So Far So Good

Linksys DPC3008 Advanced DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem
Linksys DPC3008 Advanced DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem

Pros: Works great so far. My speeds are what my ISP advertised so no complaints after all it is a cable modem not much more to say as long as it lasts.

Cons: None yet but I do regret buying the extended warranty. DO NOT DO IT! I have coverage on another item and I have been waiting almost a month now for the so called no questions asked gift card. I had to spend extra money to purchase a replacement device while these fools figure out it out. I made the mistake and bought coverage for three devices total now and I am not happy about the service or the turnaround time. This coverage is through Service Net (www.myserviceplan.com) I would go to another extended warrant place like Square Trade if I had to do it over. This plan sucks.

First Bad Hawking Product Purchased

HAWKING HWABN2 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Acess Point / Bridge Pro
HAWKING HWABN2 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Acess Point / Bridge Pro

Pros: Price, ease of use, simplicity

Cons: Bad out of the box, kept dropping the wireless connections of all devices connected to it every one to two minutes. Bought this to replace a faulty Engenius EAP300 and now I have two faulty WAP's. The search for a reliable WAP continues. Is there such a thing?

Overall Review: I have used Hawking products for years which is why I chose this one instead of one of the more popular WAP's. First time I've been burned by Hawking products. I paid shipping to receive a faulty product and now I get to pay shipping to send a faulty product back. Never thought I'd say this but BB is starting to look not so over-priced.

Don't Do It

HooToo® HT-IP206 Black Indoor 640 x 480 MAX Resolution RJ45 Wireless B/G IP Network Camera / Baby Monitor (CMOS Sensor, Two-way Audio, Pan/Tilt: 270°/120°, 10-LED Night Vision, Email Alerts)
HooToo® HT-IP206 Black Indoor 640 x 480 MAX Resolution RJ45 Wireless B/G IP Network Camera / Baby Monitor (CMOS Sensor, Two-way Audio, Pan/Tilt: 270°/120°, 10-LED Night Vision, Email Alerts)

Pros: Good features, doesn't require a computer to manage remotely.

Cons: I bought the two pack of these cameras. One went bad right away about a month after I got them. Tried to get an RMA and the support guy said "too bad so sad I can't find your NewEgg order in our DB". Never heard from them again. Avoid this brand like the plague. Still sitting with one bad camera after a year. Customer service is non-existent.

Overall Review: I really liked this camera during the month or so while it still worked. Will never buy HooToo again or recommend them to my clients that ask about this type of product since I'm the one that has to return defective items for them. I only recommend reliable products with good service and support.

Was ok...for a while

EnGenius EAP300 N300 Business Class Indoor High-power Long-range 800mW Wireless Access Point/WDS Bridge/WDS AP with Smoke Detector Housing & 802.3af PoE Support
EnGenius EAP300 N300 Business Class Indoor High-power Long-range 800mW Wireless Access Point/WDS Bridge/WDS AP with Smoke Detector Housing & 802.3af PoE Support

Pros: Nice features, good price.

Cons: I've had this about ten months now. I'm starting to have to restart it more and more the older it gets.

Overall Review: Wish I could find a reasonably priced WAP that would last longer than a year.

Needs A Lot fo Work

StarTech.com USB2SATAIDE USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Combo Adapter for 2.5/3.5" SSD/HDD
StarTech.com USB2SATAIDE USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Combo Adapter for 2.5/3.5" SSD/HDD

Pros: Handy when you need to connect a drive for troubleshooting or set up work.

Cons: Poor design. The SATA power plug is thin and broke easily. Also, the SATA power plug and SATA data plug won't connect to the drive at the same time because there isn't room for them both side by side. The plugs are a bit too big and interfere with each other. The cables are also not well thought out the length and rigidity of them make it so that one will cause the other to com unplugged.

Overall Review: This could be improved greatly if StarTech would actually use their products and realize some things need to be changed.

Update: From bad to worse

ASUS P7F-E ATX Server Motherboard LGA 1156 Intel 3420 w/ Flex-E Technology
ASUS P7F-E ATX Server Motherboard LGA 1156 Intel 3420 w/ Flex-E Technology

Pros: Nice feature set - not too much good to say about these boards at this point.

Cons: Where to start, I'm on my third MB after the first one failed and the second one ASUS sent did not work fully either. Had to spend an hour on the phone most of which was on hold and then to deal with a combative support person. This board was eligible for advanced replacement but they didn't want to honor that a second time even though the second board was faulty too. Finally, after insisting to speak to a manager and waiting on hold again for another 15 minutes they agreed to send an advanced replacement. Got board number 3 a week ago and finally got a chance to tear down my NAS and do the replacement. I've been through this process enough now that all of the cables and connectors are labeled and I can swap the board as fast as Jeff Gordon's pit crew. Results - board number 3 has issues too. Only 1 of the 5 SATA drives enumerated correctly and that one reported an error and the system won't boot. I went through the BIOS to make sure I have the correct version and settings.

Overall Review: Tomorrow after work I get to burn yet another few hours working on this system and giving support yet another call and deal with yet another support rep with a bad attitude. Maybe some day ASUS will get their stuff together but I won't be there to see it. This former ASUS only builder will be looking hard at other MB makers to see who can provide a reliable MB. It won't take much to beat what ASUS has put forth for this project so far which in many ways is almost nil. I don't know what's worse at this point the hardware or the support.
