor. I had a hard time deciding between the i5 and this chip. If I had based my decision on what people say on gaming forums and the like, I would have gone with an i5. I'm glad I didn't. This chip is lightning fast. For reference, I do a little bit of everything, but I especially play games, surf the web, and create multimedia assets. I have an i5 in my work laptop and granted it's the mobile chip and all and a little slower clock (3.2) than this... but it does NOT outperform AMD 8320 doing the same tasks (minus the gaming; I can't play games on the work laptop). The 8320 is at least 5x faster than the laptop's i5. At least. I don't benchmark or I'd tell you for sure. I do know that I get lag with the i5 when I have more than 5 tabs of a browser open in conjunction with 1-3 MS or Adobe products open, while I had at least 26 tabs open, Everquest running, and Adobe going on the 8320 rig without a performance issue. The chip isn't overly hot either, but then I have a Corsair H80i cooling it so I can't really tell you what it might be running at with the stock cooler. No issues with this chip. No bent pins. Great packaging. Worked immediately in the mobo. Bought this to play EQ Next/Landmark. Seems over capable.

Cons: None so far.

Solid and reliable board

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB 950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB 950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: I paired this with an AMD-FX 8320. Despite some reviews, I think this board is rock solid. I haven't had any issues with it. It even recognized my RAM at the correct speed (2133) without tweaking. The BIOS is out of this world and easy to use. Even if I wasn't tech savvy I would probably be able to navigate and use the BIOS effectively. This board booted right up without issues upon build. It didn't suffer from a 6 month sit either. Booted right up after some messing with the watercooler without issues. Haven't had any BSODs. No errors.

Cons: There are only two things that concerned me about this board. One, the power connector is way at the tippy top of the board. Luckily, I planned on using extensions for my PSU cables so this wasn't an issue for me with those on but when I first installed, I really had to make it work with my PSU's existing cable. And two, this board reports super high temps in my Corsair Link software but super low temps using the BIOS. I'm not sure why, but it's telling me the one sensor is at over boiling which is impossible because I have stuck my hand in there after shutdown to make sure it isn't right and I'm not frying things. I think this might be located between the GPU and the CPU and I may add a secondary fan somewhere in there to see if it makes any difference. I haven't had any issues and there is definitely nothing at boiling heat in there so I'm assuming the sensor is faulty. Still, scared the heck out of me when I saw it at first. I know there are utilities from ASUS for fan speed/temps but I want to run them through Link so that's kind of annoying, but not enough to really gripe about as long as the temps aren't REALLY that high.

Nice quality case but a little tight

Thermaltake Chaser A31 VP300A6W2N White SECC ATX Mid Tower Gaming Case
Thermaltake Chaser A31 VP300A6W2N White SECC ATX Mid Tower Gaming Case

Pros: This is a nice case for the money so it's a good value. I wanted a white and blue build so I was split between this, the NZXT Guardian, and the Corsair Stormtrooper. This was a lot more cost effective so I decided to go with it. I love the space on top for sitting items like flash drives or phones. I regularly stick my phone up there to charge using one of the USB ports directly under it. And the placement of the ports is great also. They are easy to access. (My old NZXT Apollo case was pretty but its panel was on the far side of the case at the bottom which was a never ending annoyance. ) The USB ports are 3.0 which is great too. Other things that are awesome... it's so easy to remove the top panel and the side panels and pull out the dust filters. I love being able to do that. The mesh on the top and front allow my blue LEDs to shine through, which looks cool. The finish of the interior and exterior of the case is beautiful and looks expensive. Removable HD cage. Easy 5.25 installation. So easy I wasn't sure I installed the drive properly to be honest. All good things. Blue and white styling looks modern and interesting without being too clunky and "plasticky."

Cons: There IS a fair amount of room in this case for an ATX build. It took me a bit of planning but I did manage to fit extra extension cables (for appearance, not a case issue) in it too. But, it could use just a little bit more room behind the mobo tray in my opinion. Even just a few mm.

Overall Review: Paired with ASUS VX238H-W 23" Widescreen monitor. Looks nice together. Both are "modern" looking pieces. White pops nice against a grey wall.

Beautiful picture, sleek design

ASUS 23" LCD Monitor 1ms (GTG) 1920 x 1080 2 x HDMI, D-Sub, DVI-D (Via HDMI) VX238H-W

Pros: Beautiful resolution, sleek design. Nice inputs. Feather light. White matches my Thermaltake Chaser A31 and pops against my grey walls. Love the modern circular base. Really looks worlds different next to my work screen (Dell)! Oh and the screen is so huge it's taking me time getting used to it during gameplay (I mean, I was using a 17" before).

Cons: None.

Overall Review: Paired with Thermaltake Chaser A31 in white. Powered by NVIDIA. Looks nice connected with just the DVI. Haven't tried the HD yet because my (outdated) card doesn't have it. Haven't had need of the speakers because I have a 5.1 surround system with subwoofer that I use for audio.
