THE LAST UPGRADE FOR ME

XFX PVT73AUDE3 GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card
XFX PVT73AUDE3 GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card

Pros: Got this card to extend the life of a socket 939 agp board, replaced a XFX Gforce 7600GS with 512 mb memory, all though the old card performed rather good it does not compare to the XFX Gforce 7600GT extreme! almost double the frame rates in 3D Mark 03, have not had a chance to see how it stacks up in 3D Mark 05 or 06 but assume it should do OK. Seeing how AGP is a dying standard and PCI-E is by far a better choice, this card will give me a year to get the funding and specs together for my next build sometimne in 08

Cons: None

Overall Review: I am not a hardcore gamer but do some rather intense gaming and this card will get the job done nicely.

Most Critical Review

Not Bad

DIAMOND TVW600PCI ATI TV Wonder HD 600
DIAMOND TVW600PCI ATI TV Wonder HD 600

Pros: Once configured properly, gives a nice crisp picture & very crisp sound on a Samsung 22" flat panel moniter & with an X-Fi titanium sound card. Using Vista 64 bit drivers on Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Replaced a dated ATI TV-Wonder Pro PCI - no 64 bit drivers for old card.

Cons: Very tricky to configure, supplied drivers were junk, went to ATI's site and downloaded their latest drivers and had still more issues with it. Decided to try Diamonds site for an updated driver and low and behold their Vista 64 bit driver worked fine. Unit does not come with ATI's media center which it appears is not available for download. Which sucks. Seems like you have to own an ATI graphics card also to get it for free. Am using Windows Media Center and it does perform OK with this card.

Overall Review: All in all this tuner card is pretty good. I had to configure the picture quality thru Nvidia's control panel, which works real good but is a bit of a hastle when you want to make an adjustament, you have to open Nvidia control panel and move it so you can see your picture while you make adjustments.

ASUS ROG CROSSBLADE RANGER FM2+ AMD A88X (Bolton D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard

Pros: Asus, ROG certified, the best FM2+ Mb out there. All the best features of the ROG series, This board just does everything you could ask for in a FM2+ platform. Runs A10-7850K like a dream. overclocks easily. Dual graphics for the person that needs more graphics power than the A10-7850K can deliver on it's own. Great for HTPC & light gaming.

Cons: None

Overall Review: I have been real interested in the APU line for awhile now so I was in the market to build a new HTPC, thought I would give it a go. No mistake, performs actually beyond my expectations. I did go a little overboard on this build a little bit and put together quite a rig. My system specs are as follows. Crossblade Ranger A10- 7850K APU @ 4.3Ghz - can go higher easily Dual graphics with MSI R7 250 - the R7 250 is the primary output, better performance than when the APU was the primary output. 8 gigs AMD R9 gaming memory 2400Mhz Corsair CX 600 watt power supply Themaltake Water Pro 3 Intel 120Gb. SSD drive - boot WB 1Tb. storage Asus DB/DVD combo drive Thermaltake Commander G41 case For those interested in how it would fare in gaming, here are my 3Dmark P scores 3Dmark 06 - 19700 3Dmark Vantage - 16700 3Dmark11 - 4900 3dmark13 Sky Diver - 12360 3Dmark13 Fire Strike - 2900

Good Ram - Rock solid stable

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL8D-4GBHK
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL8D-4GBHK

Pros: This is top quality memory, blazing fast, I have 8 gigs of this running on a Gigabyte AM3 motherboard with an AMD PII X4 955be (stepping C2 by the way) Oc'd to 3.6Ghz (4 sticks of 2 gb running @ 1333mhz @ EPP timings and no voltage increase at all except a little bump on the northbridge & HT bus as a precaution to the overclocking) - no temp issues at all. 36c idle, 52c full bore stress for over 2 hours on stock air cooling.

Cons: None what so ever.

Overall Review: I know that not everyone will see these results with a C2 stepping Phenom II as it is a known issue that the early Phenoms had memory controller issues with more than one stick per channel running @ 1333Mhz but with good quality components and a little know how you can get to this speed without any stability issues.

Thermaltake Toughpower XT W0229RU 750W ATX12V V2.3 80PLUS BRONZE ATI CrossFireX Certified AMD GAME READY FanDelayCool Modular Power Supply

Pros: Thermaltake, 750 watts, single 12V 60 amp rail, modular cables, heavy duty construction. I have used many in the past and is my power supply of choice. Been using them for years with out any problems until now.

Cons: Hard failure shut down within 90 minutes of power up during operating system install. Had to resort to removing exsisting Thermaltake power supply out of my other system to get new system up and going. Not a good thing. Very bummed. - RMA time. UGH

Overall Review: As I stated in the Pro's, I have been using Thermaltake power supplys for years with out failure. Guess there is first time for everything. Hope the replacement has no issues. I will review again after the replacement supply comes and I have it running for a while.

More than I expected

PC CHIPS M848A (V5.0) 462(A) SiS 746FX ATX AMD Motherboard
PC CHIPS M848A (V5.0) 462(A) SiS 746FX ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Needed a socket "A" board to salvage my wife's machine, dying motherboard. As many have said, not much around these days in the new condition. Read many reviews on this board and was rather hesitent to buy this one. Messed around for a while trying to come up with one that would fill my needs. Nadda - went for this one and lol and behold it is great! so far, dropeed my XP2800+ in and moved all other components from the old machine and she just flew. Cleared CMOS jumper and entered BIOS and set FSB to 167 and no bumbs what so ever. Many other reviewers discribed all kinds of issues with BIOS setting and such. The Bios is a bit limitted but it does have what you need to set it up. Decided to fool with it a bit and it clocked up to XP3200+ like nothing and is rock solid stable and runs very cool. About 5-7 deg. C less than on the old board and it is in the same case and has the same CPU cooler. Went for it a bit more and dropped a Gforce 7300gt on it and it really screamers for what it is

Cons: Well, none really does what it is supposed to do and will buy me a year or so until I build a new machine for myself and I give my DuelCore to her.
