Samsung 830 and Casper 7
Pros: Huge speed and performance boost, easy install and data migration (once you find the right software to do the job)
Cons: None so far. Prices still high but coming down. I finally picked one of these drives up. I'd wanted one for a couple years now!
Overall Review: Beauty of a drive! No problems turning on AHCI in BIOS. No problems with Samsung Magician SSD software. Cloning wasn't as easy as I hoped though. After having a rough go trying to clone my system drive with Acronis, I found a great little piece of software called Casper 7. Everything was smooth sailing from there on out. I downloaded over at CNET for free (trial version, but only limit is no volume resizing, nothing windows native disk mgmt can't handle). I can't say enough about how much simpler, quick, and worry free using this was compared to even EaseUs, Acronis, Clonezilla. It was seriously one click to upgrade my windows disk... and after cloning, it was a piece of cake to copy and delete partitions on my other drives too (backups, music files, etc). Whole system was upgraded in an afternoon... and what a difference a day makes! I basically have a new computer just from a single drive upgrade. Amazing!
Good Memory! Blue Tracer lights!
Pros: Love crucial memory. Have used it for ages. Always a solid performer. I put these sticks into an Asus M4A79XTD EVO board. It auto sets them at 1333Mhz... so you have to go into the BIOS to manually set the timings to 1600Mhz - 8-8-8-24 @ 1.65v. The machine hiccuped a couple times after doing that... but then has run fine ever since.
Cons: Again, just the couple BSOD's the first week. But none since. Machine parts just learning to play nice with each other i suppose. ;)
Overall Review: The blue lights dancing across the top of the memory sticks is cool at first... but in the future, i think i'll stick with regular memory sticks without the LEDs.
Cool and Hot!!
Pros: Cool looking case. Lots of airflow. Great fans included. Temps inside are much improved over my last case. Plenty of room for installing. A ton of drive bays ~ wow! Thumbscrews galore make installs easier ~ also i love the the 2 clip-in, screwless drive bays.
Cons: Some people like the lights... I don't know if I like the lights. They're not too bad though ~ red LED fan, red power, red reset. I'm thinking of disconnecting the power button LED... but it's the only thing that let's me know when the machine is sleeping or totally off. Also, the location of the buttons on the front and the tight space under my desk means that one small slip of the knee (or other body part (calm down ladies, i mean my hand or foot (yes, "ladies" is part of the joke... i know this site is all guys -haha))) causes an accidental power down or reset!! Workarounds: pull the desk out and push the tower back further or attach some kind of power switch cover to avoid accidents. It would be nice though if thermaltake put a hinged plastic cover over the buttons though... so you could just flip it up to power on/off and flip it back down to avoid a big "Oops!" while you are working on those important documents, editing audio/video, chatting with a hot chick, gaming, etc
Overall Review: I wish the audio connectors on the front were 1/4 inch instead of 1/8 inch. Not sure if that would be a popular choice with everyone though.
Great Board!! Gives one lots of options.
Pros: Lots of output options. Very nicely done. I've got USB ports coming out of my ears! I like the design and colors on this board (i know some think its ugly though). I got an Open Box board from NewEgg and the ONLY difference was that the supplied manual that came with the board is in Chinese - no beg deal! Downloaded a manual to my desktop... and I haven't checked, but I could probably order a new paper manual from ASUS if I wanted to. Anyhow, I saved money by going open box and got a good deal, so i'm happy! Board installed with no probs, updated the BIOS with ASUS Update software... all is well. :)
Cons: The second PCIe 2.0 port causes both to run at 8x when linked. The first PCIe 1.0 port becomes unusable after u install a big honkin' vid card. Let's vote to increase the ATX form factor standard by an inch or so! haha
Overall Review: High speed memory installed on this board automatically sets to 1333Mhz. You'll need to manually adjust your memory timings if you are running 1600Mhz... and you'll have to overclock the bus or something if you want to get to 1800 (i don't recommend it). No parallel printer port - so i'm forced to buy an adapter to USB for my old, trusty HP Deskjet 712c... psych, j/k!! I'm giving that old thing to my sister and upgrading my printer to an Officejet. ;D
What a difference!
Pros: Fantastic! I copied all my existing data to this drive and it booted right up.... much quieter and faster than before! I also purchased a SATA DVD Burner with this and am now enjoying faster gameplay and audio/video processing. WD Rocks!
Cons: none so far
Fantastic!
Pros: I downloaded this software. Installed it. Copied my entire C: drive to a brand new 300GB SATA drive. It was easy to do and worked like a charm!
Cons: none so far
