Pros: Great drive so far...Had mine for for about 3 months with no problems to speak of yet.
Cons: None that I can think of, except that this is a bare bones drive. If you need a cable & screws then you will have to purchase that separately....I found mine at a local mom & pop PC store for near nothing.
Overall Review: This is my 1st New Egg purchase BTY.
USB Problems
Pros: Decent image quality. Media Play function is neat. Speakers better than some.
Cons: Confusing remote. TV picture lags a bit when changing channels. USB quit working. So-so picture quality.
Overall Review: Before you get confused, this TV had good image quality at first, but about five weeks into ownership, the USB port quit working. The repairman replaced the main board, and now the TV image quality looks so-so. The odd thing about this is that the new board did not fix the USB problem. The repairman had to select the reset option inside the service menu to get the USB working again, but evidently, the new board is either bad or needs calibrating because 1080 & 720 content look diminshed compared to before. I called Samsung about the new board image quality, but the rep wanted to blame the problem on me not using an HDMI cable. Which is preposterous, because I have no HDMI components yet. Did the rep not know that you can get a quality Hi-Def signal via RG-6 cable?
Horrible Speed
Pros: Activity light
Cons: I don't have USB 3.0 capability yet, but this thing would not even match USB 2.0 in terms of speed. The best I could get out of it was around 300kbps.
Overall Review: I don't recommend it. Spend more money for a better product.
Terrible
Pros: Nice looking, heavy built unit. LightScribe. AC power supply
Cons: Tended to hang Windows Media Player 11 at times on XP (fresh install by the way). I tried to burn 7 DVD-Rs, and one audio CD, but all were corrupted. No firmware update available.
Overall Review: I tried this unit on two desktop XP computers and wound up with coasters each time. I'm going to try a different brand of discs to see if my old stock (Verbatim, Philips) is possibly bad, but I doubt they are. This makes the third Lite-on unit I have had to preform badly. The other two were of the internal IDE variety. The first one (CD-RW) lasted a few years, and the second unit (DVD-RW) lasted less than two years. I think I am going to upgrade to a more expensive product down the road. I wonder if Denon makes optical drives? ;-)
Quiet
Pros: Installation was a snap. Had to reinstall XP, so no joy there. This drive formatted much quicker than the 5 year old 7200 RPM Seagate I just took out.
Cons: None yet.
Overall Review: Wish I could have cloned the old drive over to the new one, but this BTX board only accommodates one drive. I *am* concerned about the heat issue with this Dell 5100c unit. The factory installed video card sits just below the Seagate, and it keeps the drive temperature between 50 to 53 c. I removed an adjacent PCI slot cover to hopefully allow more air circulation, and I cleaned the entire unit out too, but the heat is still too high for my tastes. I don’t see how the old drive survived under those conditions for 5 years.
It Works
Pros: It works
Cons: None that I can think of.
Overall Review: Did I say it works?
Bad Product
Nothing against the seller, but these enclosures are horrible. The best transfer rates I could accomplish was around 300 KB, and that was uniform with three different machines. I do not have USB 3.0 capability, but even so, I get much better results with flash drives. I don't recommend the product.
Newegg Customer Service Is Horrible
It took nine days for Newegg to respond to my email request for help after placing my order. On top of that, Newegg deliberately hid their customer service phone number during my search for assistance. Newegg is in trouble from what I can gather.
