Obscenely fast

PowerColor Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card AX4870X2 2GBD5-H
PowerColor Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card AX4870X2 2GBD5-H

Pros: Where to start...we all know the reputation around this card already but man it is fast. Runs source engine games at 75 fps at absolute max settings on my 42" 1080p TV and about the same on my 1440x900 monitor. Which may not sound like much of a feat but it changes the experience of the games entirely for me.

Cons: High cost but it's worth it. Included drivers CD that came with this is garbage just download the latest (catalyst 8.8) from the ATi website.

Overall Review: Look online for EXPERTool I got it from the eggxpert forums. With this tool you can fix the fan speed issues and cool it off DRAMATICALLY. I ramped up the fanspeed to 50% (though it now sounds like a jet engine) and it dropped from 80 celcius to around 40. Find your happy medium with the fan sound vs. cooling power.

Most Critical Review

Close but not quite

Perixx PX-5000 White LED Illuminated Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - Cherry MX Black Switch, Anti-Ghosting NKRO, 6 Combo Macro Keys
Perixx PX-5000 White LED Illuminated Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - Cherry MX Black Switch, Anti-Ghosting NKRO, 6 Combo Macro Keys

Pros: The white backlight is actually a nice flat and true white. The keyboard is a full set of keys but not loaded with unnecessary features. Black switches feel pretty good.

Cons: Left alt does not work. Just simply does not work. The numpad 8 LED chooses when it wants to work, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. The software leaves much to be desired. This isn't a case of the software being featureless it's more a case of the software being finicky like the aforementioned numpad 8 key's LED. The keyboard seems to only be interested in working via my monitor's built-in USB hub. If I connect it to any direct USB ports it will work for 5 seconds or so and not work for 5 seconds or so. No amount of tinkering seems to fix this issue for me.

Overall Review: I'm a little disappointed to say the least and it's one of those things I don't really want to get any deeper into financially with shipping it back and forth to RMA. So I guess for now it's just going to be connected to my monitor hub and I've since swapped out the windows key and left alt. TL;DR: bummer

This was what I was looking for

CM Storm Recon - Ambidextrous 4000 DPI Gaming Mouse with Multicolor LEDs for Left and Right Handed Users
CM Storm Recon - Ambidextrous 4000 DPI Gaming Mouse with Multicolor LEDs for Left and Right Handed Users

Pros: The texture feels quite good on it and the overall construction seems solid. The software is functional and surprisingly not buggy or intrusive. They got it right in this respect. The shape is decent. It feels a little small coming from another brand of mouse but I adapted to this one quickly. The price on this mouse is perfect.

Cons: Minor nitpicks: The LEDs do not produce the colors you come up with in software. In short, the LED implementation could be better. (e.g. to produce a flat white on a 0-255 scale for RGB I have it set to R:200 G:100 B:75. This should obviously be some hideous orange color but comes out as white for me.) I worry a tiny bit about the longevity of the skates but it's probably only worrying.

Overall Review: I was specifically looking for an ambidextrous mouse because I like using the right side forward/back buttons (buttons under the ring finger and pinky) as push-to-talk keys for VOIP (Mumble in my case.) This has fit the bill nicely. GJ Cooler Master!

Pretty good

Corsair Vengeance MM600 (CH-9000017-WW) Gaming Mouse Mat
Corsair Vengeance MM600 (CH-9000017-WW) Gaming Mouse Mat

Pros: Dual sided with a rougher texture on one side and a smooth texture on the other. Feels as if it will last a while.

Cons: The only real con I can come up with is I think it's a bit overpriced. It is basically just a pair of thin plastic sheets glued to a piece of aluminum with some feet at the edges.

Overall Review: It is larger than I expected. If desk surface space is limited you may want to do a little measuring before ordering. Overall I really like it but I would feel much better about the purchase if the price were better.

SAMSUNG 840 Series 2.5" 250GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7TD250BW
SAMSUNG 840 Series 2.5" 250GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7TD250BW

Pros: Read speeds on par with the fastest drives on the market. Included software (SSD Magician) is actually useful. Very good pricing $/GB.

Cons: TLC NAND is an unproven commodity for SSDs. Middle of the road write speeds. (Fair trade off for the price point in my opinion.)

Overall Review: Everyone seems really concerned with the TLC NAND in these drives but I read a couple of reviews elsewhere on the web that had statements from Samsung saying they were confident in the longevity of these drives compared to competitors MLC based drives. The point being the TLC is cherry picked off of their own production lines and as an extra measure it's well over provisioned. (You can dictate over provisioning in the included software.) I'm not very concerned about the TLC now that I have the product in hand and have had the opportunity to play around with it.

A headset that's actually worth the money

Corsair HS1 USB Connector Circumaural Headset
Corsair HS1 USB Connector Circumaural Headset

Pros: High quality sound. Way more than acceptable quality sound. The overall design of the headset seems sturdy enough. I had a couple pairs of headsets (by the same company) that broke at the same point in the headband after a few months of use. I really doubt these will do that. On a side note, some people have said these are ugly. I think they actually look pretty attractive. People complain about a lack of bass on this headset. It is most definitely there! Adjust your EQ settings and find the bass you like. These were made to have a flat sound and accurate sound reproduction out of the box, it's up to the user to adjust EQ and find the levels they like. Think of it like this, would you rather have your food salted and peppered the way the chef wants it or would you rather suit it to your taste? I'm a BK man so I like having it my way.

Cons: A couple of nitpicks: The cable on this is braided and seems durable enough, but when the cable twists up and binds, it can be a real pain to unbind it. USB only. It would have been nice to have 3.5mm jacks, however Corsair said it had to do it that way for Dolby certification. So somewhat understandable. The software is a bit bland. The psychoacoustics (virtual 7.1, 5.1 etc) work well though. Long story short on the software, if Corsair could provide maybe some more feature rich software package that would be nice for future iterations.

Overall Review: I browsed the Corsair forums after getting these and noticed they have some very respectable customer service reps and techs that listen to people and ACTUALLY try to make customers happy. That is so incredibly hard to find in a company. If I have a problem with my HS1 (which I doubt I will) I feel confident I'll be taken care of.
