Works great in Playstation 3 (PS3)

Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD3200BEVT 320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD3200BEVT 320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Much more space. Compatible with PS3. Makes sense if you want to download demos from PSN as the 40GB very quickly reaches its limits. Good $ ratio for this amount of storage.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: This drive fits and works perfectly well in the 40GB Playstation 3 so far. I just backed up the existing 40GB drive to another external USB drive. Switched the system drives in less than 5 minutes. Reuploaded the system from the Sony site to reinstall on the Scorpio through a USB key, and finally restored my data with the backup utility. I was back in business (...) in no time.

Works in MacBook pro 13 for designer

WD Black² Dual Drive 2.5" 120 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD Kit WD1001X06XDTL
WD Black² Dual Drive 2.5" 120 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD Kit WD1001X06XDTL

Pros: Faster and compact all-in-1 format Take advantage of larger expensive capacity Could be setup as fusion drive (TBD-not tested)

Cons: limited capacity of SSD LENGTHY process to install it in os X not as flexible as a 2-drive system

Overall Review: I was able to install this guy in MacBookPro 13 2012 / OS X (see questions and answers for detailed process) and it works just fine. This drive is setup with OS X + applications on the SSD drive and a file system with Dropbox and users downloads dir on the HD. Still much better and faster setup than a default 750GB HD if you don't want to get rid of your optical drive!

3 month of solid performance

Wintec FileMate SolidGO 48GB ExpressCard 34 with Mini USB 2.0 External Solid State Drive (SSD) 3FMS4D48M-WR
Wintec FileMate SolidGO 48GB ExpressCard 34 with Mini USB 2.0 External Solid State Drive (SSD) 3FMS4D48M-WR

Pros: I'm doing a lot of graphic/video work, and installed it in my macbook pro 15" 2008. It's been working wonders and is much faster than my original 7200 RPM. So far, so good. Excellent purchase as Photoshop, Bridge and Ae now start considerably faster than before. The computer is overall much more responsive event when dealing with email, browsing, etc.

Cons: Size of course. You really have to limit the amount of apps you're using, move your user folder to the hard drive (options in accounts for osX), and eventually use a product like xslimmer. After an improper BootCamp setup, the computer sometimes does not detect the drive and requires to select the drive at boot, but it does not happen very often.

Overall Review: I think the price is appropriate for the performance boost it provides. You forget you're working on a laptop after a while.I would definitely have purchased a larger-sized unit as 48 GB is a little too cozy for my taste (especially after using app such as final cut studio…) but oh well.

Replaced Raptor in a MacPro

OCZ Core Series 2.5" 128GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD2-1C128G
OCZ Core Series 2.5" 128GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD2-1C128G

Pros: Fast-fast-fast. Great for a system disk!

Cons: Not sure of any so far! I'm not using that disk for video files or my Photoshop scratch file (large files needing high transfer rates). Slightly expensive, but justifiable for the gain of performance in a workstation (so I think any way) as long as you don't need more than 110 GB for your system.

Overall Review: I just upgraded my raptor 150GB that I used as a system drive and the "new" system works perceptibly faster. My system launches application quite a bit faster than my old drive (I use mostly the Adobe suite). Overall, my Macpro 2008 does feel quite a bit snappier. An application such as Bridge that would take forever(...) now opens in a few seconds. My boot time has noticeably decreased as well. My system is complemented by a fast RAID file system. I'm also waiting for the 2.5 adapter kit from MaxUpgrades, but I made do by removing the tray and just holding the drive with a single elastic band in the machine as it is very light! I decided to bypass the Velociraptor upgrade, as I did not need so much extra space for my apps and preferred the real-world performance...Which I definitely get!
