Excellent Sound Card

ASUS Xonar DG 5.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
ASUS Xonar DG 5.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card

Pros: Same incredible sound as the D1 and D2 cards (no noticeable difference). Excellent W764 drivers and audio interface. Built-in headphone amp. HD audio connector for front panel mic and headphone ports. EQ and EAX effects applied to input signal with absolutely no interference (great for plugging in game consoles or other devices). Amazing clarity at high volumes. Perfect for music, movies and games.

Cons: None to speak of.

Overall Review: In my quest for the ideal sound card, I've used Creative, Turtle Beach, HT Omega, Diamond Xtreme 7.1, and Auzentech (all sold here), but I kept coming back to the Xonar. My only beef about the D1 and D2 cards I owned was the horrible popping and crackling interference when using the line-in port. I have the audio from my 360, PS3, and Roland drum kit running into my sound cards, so this was important. Absolutely no interference with the DG's line-in. As stated above, EQ and EAX effects also apply to the line-in signal; a feature very few cards out there have. Most just allow audio pass-through. So I'm pretty psyched about the DG. I just can't believe what appears to be a stripped down version totally holds its own against the more expensive Xonar cards, or any of the others I've mentioned for that matter. For a 2.1 or 5.1 setup, there's little reason to go any other route. I'm not an audiophile; more like an audio aficionado. And I highly recommend the Xonar DG.

Most Critical Review

Great, but not without its issues . . .

ASUS Xonar D1 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
ASUS Xonar D1 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card

Pros: I really can't say enough great things about this card. However, I wish I could leave the cons section blank. Anyway, PC games and music both sound incredible. Amazing clarity that overpowers any of the Creative cards I've owned. Software is intuitive and easy to manipulate with an attractive UI. Easy to recommend for W7 64-bit users.

Cons: I find it tough to believe that more people have not experienced this next issue. I've scoured the next and no one seems to be having this problem. I have the audio from my Xbox 360 running through the line-in port. Great functionality, but there are frequent pops and crackling noises that are very evident. Thinking that the card was faulty, I returned it and received a second one with the same issues. I've messed with all settings and tried out the different sampling rates, and the noises persist. Even tried out different cables. ASUS' forums are useless with post replies that only trickle in maybe once every two or three weeks. My inability to correct this issue costs the unit two stars, but I still won't call it a deal breaker since I play more PC games than I do on my console. Still, it's fairly unpleasant to experience this.

Overall Review: I believe I've covered everything.

Quality 27 Incher

Acer H274HLBMID Black 27" Full HD HDMI LED BackLight LCD Monitor w/Speakers 300 cd/m2 100,000,000:1 Max (ACM)
Acer H274HLBMID Black 27" Full HD HDMI LED BackLight LCD Monitor w/Speakers 300 cd/m2 100,000,000:1 Max (ACM)

Pros: Extremely happy with this display. Was able to achieve the rich and natural image quality one expects from a good monitor with very little tweaking and calibration. No defective pixels or frustrating back light bleed. This will be the third display from Acer and I'm happy to say that the excellent quality has remained consistent. Very comfortable viewing while both gaming and designing ads in Photoshop. It's aesthetically beautiful while mounted as well. Auto-input selection is a plus and navigating the menu system is a snap thanks to the responsive touch sensitive panel on the front. My gaming rig, Xbox 360 and PS3 are all connected and look stunning. Gaming on all fronts is very satisfying. This of one of three 27" monitors I purchased at the same time; the other two being Samsung and ASUS brands. I thought for sure the Samsung would be the pick of the litter based on reviews but I was proven wrong. This Acer was indeed the standout.

Cons: Would like to have seen a trade-off of the VGA input for a second HDMI port, but the addition of an auto-switch HDMI hub hardly makes this a con.

Overall Review: For such a great product, Acer has absolutely no details about this specific monitor on their site. Same goes for several of their latest. You know it's time to wake up the webmaster when retailers have more complete product info than the manufacturer. Acer, I guarantee you there's a 17 year old new hire at your organization who can do wonders for your website. Check around.
