Swifty Morgan's heat issue

ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Pros: Had absolutely no problems hooking everything up and getting it running. Sli 16 is good, but a little over-rated.Can play games smoother, at higher resolutions, and at higher settings, making things look better. Frame rates for sli mode over single card raised frame-rates 12 to 15 percent. On line gameplay kill ratio went way up. I don't know what the gripes are all about. A few of these guys must really be terribly inexperienced with putting these machines together. Cons: Having problems getting the board to cool down. Going to try a better copper heatsink and fan. If that doesn't work....a sledge hammer....lol. Chip set at load is 46c, mobo 49c. Too warm for me. At idle they are 31 and 33 respectively. Other Thoughts: A friend of mime has the lesser valued board with the passive cooling. His runs really, really well, costs less, and runs cooler.......?

Cons: Heres an update for this post about the heating issue...I have dual 7800's. The cards don't blow the heat out the back, but inside the case...shame on the manufacturer for that. So for a test solution I removed two of the slot covers on the back of the case just above each of the video cards. I then turned the lower front fan around so it sucks air out instead of in. I then used a small piece of cardboard, cut to fit, and placed it above the upper video card, literally cutting the inside of the case in half, so the hot air from the cards didn't rise, but was kept low so the fan in front could suck the hot air out. That's where the excess heat is coming from. Temps dropped signifigantly. Not where I want them, but enough to show what was going on. This weekend I'm going to put these components in a slightly larger, but airier case, and then I'm going to order 2 arctic cooling gizmo's for the video cards, so the hot air is blown out the back of the case, and that should take care of the

Overall Review: Well worth the efforts

Corsair Vengeance 2000 Wireless 7.1 Gaming headset
Corsair Vengeance 2000 Wireless 7.1 Gaming headset

Pros: First impressions when seen through the box. Looked like brushed aluminum quality headset. Mic adjustment. Positive click control and very flexible. Ability to walk around house while these are on and still hear what's going on in on your computer, whether it's music or listening to your friends on ""teamspeak"" type program. TeamSpeak type programs. No problem experienced here. I would assume that all will appreciate the clear voice these provide over the game. Music, these things were made with voice in mind. Anything I listened to, ABBA, Roberts Flack, Pink Floyd, Blues, Bangles, many others. ( Ozzy is helpless ) you could hear tones not attainable by any speaker system I've been around in years. Not only the voices, but the music as well. There were times when I thought there wasn't enough true base but these aren't house speakers these are headsets. One exception-Pink Floyd will rupture your eardrums and make your ears bleed... movies. very good experience with all movies I watched. Either streaming or off DVD. Again, voice was supreme here. The wireless adapter works fine for up to about 14 feet or so. After that the sound will abruptly stop until you move back inside that circle. You can charge while playing. Cord is long enough. I found it was faster to charge if the wireless adapter was not plugged in for some reason. good: music-race games-movies-anything voice related. get very loud with absolutely no distortion.

Cons: HEAT! 5 minutes after they are on it feels like somebody took your head and shoved it in a microwave oven. Almost unbearable. No metal, all plastic. Not enough adjustment for size 6 3/4 hat size. Headband only rests on one small part of the back of your head. Not enough padding. Very uncomfortable. A standard knob is needed on each ear piece. One for volume control, the other for balance/fade. There is almost no ""stereo"" or ""surround sound"" effect with these. The sound is almost always slightly behind and to the right. Even when bypassing the Vengeance control panel it's not really any better. More on that later. FPS........ forget it. These were not made with FPS gamers in mind ( * ). There is an extreme lack of localization with sounds in all the FPS I played. ( FarCry2, BC2, MOH, etc. )...... ( * localization is where sounds coming from a distance are faint and gradually become louder as persons or objects get closer to your location ) Everything is the same volume regardless of how far away it is. Very poor design here. By passing the Vengeance Control Panel makes the sound worse as it jumps unrealistically from ear to ear. Again, very poor design for FPS gamers. TeamSpeak type programs. No problem experienced here. I would assume that all will appreciate the clear voice these provide over the game. Racing Games...... they should please people who like to play race games. You can make proper adjustments in the Vengeance Control Panel to make these just right. The sounds come from where they are supposed to and the localizations aren't that big a problem.

