Window 7 64-bit Compatibility

Pros: Works fine under Win7 64-bit with v1.0.0.10 drivers downloaded directly from the chipset maker. Go to moschip.com and search for dirvers for the MCS9901 chipset. Get the WHQL certified Windows driver set.
Cons: Will not work under Windows 7 64-bit with supplied drivers (or the drivers downloaded from Syba) due to driver signing enforcement under 64-bit Windows 7.
Overall Review: Cheap, works fine to add an old-fashioned serial port to new "no-legacy-port" motherboards.
Ballistix - Terrible Reliability

Pros: Nice fast memory with a -very- limited lifetime.
Cons: I'm a sysadmin at a state university and I've been buying various Crucial memory for years with no problems. These Ballistix DDR are junk with a 6-8 month time-to-failure even if run at rated speeds and voltages (NO overclocking). We bought them because of excellent CAS latency and not because we intended to overclock.
Overall Review: I had one stick of two different matched pairs of memory fail within a week of each other. I RMAed all four sticks to Crucial and got 4 new sticks back in about a week. Running Memtest86 on these replacement sticks, I found that one of the -new- sticks had a stuck bit. I re-RMAed that stick. When I complained (strongly) to the Crucial tech about them sending me a bad RMA replacement, he berated me for buying "high-performance" memory and told me that they "don't design their high-performance memory for stability and longevity" and that I should have just bought plain old Crucial DDR and not Ballistix. You gotta be kidding me... I've got this memory in quite a few boxes here -- I'm planning to pull it and replace it with another brand before it fails. Crucial needs to step-up and recall and replace this expensive memory with DDR that lasts more than six blooming months.
Nice!

Pros: This machine is very clean for a "refurb" (and I've purchased a few "horror story" refurb laptops over the years). If I didn't know better, I'd think that it was brand new. It works perfectly and I have not found any issues at all with it. It came with what appears to be a new battery and I got a little over three hours of run time on a run-down test. Nice little laptop!
Cons: None, really. It's a little bit slow and could benefit from swapping in an SSD drive. I thought that I had a wireless problem as I couldn't enable the wireless card (Fn-F5). At first, I couldn't find the usual Lenovo hardware wireless card switch. It turns out that it's a tiny little switch on the right side of the laptop, roughly in the middle, next to the SD card slot. Flipped it on and all is well.
Overall Review: I just bought two more of these for spare machines. Hope that these are as clean. Will update if I find anything bad about the next two.
