Great little aging mobo, but be careful of those sata ports

BIOSTAR G31-M7G DVI LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
BIOSTAR G31-M7G DVI LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Cheap Ultra compact!!! DVI and D-sub ports on back, HDA ports on back and headers on mobo runs pretty cool lots of options in Bios runs newest C2D procs and recognizes memory without hitch(almost...) Sata cable with locking latch on it comes with it Installed windows 7 on it without having to do anything else but install drivers for 8800 ultra video card Running with: Intel Core2Duo E7400 @3.1 GHZ EVGA 8800 Ultra 768 Seagate 750 GB Sata Drive Hauppauge WinTV HDTV Card 4 GB Corsair DDR2 PC2 8500 Samsung 22x DVD Burner Raidmax 2RX-630SS 630 Watt (Semi)modular PS

Cons: DDR2 1066 Memory does not get recognized as anything else but 800 MHZ 2 sata ports are entirely/partially blocked by video card southbridge Heatsink is obstructed of all air flow by video card and sata cables Doesn't have Firewire onboard Bios options have no helpful info regarding their respectful uses or settings cannot completely disable onboard video, which reserves physical memory regardless of your wishes does not come with any cables beside a sata/pata cable driver disc is ancient and doesn't work correctly in windows vista/7

Overall Review: Ok first off... I bought this for a HTPC. That being said, I wanted something that was going to have good sound, have a gigabit lan port on it, plenty of usb ports, and be able to accommodate my 8800 ultra(for games of course), and not draw a ton of power(yes I know 8800 ultra?!?) I opened the box and was pleasantly surprised at how well it appeared this was laid out. After dropping my C2D E7400 and 4 gigs of corsair memory in, I plugged my p/s in along with my flash hard drive and my samsung lcd to it, it booted right up without any setup in bios. I did notice upon bootup that it recognized the processor correctly but was reading my 1066 memory as 800 and also showing only 3.8 gigs of available memory.... Interesting. I went into bios and the only options for memory are your timings and voltage... teh suck! though I can change the FSB of the processor, this would alter the processor and I am not interested in making it draw more power. All in all, a great mobo oth

1st One Took HD out, Waiting to see if 2nd one will regain my trust...

RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch
RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Power Supply, New Version with Build-in LED Fan On/Off Switch

Pros: First week was awesome, the 130mm fan was quiet and kept the psu and processor cool, rails were enough for a Geforce 8800 Ultra without breaking a sweat, wattage at wall was close to 350 watts and total wattage of components was about 400, so not bad on eff%. tons of connectors Blue light on fan was not that bad, and added a nice nuance to it.

Cons: Died after a week, and took hard drive with it, maybe video card also, can't test video card since don't have psu with enough wattage to test. "modular" cables are rediculously long and have way too many connectors on each branch. not truly modular, in that it has 5 cables about 4 inches long protruding out of the psu and these are pretty stiff, along with a dedicated red 6 pin pcie video card cable that has to be connected to another cable that has two 6 pin pcie connectors in a jumper configuration. Voltages are kinda off across the board(12v rail @11.78, 5v @4.92, 3.3 @ 3.38) even with only one hd and no dvdrom, and one 80mm antec fan.

Overall Review: I am awaiting the rma'd psu's arrival today. If it goes in and works and my video card is alright, I may justify keeping it. I cannot believe that I have been taken and without a warning got burned. The Hard drive was a 750 Seagate, and had been working great without a hitch, and in fact was a backup harddrive that I was using in an ext enclosure. I used it to test a new rigs setup and now have lost all the data on it. I have left a message with Raidmax and have yet to receive a response. I paid for the adv replacement from seagate in hopes of being actually able to use this rig. It really sucks that you can pay so much on all components and one part that you EXPECT to be good, is the one thing that can totally bring you down. My advice? Spend an extra 25 bucks and get a 750 ocz silent or coolermaster, even with MIR this is not worth it. Kudos to NewEgg for coming through, even though it was not their fault, I got a discount and a free hat for my troubles. Go Newegg!!!

Probably would have been great

Seagate BarraCuda LP ST31500541AS 1.5TB 5900 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive
Seagate BarraCuda LP ST31500541AS 1.5TB 5900 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Large size, Cheap price, Came from Newegg, Low power draw, low noise

Cons: DOA, I got drive which was left on door step, opened, it was bare drive in antistatic bag, and drive was freezing. Sat next to heater to warm up, once was warm enough, went to connect to external usb enclosure, and notice plastic back plate that houses the sata connectors has a piece of plastic falling off, AKA BROKEN. Oh great. I connected anyway turned it on, and low and behold "Click click grnnnngt, click click grnnnngt"(close as possible to sound emenating from drive) Removed check that everything was ok(which it was not) notice that it appears to have been dropped on its back, since the whole rear is pressed in like a sandwich and while the connectors were all intact, the internals were now toast. Wrapped it back up and sent it packing, Newegg refunded. The 1 star is lowest possible for Seagate not for Newegg, as I am guessing this came from OE like this, as the bag was cut in that same spot also, and it was sealed.

Overall Review: I have had great luck with Seagate and this is only my second bad experience with them, but I will probably give them a second chance if this deal comes around again on a better quality drive. At first I thought, this was too good to be true... 1.5 TB for 80 bucks? AND Free S&H? well alas, it was. Newegg Customer Support is top notch and although this is my second problem with a seagate, I still have 4 others that have provided nearly invincible and consistent performance and reliability. Newegg never ceases to amaze me with their deals, free S&H and excellent customer support. Take heed brothers and sisters, this drive will prob give you good reliability, provided it hasn't been dropped beforehand! Good luck