Overall Review: good: music-race games-movies-anything voice related. get very loud with absolutely no distortion. bad: FPS uselessness. poor sound localizations. HEAT

Rosewill RCW-301 2 Pin Power Switch Cable, Momentary On / Off Push Button, ATX Computer Switch Wire, 17.5 Inch Length, 2-Pack

Pros: good for small cases. able to keep wires hidden. not good ( long ) enough for an antek 900. needed a longer one which i ordered when buying these. ( en labs )

Cons: none

Overall Review: what's there to say. it's wires and a switch and it worked.

Pros: right card at the right price.

Cons: none. was what it was advertised to be.

Overall Review: worked well on FarCry2 in Windows XP Pro64 with HDR and Bloom and AA disabled/amd 1090t. Was purchased to be used as a physx card and it does that without fail or faulter. amd8300/gtx960/vista 64bit. ( Unreal Tournament3 w-physx mod )

ETopSell External USB 3.5" 1.44MB Floppy Disk Drive PC Laptop Notebook Diskette Portable Plug & Play with Windows ME/2000/XP/Vista/Win 7

Pros: plugged it in, less than a minute I was running floppy's.

Cons: none

Overall Review: worth the 10 or 12 bucks I paid. found out I couldn't throw out any of my old floppy's because work I thought I lost a decade and a half ago, were on them. amazing look back on "retro" work and crazy stuff you saved for whatever reason at the time./

OK monitor

AOC U2879VF 28" 4K 3840 x 2160 UHD Gaming Monitor, 1ms Response Time, 10-bit Panel w/ Over 1 Billion Colors, AMD FreeSync, 20M:1 SmartContrast, DisplayPort/HDMI/DVI/VGA Inputs
AOC U2879VF 28" 4K 3840 x 2160 UHD Gaming Monitor, 1ms Response Time, 10-bit Panel w/ Over 1 Billion Colors, AMD FreeSync, 20M:1 SmartContrast, DisplayPort/HDMI/DVI/VGA Inputs

Pros: nicer looking than 1920x1200. good to have the power brick vs power in the monitor and have all that heat in your face. really good for long distance shots in FPS games. get more information to see at greater distance. ( body parts are easier to see far away ). the OSD is one of the easiest to get used to I've ever experienced.

Cons: Probably the worse viewing angles I've seen in a long time. You can't vary your position behind the monitor to a great degree, unlike other monitors I've sat behind. ( this spans years ). Needs to have a slight curve to cure that. NO SOFTWARE included inn box. Want to try i-menu. Hopefully AOC sends proper software?? downloads don't have right files. CANNOT get the monitor bright enough. Colors just don't "pop" the way I like and the "shadows" setting needs to allow 60-70 without that white haze showing up. I think that would take care of the brightness issue. Can't seem to get a "yellow" ambience to sunlight to show up for some reason. Quite annoying when you know it is there on other monitors and expected in games you are used to.

Overall Review: DP only needed for freesync to work. power brick sits on top of old gpu heatsink to help keep heat off of desktop. works well. for $270 bucks it's a decent enough monitor. hope it lasts like my $289 HANNS G I've had for the past 7 years. still no problems.

pass on it

it will allow you to install 4 SSD's into the bracket, but the bracket's holes are misaligned and you cannot screw these things to your drive cage. I have to re-drill my own holes in the bracket base, in the right places, use a tap to re-thread the bracket so I can use it for it's purpose............ doesn't anybody try these things after they make them? just box them up and ship them out. really bad, bad work ethic ( quality control ) in this plant. thanks for the extra work and a near useless product for the average Joe.
