Intel who?

AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition - Phenom II X4 Deneb Quad-Core 3.5 GHz Socket AM3 125W Desktop Processor - HDZ970FBGMBOX
AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition - Phenom II X4 Deneb Quad-Core 3.5 GHz Socket AM3 125W Desktop Processor - HDZ970FBGMBOX

Pros: Rock solid - cool as a cucumber (92 - 96F) with stock fan - Got if at one hell of a great price and figured I'd buy 2 more - Some say there's not much difference from this and the 955, Add 16Gb of DDR3 1600 and you'll see the difference, Little WeedHopper!

Cons: None, Nada, Zip and Uh Uh.

Overall Review: Slammed this bad boy onto an Asus M4A89GTD Pro w/16Gb's G. Skill DDR3-1600 and 2x1Tb Seagates with Linux goodness occupying those platters! VirtualBox VM's on one and XBMC Media Center Rockin' the Blu-Ray and HiDEF Movie channels on the other. A 24" Samsung LED HD LCD and crunchin' movies for the PtP networks was never so fast. "Who needs Intel when you gots the Hook up from AMD, SUCKA'S!!!

Gateway Desktop PC DX Series DX4350-UR21P (PT.GBYP2.003) AMD Phenom II X6 1065T 6GB DDR3 1.5TB HDD ATI Radeon HD 4250 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Pros: None.......arrived DOA.

Cons: Against my better judgement, I allowed someone talk me into purchasing this item for them rather than building a much better machine myself. Much to my gut feeling, this item arrived DOA and the only plus was NewEgg resolved the issue within 7 days (total return shipping and replacement arrival). Though I do like some Acer products, Gateway was never on my radar for reliability and workmanship. Poor Q.A. obviously allowed this machine to slip onto the delivery truck. Never again Gateway.

Overall Review: As a systems builder and Linux Admin for the past 25 years, this will be the first and last retail system that I will be talked into buying. Acer should have stayed far away from this 3rd tier manufacturer.

Geek Squad Rookies Go Home

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ - Athlon 64 X2 Windsor Dual-Core 3.0 GHz Socket AM2 125W Processor - ADX6000CZBOX
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ - Athlon 64 X2 Windsor Dual-Core 3.0 GHz Socket AM2 125W Processor - ADX6000CZBOX

Pros: It just works! Have 3 of these and not a problem with any one of them. Running on 2 Asus M2N32-SLI DLX and 1 MSI K9N2-SLI Platinum board with SUSE 11.1, Ubuntu 8.10, and Mandriva 2009, 4Gb of Geil Black Dragon DDR2 800 each and stock Heatsinks. They barely break 45 C under a load.

Cons: None!!

Overall Review: Not sure how some of these buyers can assemble a rig and get 57 C and say they have any Tech Knowledge. Mine average between 36 C and 40 C idle and around 45 C running SUSE 11.1 and MythTV for HD recording, transcoding shows for DVD and running WoW in WINE all while using the stock heatsinks! Installing a CPU and keeping it cooled is a no-brainer......AIRFLOW, AIRFLOW, and, you guessed it.....AIRFLOW!!! If you don't know what you're doin', don't blame it on the hardware.

Best So Far!

Team Xtreem DARK 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TXDD2048M800HC4DC-D
Team Xtreem DARK 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TXDD2048M800HC4DC-D

Pros: Great memory at any price! These Xtreem Dark modules are better than other name brand modules at twice the price. Installed in a M2N32-SLI DLX WiFi Edition, changed the timings to actual settings and BAM!...Installed Mandriva Linux without a hitch. Took a chance after seeing other reviews elsewhere and they turned out to be better that I could have hoped for.

Cons: Didn't buy more than 2Gb!!

Overall Review: These will definitely become some of the better known modules as more people try them. As a high-end systems builder, I would highly recommend these modules to anyone looking to do-it yourself or just to upgrade your current modules.

AVerMedia MTVHDA18 AVerTVHD MCE A180

Pros: Received this item and had it installed on SuSE 10.1 and watching Hi-Def in 5 minutes! Worked right out of the box with Xine and Kaffeine. Contrary to those who think Linux is hard to deal with. Probably works better on Linux than on Windows!

Cons: None!

Overall Review: Nice alternative to the pcHDTV card made for Linux. Highly recommend!

Shady Company!

Never received these items, let alone any type of contact on their status. It wasn't until I requested a refund that they contacted me and decided to tell us that "the post office returned the items to us with no explanation." Really? No...Really? And now you decide to tell me? Even though the tracking number never shows that it was in the possession of the Post Office to begin with. Steer clear of this company and any products offered by them. You may find that giving them your money is the only part of the transaction that actually gets completed and lack of communication and failure to actually ship your purchase is their M.O.!
