Excellent Board

ASUS GRYPHON Z97 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS GRYPHON Z97 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Great middle ground between the Maximus VII Gene and the Z97M-PLUS. It is a Sabertooth board so you get the 5 year warranty and the neat little certificate of reliability. ooked up everything (i7-4770k, 16gb HyperX 1866mhz, 660ti) and it worked perfectly. Memory defaulted to its top speed (1866mhz) which was a pleasant surprise since most other boards I have used start at 1600mhz and you have to manually turn it up to its advertised speed. No problems from this board over a week later.

Cons: Ai Suite 3 is utterly useless. This is not the same Ai Suite 3 that the other boards get. This is the Sabertooth special version which only comes with Thermal Radar 2. There is no Dual Intelligent Processor 5 or Autotuning, no Fan expert, no Turbov Evo, no Turbo LAN. Thermal Radar 2 is nothing more than a glorified fan controlling and temp monitoring software. And it doesn't even do that well. There is no way to set the refresh rate of the sensor polling so it so slow and updates about once ever 2 seconds which makes it useless to me. The thermal efficiency tuner is cool but only for the first few times you use it but overall it serves no point. HWMonitor, CPU-Z and SpeedFan can do the same job as Thermal Radar 2 only much better. Another thing that irritates me about Thermal Radar 2 is that it is advertised as a Radar so you would expect a diagram or a map of the board showing all the temps and their respective sensor locations. Thermal Radar 2 only gives you a long list of the temp sensors. Ai Suite 3 for this board is overall useless and I am suggesting that you dont even install it. Other programs do a much better job at giving sensor data or controlling fans. The excellent bios on this board is also an option.

Overall Review: Mine shipped with Bios version 801 which is the very first one so you will have to update if you want the 4790k to work. This board may be small but it can hang with the premium juggernauts out there. Great bios, quality, and easy of use easily make up for Ai Suite 3's short falls. Highly recommend.

Overall Great

SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s 1x nm Samsung Toggle DDR 2.0 3-Bit MLC NAND Flash Memory (400Mbps) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very fast and responsive SSD. Moving up from a worn down 830 SSD to this is a noticeable jump. Everything just loads and responds faster. The Samsung SSD Magician is pure gold. Excellent software. Helps you manage the settings and performance of your SSD. It even optimizes your OS to best work with your new drive.

Cons: I would not use RAPID mode. From what I have gathered it is DRAM caching mode that uses some of your RAM as a data cache to load things faster which is great and all but it made my system unstable. I started getting Blue Screens with the code "kernel_data_inpage_error" after a few hours. The windows 7 action center diagnosed the problem as being unable to read the hard drives. I tested the RAM using the build in windows memory checker and it was fine so it had to be SSD causing the problems. I turned RAPID mode off and boom no more blue screens for a week now.

Overall Review: Great drive despite the issue I had with RAPID mode. Don't really need it anyway since the drive is fast enough for any situation without it. My system config for anyone who was wondering (Asus Gryphon Z97, i7-4770k, GTX 660ti, 16gb Kingston HyperX Fury 1866mhz)

Excellent as always

HyperX FURY 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model HX318C10FK2/16

Pros: Great look and feel. Everything worked perfectly. No errors or problems. It is Kingston HyperX after all. They make nothing but the best. Board defaulted to 1866mhz as advertised.

Cons: None

Overall Review: Great RAM highly recommend.

Great Cooler

Noctua NH-L12 120mm & 92mm SSO Bearing PWM Fans CPU Cooler
Noctua NH-L12 120mm & 92mm SSO Bearing PWM Fans CPU Cooler

Pros: Very high quality packaging and heatsink/fans. The mounting system is very easy to use. The same as the D-14 and most other Noctua products. The fans are very very quiet and even at max speed are drowned out by my other case fans. A plus of this cooler is that since it blows air down onto the motherboard, it coolers the socket, power delivery, RAM, and back of the GPU. Motherboard temp sensors showed consistently low temps for the power delivery and RAM. Pretty good temps at idle and stock clocks. Cores idle between 27-32 C at stock clocks (i7-4770k). In game temps are great as well. Playing War Thunder all the cores average around 40-45C with Core 1 being at around 55C (at 100% usage).

