Excellent so far

SAMSUNG 830 Series 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7PC256B/WW
SAMSUNG 830 Series 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7PC256B/WW

Pros: This is my first SSD. I've been waiting on price to come down and bugs to be worked out. The price for the one day sale on this one along with its rating led me to purchase. Though I had to study up and learn a few things about SSDs vs HDs it was worth it for the speed increase.

Cons: For me the only con was putting in the time to learn how to switch to SSD without a clean Windows install.

Overall Review: If you are new to SSDs like me take the time to read up on them. You need to know things like alignment if you are going to clone and not install Win 7 or newer from scratch. I used EASUS and GParted to clone and align the drive. Also, optimize your source drive before you clone.

EVGA Z170 FTW 140-SS-E177-KR LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Looks well made. Plenty of fan headers. Layout is good. The various LEDs are a nice touch but I'd rather have more USB headers. Love the idea of a removable Bios chip though I don't know if it will ever benefit me. It is very easy to get in touch with tech support 24/7 most of the year. The two I talked to were very easy to talk with and were patient while I tried different options. I went with 3 eggs because the support is good. However, they don't always have the answer to the problem at hand. With experience I'm sure that will change.

Cons: Cover for the I/O panel will not fit with a video card in PCIe slot one. Took hours of trying Bios settings and looking at internet solutions and two calls to tech support to try to get the Bios to recognize the Samsung 950 pro. I even flashed the Bios to the latest version. Eventually, somehow, I hit the right combo of legacy, UEFI, and other settings correctly. Then there is of course as others bring up there are not enough USB headers. I wouldn't care if it had all USB 3.0s if there were enough of them. But only one with no 2.0s? At least if it had 3 USB 3.0s i could use a 3.0 to 2.0 adapter cable. As it is I had to order a PCIe add in card with two internal USB 3.0 headers and buy the adapter cable to 2.0 to get all the front case panel USBs working. It has several annoying beeps at first start. I thought they were errors but tech support says it is normal and it does run normally once I got it to recognize the 950 Pro. What happened to the single beep we are used to? Needs a better Bios to recognize NVMe drives in the on-board M.2 slot. One USB 3.0 headers is just a major cut on a board that would otherwise be very good.

Overall Review: At this point if you want an EVGa motherboard buy the Classified version. Keep in mind it only has 2 USB 3.0 connectors. If I could do it over I would have gotten an Asus board. If the issues I named are fixed this would be a great board. It is running stable right now. I know EVGA reads these posts. I do believe they will get the issues resolved on the next version.

I like the previous version's operation better

Bitdefender Total Security 2022 - 5 Devices / 1 Year - Download
Bitdefender Total Security 2022 - 5 Devices / 1 Year - Download

Pros: It still works as good as it ever did at stopping malicious websites. It claims it doesn't work with Malwarebytes but it works fine so far.

Cons: Pop ups that want me to turn on VPN. It didn't pop up as much on the previous version. Don't call me, I'll call you if I want it. Scan dialog box pops up at random times. The scanning is fine but I prefer it stay in the background like it used to. Unless there is a problem I don't need to know about the scans.

Overall Review: I look every year for who has the best internet security suite. So far it has been Bitdefender from my research. It works well and doesn't bog my computer down. The only lag is in startup from cold boot. And that is only about 10 seconds slower than the previous version so not a huge problem. It's running on an i3 7350K with a Samsung 512gb 950 Pro NVMe drive and 16gb of ram.

Works

Intel Core i3-7350K - Core i3 7th Gen Kaby Lake Dual-Core 4.2 GHz LGA 1151 60W Intel HD Graphics 630 Desktop Processor - BX80677I37350K
Intel Core i3-7350K - Core i3 7th Gen Kaby Lake Dual-Core 4.2 GHz LGA 1151 60W Intel HD Graphics 630 Desktop Processor - BX80677I37350K

Pros: I generally only purchase new items but thought I'd take a chance on this factory refurbished i3 7350K. It does not come with a cooler and I don't yet have an aftermarket one. I am using the stock one from my old i3 6320. It cannot handle this processor overclocked. So currently I'm running this 7350K unit at 4.3ghz. Of course that's better than the old 6320 running at 3.9ghz. I'm hoping to get 4.5ghz or more out of this K series processor as soon as I get an aftermarket CPU cooler. Update: I put a Thermaltake Frio Silent 14 on and was able to reliably overclock to 4.6ghz and stay under 60 degrees C.

Cons: It runs hot overclocked very quickly with the stock Intel 6320 box cooler I have. Could not go over 4.3ghz. It is a must to have a good aftermarket CPU cooler. Update: I ended up putting a Thermaltake Frio Silent 14 on and that is all it needed to stay cool at 4.6ghz. Spend the little extra and just get an i5 7600K if you have a Z170 based board.

Overall Review: If I did it over I'd probably buy an i5 7600K. But I like to try different things and thought I'd give this a try. Running it on an old Gigabyte Z170 board with updated bios. I'm not a gamer so my system is already overkill for what I do. It's just a hobby to see what I can get various components to do. This Covid-19 has me stuck at home bored and trying more stuff. AS per userbenchmark I've been able to speed my machine up about 15% by bios upgrade which finally let the XMP profile for my memory work and this i3 7350K processor install. Not bad. An aftermarket cooler let me get it reliably up to 4.6ghz and stay 60 C at 100% processor usage while running user benchmark.

Great upgrade from a 10 y/o system

MSI PERFORMANCE GAMING X470 GAMING PLUS AM4 AMD X470 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: My mother's computer: Came from an old Opteron 2.2ghz on a 939 socket with 4 gigabytes of DDR2. This MB with the Ryzen 5 2600 was a huge speed increase. PC is only used for net surfing and other odds and ends computer stuff. Noting heavy. The old system was really slow and finally wouldn't boot one day. That was my perfect excuse to get her to upgrade. This Motherboard, a Ryzen 5 2600 and 16gb of Corsair Vengeance made for a tremendous speed increase. I had already talked her into putting a SATA SSD boot drive in months ago. This board will hold an NVMe drive but I was pushing my luck in spending her money. She is delighted with the speed she has now. At 81 she still loves to use her computer.

Cons: None in this case. Well Microsoft is a con. Had to purchase a new license because of the hardware change.

Overall Review: There were good choices in this case. For myself I'd probably go with a newer X570 MB and a Ryzen 5 3600.

Works perfectly

Pros: Worked on a Ryzen 5 2600 and an X470 MB right out of the package with XMP enabled.

Cons: None

Overall Review: I'd buy again.

Better than expected

I was not expecting an patio umbrella this well built for the price I paid. This is also the first triple canopy umbrella I've seen in person.

Good simple graphics card

I used this video card in my mother's computer upgrade. Benchmarking it doesn't look all that great but I expected that. It's a good improvement over the onboard graphics her old motherboard had. It surfs the internet just fine and plays videos just fine. The only games she plays are 2D such as Mahjong. She is happy with it so I am happy with it.
