WD AV-GP WD20EURS

Western Digital AV-GP WD20EURS 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital AV-GP WD20EURS 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: -High Capacity -Low Power Consumption -Quiet (Although in a server room you really can't tell ;-) ) -Large cache -No problems in mirrored RAID setups (1 and 1+0)

Cons: Had one that failed after 1 month of operation. With the quantity of these that we ordered, I was expecting to have at least a couple bad apples. But only one? I'll take that any day. NewEgg as usual replaced the drive quickly and soon we were back at 100%.

Overall Review: We ordered a large lot of these to replace aging low-capacity RAID 5 setup in some of our Surveillance DVR's. At this capacity and price, I was able to twin these together in a Raid 1 setup and have had no problems running them 24/7 for the past 6 months. I know the Green Series thru WD is usually not recommended in RAID setups but I have personally not encountered an issue in doing so. We have 16 of the 1TB version in one of our file-servers in RAID 1+0 that has been running non-stop for the past 2 years without issue. I will definitely be buying more of these series if needed.

Great Simple PC

Foxconn RM10-D2 Intel NM10 Barebone
Foxconn RM10-D2 Intel NM10 Barebone

Pros: Dirt cheap!! Ssmall, lightweight, good looking case, easy on the power bill. Works great for a Ubuntu business center PC. Did I mention dirt cheap? How else can you get a case, mobo, power supply, and processor for $90?

Cons: Took me awhile to figure out how the 3.5" HDD was supposed to be mounted. I thought at first I could use the external 3.5" bay...Nope. Just not long enough for a standard size 3.5" HDD. In case you have troubles too, here's how you do it: After you open the case, you must take off the front plastic then remove the external bay trays. Then you will notice a tab at the bottom. The drive will slide in upside down underneath the tab where you can secure it with a screw into the bottom of the drive. Additionally, there is another hole through the front of the case where you can screw into the normal side mounting holes of the hard drive.

Overall Review: I purchased 4 of these for a hotel business center. Loaded Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and they've been running great for about 2 weeks now. They are no speed demons, but they are much better than the old Pentium 4 workstations they replaced. The $182 setup: Foxcon RM10-D2 Intel Atom D510 Dual-core Intel NM10 Intel GMA 3150 Barebone (N82E16856119071) G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-5300PHU2-2GBNT (N82E16820231108) Western Digital Caviar Blue WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (N82E16822136075)

Simply works

StarTech.com VGA over CAT 5 Remote Receiver ST121R for Video Extender
StarTech.com VGA over CAT 5 Remote Receiver ST121R for Video Extender

Pros: -Solid/Durable build quality -Compatible with a wide range StarTech Transmitters and Repeaters -Built-in VGA splitter! -Video quality is just as good as the NTI extenders we are also using at 1/5th the cost! -Can plug another extender/transmitter into a VGA port without the video ghosting effect commonly seen with passive VGA splitters.

Cons: Have had 2 of these die on me in the past 2 years. Now, these two deaths I can trace to brownouts that we had in our area so I can't really blame the extender. However, I run a mixed environment where about half of our displays are using a similar product from NTI and I haven't lost a single one of those...

Overall Review: I'm currently using about 10 of these in a 24/7 environment running promotional content on commercial displays. All displays are running content at 1024x768 resolution at distances up to 300 ft over Cat5E cabling. No issues with display quality at all even at the longer distances. I cannot attest to higher resolutions at this distance however.
