COOLER MASTER Elite 100 RC-100-KKP3-GP Black Steel / Plastic MITX/MATX Slim Case Computer Case Flex ATX 150W, Active PFC Power Supply
COOLER MASTER Elite 100 RC-100-KKP3-GP Black Steel / Plastic MITX/MATX Slim Case Computer Case Flex ATX 150W, Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: VESA Mount. Mulitple hard drives. There have been some comments that this case will not hold a 3.5" drive. I had no problems attaching a 3.5 drive to the removable drive frame. The 3.5" inch drive must, however, be attached before attaching the slim optical drive as the optical drive covers the 3.5" drive mounting holes. I was also able to install a 2.5" drive in addition to the 3.5, and I could probably fit at least one more 2.5 without much difficulty.

Cons: Too small for mATX, a bit big for ITX. Poor layout results in unnecessarily tight interior. I bought this case because I liked the included VESA mount and wanted to use it in a "backpack" set-up behind a monitor or HDTV. The layout and size of the case results in a peculiar and unnecessary compromise. A mATX motherboard will fit, but all slots are blocked by the power supply. An ITX board seems to be a better choice for installation, but the case seems a bit large in width and depth compared to many other ITX cases. First motherboard was a ZOTAC GF8200-C-E with AMD Athlon II X2 240, but stock heatsink/fan was tall enough to cause case lid to vibrate loudly. Switched to a Zotac 610i with Celeron e3300, which proved to be a better fit, but power supply blocked access to motherboard speaker header. Airflow to power supply is somewhat restricted, so PS will get louder as it tries to draw in air to cool itself.

Overall Review: The drive frame arrangement is unusual with hard drives mounted in a peculiar manner (drives hung under and over the frame with HDs oriented in different directions. This is OK because it allows a relatively large number of drives to be fitted into a very small space. This case requires more thought in assembling the unit than most other cases, but is still a good case in a proper setting. Although this case proved to be a bit too noisy for use as an HTPC, it has been a great success in a office environment hung behind a 24" monitor. With the Zotac 610i and Celeron e3300 (great CPU--good power, low price), this combination has proven to be a large screen setup with a small desktop footprint, decent power, and excellent storage at a very low price. The combination also uses a fraction of the electricity of the computer it replaced.
