Slick Little Device for Backups
Pros: - Inexpensive - fits in a normal CD slot - great for setting up rotating offsite backups - easy to install
Cons: none
Overall Review: note: I saw a msg this only handles disks up to 1.5 TB, something about the clearances. Be sure to investigate if you want to go larger.
Not so Good
Pros: Cheap
Cons: the 2.5mm female fitting was too loose for the 2.5mm male plantronic connector. It wouldn't hold the connection.
Good Stuff at a Good Price
Pros: Plug it in and it works, just make sure you get it seated well. I upgraded from 4 gb to 8 gb on Win 10 with a noticeable improvement.
Cons: none
Overall Review: First attempt at installing, resulted in 8.0 GB installed (4.0 GB usable) Reseated memory sticks and all is good. Note: Windows 10 notices the new memory and apparently ran a full memory test as the initial boot took close to 5 minutes. All is good now.
Good way to delay upgrading your AV Amp
Pros: I have an older Plasma TV and a Denon AV amp that does not support HDMI. So to delay buying a new amp and TV, I thought I'd try the KanexPro converter. I plugged in the cables and the power, the picture came in great, but no audio. I found the PC did not automatically send the audio down the HDMI cable. I powered off/on the KanexProUnder and PC recognized the audio. If not under MS Windows, you can go under the Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback and changed the playback setting for the KanexPro.
Cons: Small nit - the red power light is very bright, you'll want to cover it or face it to the wall.
Overall Review: If you're hooking up a PC, I'd recommend changing your settings on your PC to make your TV an Extended display, and set the Resolution to the max. It makes the picture much better in my case with a laptop, who display does not support the higher resolution. Control Panel -> Display
Replace Realtek card on Toshiba Satellite
Pros: - Relatively easy to install (had to open up entire back of laptop) - WiFi very fast on N network. Internet speed test 70 Mbps via Asus RT-N66U. Can't wait to try on an AC wireless network. - Big step up from the included Realtek card. - I would recommend this card to everyone.
Cons: Bluetooth does not function. There are many updates coming from Intel. I'm not sure Bluetooth worked with Realtek either (never tested). I don't use Bluetooth so no biggy for me.
Overall Review: Installed on Toshiba Satellite S855-S5378 running Win 8.1.
Good size monitor & well priced
Pros: Nice wide display, work very well with my ASUS laptop (K53E). The speakers are pretty good though i have very low expectations for built in monitor speakers. I've run it in VGA and HDMI mode both are good. No bad pixels. I use it for web development, and can get 2 good size windows, fully displayed.
Cons: none
Overall Review: Initial setup is not intuitive. I think the default input is DVI, so you need to change the input setting by pressing the button closes to the power button a few times until you get to the input you want (DVI, VGA, HDMI). I hooked it up to my TV cable box for fun, it give a great picture.
