Great find

Nippon Labs USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA HDD Adapter w/ Power Model USB-SATA
Nippon Labs USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA HDD Adapter w/ Power Model USB-SATA

Pros: I was original to go with an enclosure style hard drive caddy, however after reading bad reviews for almost every enclosure on the egg I went with this, I'm glad I did, It works first time out of the box Used to clone a 18GB laptop hard drive to a new 500GB desktop drive. Small, light weight, portable, Works well...

Cons: Only one con the power supply SATA plug is shaky...

Overall Review: It works , I use it with SATA 2 devices and IDE. 2.5" & 3.5" IDE & SATA in one device

SanDisk Ultra 2.5" 120GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDH-120G-G25
SanDisk Ultra 2.5" 120GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDH-120G-G25

Pros: Lasted this long

Cons: Took all my data with it. SSD's even from trusted names are unreliable. make a scheduled backup system and prepare to RMA. SSD will fail.

Well engineered storage device, A+

Mediasonic HF2-SU2S2 3.5" Black SATA I/II USB 2.0 & eSATA Pro Box 4 Bay Enclosure
Mediasonic HF2-SU2S2 3.5" Black SATA I/II USB 2.0 & eSATA Pro Box 4 Bay Enclosure

Pros: The title really says it all, this storage device impressed me the moment I removed it from the box. It has a small foot print, about as wide as a loaf of bread and as long as a dollar bill, it's solidly constructed with a metal housing and bays, and the added features it carries such as the intelligent power on/down, auto quiet fan, and quick changeable interface makes this box a real winner. I'm connecting the unit to a notebook for added storage and conducted extensive research before buying this particular item, see comments below for analysis. Before buying I looked at building a home sever, purchasing a hardware-raid enclosure, and other examined other 4/5 bay enclosures. For the price, energy savings, desktop space savings, and robust features - for my needs it can't be beat! Note: The supplied Esata cable is ruffly 3ft a longer cable may be require for different installations. Over all I'm very happy with the purchase, and the price/quality/- Newegg has a real winner!

Cons: Really no cons to think of for the price point I expected a plastic case with silkscreen writing, to my surprise it's full metal with the exception of the door which comes apart easily to populate the drive bays. As a side note the added usb port allows me to connect the device to a wireless router and share files through the air when I'm disconnected from the esata. My Notebook Specs to help other users: HP-DV6T-1100 / Intel GM4500 Chipset / ICH9-M / HP's InsideH2O Bios- AHCI enabled, Express Card 54/34 slot electrically connected via- PCI-e 1.0 lane / Rosewill RC605 expresscard 2 esata- II / Productivity Software: Lightroom 3, Photoshop, Premiere, & After Effects CS5 If using this for a notebook ensure your express card slot is PCI-e connective vs. USB connective to the motherboard to gain proper transfer speeds and function from device, see below.

Overall Review: I purchased this for a notebook as a first step to safely backup/store photos, videos, & docs in a redundant home solution. I currently have 2-Samsung 1TB in a Mirrored configuration and 2 Hitachi 80GB in a striped array for video playback/editing. Lesson I've learn in the process of buying, Most Notebooks with an esata port, like mine, don't support Port Multiplying and require an expresscard esata controller to access all the drives, - I considered the model with /w faster USB 3.0 b/c a new exp-card device would be required, however Windows 7 Ultimate & Premium do NOT support Dynamic Disks ie. Raid- 1, 0,10 over USB 2 or 3, so a USB.3 unit will be a JBOD unit over any USB port -save the extra money for the exp-card. With Win 7 Ult & Prem +Intel ICH, spanning, mirror, and striping are capable with this Unit over entire HD's or over partitions of 2 or more HD's - ie 2-1TB drives can run a fast Raid 0 - and a safe Raid 1 over separate partitions-like LaCie- for anyone on a tight budget.
