Amazing receiver

YAMAHA RX-A3000 7.2-Channel AVENTAGE Network A/V Receiver App for iPhone or iPod Touch
YAMAHA RX-A3000 7.2-Channel AVENTAGE Network A/V Receiver App for iPhone or iPod Touch

Pros: Having been a longtime Yamaha fan, I was thrilled to see the new Aventage line arrive. My previous receiver, a Yamaha flagship RX-V1, was beginning to show signs of age and was needing replacement. I chose the A3000 because of its granular settings for the HQV processor, and due to its greater power delivery. I will most likely never have 11 speakers in my home theater, but it's nice to know that it's there if I ever wanted to. When the A3000 arrived, I was impressed at how much lighter than the RX-V1 this unit was, and yet it somehow delivered twice the power to all channels. The ports are well-labeled and easy to find, and connections were a breeze. Sound quality is absolutely amazing. This thing flat out rocks. Unlike some other receiver brands, the A3000 delivers crisp, clear audio without muddiness, excessive bass boost, or punching any frequency range higher than another. Fantastic upgrade and refinement from the RX-V1.

Cons: While installing, I discovered that the receiver would not take an HDMI source and output it to the component RGB out for the monitor. Had to make a midnight run to Walmart to buy an HDMI cable. Not a big deal, I just needed to plan better for my higher-quality sources.

Overall Review: The HQV video processing is impressive. Even my wife immediately noticed the picture quality improvement. YPAO was amazing. The RX-V1 did not have anything similar, so having a single microphone doing the work that would previously have required an SPL Meter was nice. Note: You'll want to have an adjustable tripod available for the best measurements. My home theater system has never sounded so balanced and even. Remember that HDMI is a digital signal, so use the cheapest HDMI cables you can find that meet your length requirements. Don't let overpriced brands try to sell you on "better quality" when all that matters is the 0's and 1's get from point A to point B.

Works well

ADATA 8GB microSDHC Flash Card w/ SD and miniSD adapters Model MicroSDHC 8G 2 adt
ADATA 8GB microSDHC Flash Card w/ SD and miniSD adapters Model MicroSDHC 8G 2 adt

Pros: Works in Samsung Behold (T-Mobile phone) and in my TTDS. Can't complain there. Took 15-20 min to copy 5GB of data to it while plugged into the Behold.

Cons: Wish it came with an actual USB adapter in addition to the SD adapters. SD adapter does not work with my Canon SD400 camera -- camera thinks the card is locked when it is not.

Pros: Installed and immediately noticed a difference in the PC's speed. XP is just happier with more RAM and Sims 2 works a whole lot better now.

Cons: None

ADATA Extreme Edition 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model ADQVD1A16K

Pros: I've tended toward Corsair memory in the past but due to the issues their latest sticks of RAM seem to be having chose A.Data instead. No regrets, it's rock solid stable at 4-4-4-12, even at 1.8V. Bumped it to 2.0V to be safe. Like the red color heat spreaders -- goes nicely with the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 motherboard color scheme.

Cons: Is it really necessary to blister pack these things? They're a pain to get out of the packaging. I prefer having a package I can reuse to snap memory in and out of.

Overall Review: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 motherboard, Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, MSI GeForce 8600GTS, Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 SATA drives.

Stable

ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT 500 W ATX12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Like many reviews on other websites saw, the 12V rail does run a little hot (12.35V) but it doesn't seem to affect anything since it's within ATX specifications. I like the idea of the modular cables but because I have so many devices I ended up using all of them anyway. The bundled cables are nice.

Cons: Other power supplies that allow you to split off the 20+4pin connector and/or the 4+4pin connectors for dual-CPU latch together to make installation easier. Because the split-off connectors are keyed but do not snap together it can be confusing to get them to fit properly together. They are marked to help you out however.

Overall Review: Would have really liked to see a connector or adapter that gave me the option of using the red PCI-E cables to plug into a MOLEX connector instead of having only the square 4-pin connectors on them. I had to use an extra black-ended cable because the Gigabyte motherboard and MSI GeForce 8600GTS Video Card I bought use MOLEX instead of the 4-pin connector.

Pros: Great burner. Hasn't coastered a CD or DVD yet. Quick, detects well, and runs so quiet you can barely even hear it spin up.

Cons: Does not have a CD Audio out.
