Real Cool

Pros: Wanted to upgrade my old P4 system so ordered a Gigabyte MC61P-S3 motherboard, two 1Qb sticks of Kingston 800 RAM and an AMD 4000 CPU(of course from Newegg.) Picked the 65nm processor since it generates less heat and should run cooler. When I fired up the system it gave the usual beep but then a long tone which didn't quit. Shut down the system and checked everything. Seeing no problems booted again and let it sound. After about 30 Secs the tone stopped and it booted just fine. Wow! Finally after some experimenting I noticed that the tone stopped when the CPU Fan ran. Since the CPU ran so cool the CPU temperature control had adjusted the fan speed to zero. At this point the Fan RPM monitor detected the zero as a fan failure and howled. Turned off the CPU Fan alarm in the BIOS Setup and all was well. This was all with the stock cooler which since the fan is turning so slow or not at all runs real quiet.
Cons: none so far
