Awesome Monitor

SAMSUNG ToC T220HD Rose Black 22" 5ms HDMI Widescreen HDTV Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 10000:1 Built in DTV Tuner & Dolby Digital Surround Speakers
SAMSUNG ToC T220HD Rose Black 22" 5ms HDMI Widescreen HDTV Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 10000:1 Built in DTV Tuner & Dolby Digital Surround Speakers

Pros: Great, crisp picture in TV mode, especially with the HD channels. More cable jacks than you know what to do with: Optical Audio Out, DVI, D-Sub, Headphone, Component, 2 HDMIs Zero dead pixels and no ghosting (My previous monitor had a 2ms response time, so I'm impressed despite "downgrading" to a 5ms LCD) Excellent for the college dorm.

Cons: Some light bleed on the edges, but mostly noticible in a dark room and on a black screen. Flipping between DTV channels is a little slow. Built-in speakers aren't the best in the world, but what do you expect... they're built-in monitor speakers. Also this monitor isn't 1080p, which means your 1080x channels will either be cropped or scaled down to 1680x1050.

Overall Review: Probably my biggest gripe with this monitor is that it isn't "Full HD". Of course, I could have gone with the 24" version of this monitor, but obviously that would have cost about $100 more. If this was a 21.5" monitor (16:9, 1920x1080 resolution), it wouldn't have been so hard for me to choose between this and a 16:9 monitor w/o the ATSC tuner.

SAMSUNG ToC T220HD Rose Black 22" 5ms HDMI Widescreen HDTV Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 10000:1 Built in DTV Tuner & Dolby Digital Surround Speakers

Pros: Great colors, no dead pixels, and decent QAM signal reception. I use this primarily as a monitor, so I can't complain about the speakers; I use an external system already. I like the option to turn off the light effect and the startup/shutdown town. I like the inclusion of a QAM tuner. While quality is nothing special, I do like having the option of switching back and forth

Cons: I've noticed that the QAM tuner has a difficult time keeping up with HD broadcast streams. I often get garbled sound (sometimes video) on 1080p broadcasts, and I have to change channels back and forth to get it back on track. This only applies if the monitor is hooked directly to a wall jack, and not to an external DVR/Digital Cable Box. Also, although it has Digital Optical Audio Out.... I wish it had a digital coaxial audio output. I went to a store today and bought a coaxial cable to replace the cable I use in the headphone jack. I had forgotten that this monitor does not have that output mode --

Overall Review: I've read so many reviews about people complaining about the TV aspect of this monitor. Truth is that Samsung markets this product as a monitor and not as a TV because its primary purpose is to serve as a MONITOR. It just happens to have an QAM tuner as a little "bonus", so to speak. That being said, compared with an actual Samsung TV, you should expect to have sub-par speakers, viewing angles, etc. You should expect not to have PIP and out-of-the-box VESA mounting. It is a monitor first, a TV last.
