3 out of 4 came good.
Pros: Lots of cache. Cheap price...Free Shipping (when I ordered). Bought 4 of these to throw into a 5-in-3 hot swap SATA Back Plane for my new home server running Solaris 10 with ZFS for the storage array.
Cons: 1 drive out of the 4 I ordered was DOA. RMA in process, but sucks to have to pay shipping to RMA a drive that came with free shipping.
Overall Review: I'm normally a Seagate fan due to their 5 year warranty. Like Western Digital, these Hitachi's come with a 3 yr. warranty. I went with these because the price point was better than the 250GB / 8MB cache models from the afore mentioned competitors.
Twice received dead boards
Pros: In theory... great for a low power NAS solution.
Cons: Ordered first board, received it connected it, powered it on, and all I got were the CPU fan, 2 case fans and my drives spinning. No video, no lights on my keyboard. RMA'd. Received a new one. Same Deal. :( Going to send back for refund.
Vista 64 OK
Pros: Bought this to jump my Vista 64 desktop from an ATX factor to a uATX factor. Was running w/ a Foxconn board w/ nVidia 590 chipset. Switched to this Biostar with just a few driver reloads. Vista took it like a champ.
Cons: Upgraded the BIOS to the latest, seems flaky. Vista doesn't like to come out of hibernate w/o a BSOD. BIOS sometimes will detect my Seagate 320GB drive but will not boot it, Power Cycle seems to resolve, but reset will not.
Overall Review: Was impressed that Vista handled the chipset changes w/o needing a re-install. Overall, am hoping to work out the kinks mentioned above. Loving the uATX form to save space on my cluttered desk.
Meets Expectations
Pros: So far so good. The board functions well, I'm running 64bit Vista Home Premium with an AMD 64 X2 6000+. Nice large poster displaying connections on the board.
Cons: Stock BIOS seems to not recognize my CPU. Looking for Vista Safe procedure to update BIOS on system w/ no floppy drive. Seems as though several connections mentioned in the manual and highlighted on the poster are not present.
Overall Review: I'm not an overclocker, I'm mostly a value buyer for my home systems. This board came with effectively a 50% mail-in rebate and that's why I bought it. So far performance has been excellent.