Cons: This cooler is not for overclocking. Do not buy this is you plan to overclock. It simply cant handle it. I ran prime95 (stock clocks (i7-4770k) with fans at maximum (Corsair 350D case with 2 Aerocool Sharks pulling in air from the front)) and the temps were in the mid 60's (Celsius) . After about the 5 mins they had climbed to the low 70's. I left it for about 2 hours and came back to find some of the cores where in the high 70's. Initially this cooler does a decent job but after a while it gets heat soaked and temps begin to soar. I opened the side panel and touched the heat pipes which were pretty toasty. To the point where it was began to burn after about 5 seconds. The fins were also very warm so at least it was wicking the heat away.

Overall Review: Very low profile and doesn't obstruct anything. A tab bit overpriced in my opinion but it is still a good value. Great cooler for a small and silent build.

Very Fast

Intel Core i7-4770K - Core i7 4th Gen Haswell Quad-Core 3.5 GHz LGA 1150 84W Intel HD Graphics Desktop Processor - BX80646I74770K
Intel Core i7-4770K - Core i7 4th Gen Haswell Quad-Core 3.5 GHz LGA 1150 84W Intel HD Graphics Desktop Processor - BX80646I74770K

Pros: Its a Core i7 for goodness sake. Nothing else on the market stands up to it. I am coming from a FX-8150 and it is a massive leap up in performance. This chip does better in games and general computing than my 8150 did at 4.4ghz. You truly do get what you pay for.

Cons: These chips do get a little warm even at stock clocks. First trying to overclock was a daunting task for me since there is are just so many settings and things that can or need to be changed. It was challenging at first. Im sure some of you out there are calling me stupid right now. Coming from an AMD system which was just a few settings to change and boom you are at 4.4ghz to an Intel system where there are tons of settings and things to change. For example I was sitting there scratching my head in confusion on what the difference between adaptive and offset voltage was. I still haven't figured out how to get a decent overclock so I just left it at stock.

Overall Review: Great chip even at stock clocks. You pretty much dont need to overclock because it is fast enough for most games unless you are rocking multi-gpu monster rigs playing BF4 at 4k or whatever.

Overall Good but has a few issues

Corsair Obsidian Series 350D CC-9011029-WW Black Aluminum / Steel MicroATX Case with Window
Corsair Obsidian Series 350D CC-9011029-WW Black Aluminum / Steel MicroATX Case with Window

Pros: It is a overall well built little case. Good airflow and a sleek and high class look to it. Very easy to put the side panels on and off. This might seem trivial but coming from a Fractal Design Define R4 it was much needed improvement. Plenty of cable management as long as you do not use to many extension cables.

Cons: I had extreme difficulties mounting 2 140mm Aerocool Shark's in the front. It was a bit ridiculous. The motherboard panel was a bit flimsy same with the rear of the case. It came bent out of shape to the point where the rear I/O shield would not pop into place. I had to beat and bend it until it would stay in place. Also the number of SSD mounts it came with was 2 not 3 as shown in the picture. You can only mount 1 of them because they are spaced so close that the cables will not fit for the 2nd one. Also this case only comes with 2 5.25 inch drive mounts which really ticked me off. There is so much space and it is wasted.

Overall Review: The front dust filter is pretty much useless if you ask me. It isn't capable of filtering the finer dust particles out of the air only the bigger pieces. I attached some silverstone dust filters onto my 2 140mm front intake fans to try and solve this problem but I was forced to ditch this effort since they would not fit. The front space to mount fans is at most 26mm of clearance. Just enough for the fans and nothing else. I would recommend this case if you are looking for a high quality microATX case. Much better than it's competitors (Bitfenix).
