Good RAM
Pros: Works just fine. The price ain't bad for it (at least at time of purchase), and it is 100% stable. The heat spreaders also look pretty cool in my opinion.
Cons: Can't think of any.
Overall Review: Bear in mind that if you are using Core i7 you may not be able to run at the advertised speed. If you have a 920 or 940 processor, the memory multiplier is set and your motherboard's BIOS settings may not be able to adjust for that (mine cannot. With my i7 over clocked at 3.57GHz it is only running at 1360MHz or so), so you may not want to go for this, and might instead just get 1333MHz or 1066MHz memory instead, depending on how far you want to overclock (if at all... at stock it's at 1066MHz or so). Just wanted to throw that out there in case anyone didn't know!
Doesn't seem very reliable...
Pros: Very fast read speeds, makes doing most things very snappy
Cons: Recently Linux has been getting kernel panics a lot, through 3 different updates now (so I'm fairly certain it's not a program-related issue), and dmesg is routinely filled up with drive errors indicative of either cable, drive, or controller failure. Not experiencing issues with another hard drive in the same port, so I'm assuming the SSD is starting to go kaput. Been quite a while since I purchased so Newegg's return policy doesn't apply, and I can't really wait to send it in and receive a replacement.
Overall Review: Should have waited and read more reviews. When it's working it's great, but the reliability issues are worrying me.
Frequent disconnects
Pros: Very high capacity for as thin as it is. Sleek. Quiet.
Cons: The drive disconnects very frequently. When I get back to my computer, I see an insane amount of notifications complaining about how I failed to unmount the drive properly. This makes me very wary of using it as a backup drive because it might be difficult to get large files off if I am afraid of it disconnecting itself all the time.
Overall Review: I wanted to like this drive, but it appears it has some issues. I will likely try to get a warranty replacement. Be wary of this drive if you are going to use it for something semi-critical.
It's okay. Not great but definitely not bad
Pros: The cameras are awesome. The setup was very easy. Included everything I needed for my installation except for a hard drive. I decided to snip the cables and wire them through the walls and use a patch panel to clean it up. Using PoE is definitely a plus and I cannot see myself going back to analog after this.
Cons: The NVR itself isn't very great. I have been completely unable to access it over the network. I suspect it only works on older versions of Internet Explorer (which I no longer have access to). Cannot get the suggested mobile app to work or a few other third party apps, either. Not a huge deal for me, but I was pretty disappointed about it. The mounts for the camera are a little difficult to get just right, but this is a minor issue. Cable is obviously very cheap and not very good quality, but I've had no issues with data loss or poor signal.
Overall Review: If this device wasn't shipped from China I MIGHT have shipped it back. The seller was up front about it not coming with a hard drive and asked if that was an issue, which was nice. The product shipped very quickly from the seller. Overall, definitely not happy about not being able to access the NVR over the network because that means I have to keep it in my entertainment center so I can view the footage on it. I was hoping to hide it away somewhere, but then I wouldn't be able to view it. Camera quality is really nice though. I'm glad I got a PoE system, but make sure you don't need the network access first, because it might not work.
Excellent SSD
Pros: Very stable, no issues so far, and very fast.
Cons: Can't think of any. It's not the fastest ever, but fast enough for me (and I've been getting close to the same numbers Intel advertises).
Overall Review: Very good SSD. This allows me to have a very fast SATA 3 card in my mSATA port so I can have a terabyte HDD in the SATA slot in my laptop. This way I can experience the best of both worlds (very fast drive for my OS and plenty of storage for everything else)
Awesome purchase, even with Bulldozer "coming soon"
Pros: This processor is very fast. It stays cool. It's cheap. It can multi-task like a champion. This makes it a perfect processor for my needs.
Cons: I really can't think of any. It's not as fast as the i7s, of course, but then it runs a lot cheaper. See other thoughts.
Overall Review: I owned an i7 920 C0. I got it to overclock to 4.0GHz on water. It was very fast, but honestly I can't tell a difference in everyday use compared to this at 3.35GHz. Is it able to crunch numbers as fast? No. But do I notice? No. If you're unsure, go ahead and buy it, unless you want to wait for Bulldozer, which should be arriving Summer 2011. I am personally very glad I bought it.
