Most Favorable Review

Solid product but watch that length.

SUPERMICRO CSE-M35T-1B 3 x 5.25" to 5 x 3.5" Hot-swap SATA HDD Trays
SUPERMICRO CSE-M35T-1B 3 x 5.25" to 5 x 3.5" Hot-swap SATA HDD Trays

Pros: Very solid construction, feels much better than some similarly-priced products I have used. Simple setup process. The fan can be removed from the system quite easily and the fan alarm can be disabled with a jumper - my drives are still well within their spec even with no fan and in a relatively small case, so consider it as an option.

Cons: The latching mechanism feels like it takes more force than it should - I was worried I was going to snap a SATA connector off of a drive, though my fear may be unfounded.

Overall Review: This thing is LONG. I actually managed to cram one into an Antec NSK4480 to get more drives, but it took some creative metalwork on the Antec case to make it fit. The issue is that not only is it longer than the average optical drive (which is all most modern tower cases are meant to fit), it's entirely solid whereas there is a small amount of space between two adjacent single-bay optical drives, which will give you room for alignment tabs and internal case bracing. I suspect many average desktop cases will require similar modifications to fit this, but it's well worth it - you get a solid and reliable method to mount a large number of drives in a very small space.

Most Critical Review

Poorly made, pass on it.

Silver Superior Panel
Silver Superior Panel

Pros: Gets all of the ports you need where you want them, and uses one of those pesky external 3.5" bays to do it...

Cons: ...but it's so badly made it's not worth it. CF slot wasn't made carefully so it's easy to misalign a card and bend the pins in the connector, rendering it useless for that task. The plastic internal structure of the USB ports themselves broke after a few months and shorted 5V to ground.

Overall Review: Nice idea, poor execution. Find one that's better made.

Could not be easier

TL-LINK TL-PA210KIT HomePlug AV 200Mbps Mini Powerline Adapter Starter Kit
TL-LINK TL-PA210KIT HomePlug AV 200Mbps Mini Powerline Adapter Starter Kit

Pros: I had been using a couple of wireless routers as a bridged connection to get a wired-only printer online; however, recently one of them started flaking out, and when this went on sale for less than the cost of another router, I decided to give it a shot. Plugged one in to my switch, the other into the printer, and two minutes later they had a solid connection.

Cons: Um...it didn't crawl behind my media center for me to plug itself in? Seriously, I've got nothing here.

Excellent value

MASSCOOL UHB-3231 Aluminum 3.5" Black SATA I/II USB 3.0 External Enclosure
MASSCOOL UHB-3231 Aluminum 3.5" Black SATA I/II USB 3.0 External Enclosure

Pros: Very compact for a 3.5" drive case. Comes with a USB 3.0 cable, a wall wart, and a stand if you want to stick it up vertically. Recognized instantly in Ubuntu 11.10. Performance with the 500GB Western Digital SATA drive I installed into it is the same as if I had put the drive on SATA instead.

Cons: The glossy black finish collects fingerprints like nothing else, but I suspect most 3.5" drives don't get handled that often.

Overall Review: Would've been nice if the adapter had a plug / cord instead of a wall wart, but hey, what can you do?

Excellent case for the money

GIGABYTE GZ-P5HA3W Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case w/ black interior Tower
GIGABYTE GZ-P5HA3W Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case w/ black interior Tower

Pros: I have to seriously wonder what cases the other two reviewers got. Mine arrived to me in good condition, and while I would definitely classify the case as being made of very lightweight thin steel - it's much nicer than the steel of similarly-priced cases, in that it's completely powdercoated on all surfaces. No sharp edges to cut you. It's definitely a tight fit but as far as I can tell it's the only full-ATX case on Newegg with a depth of 15" or less, so some tightness is to be expected. There are a few large passthroughs on the top and front side of the motherboard tray so you can actually run most of your cables behind the tray. The HDD and power-on LEDs are actually far nicer looking than I expected them to be.

Cons: I do wish the case was a tiny bit wider - I have a Xigmatek HDT-S1283, which is a VERY tall heatsink and it is maybe 5mm too tall at the peaks of the tubes to clear (on top of a Biostar T5-XE and an i7 860). I'm actually using the case as a HTPC on its side set back in a media center, so five minutes with a drill press is certainly preferable to finding another heatsink. Expect to spend quite a bit of time with this case making everything fit properly. Nothing wrong with the design, it's just the reality of trying to fit a full ATX board, a HD5770, two optical drives, a huge cooler, and a hard drive into this case. It all fits but it has to go together like a puzzle. If you want a case where you can throw all the components into it in five minutes, you'll need something bigger. The Sapphire HD5770 that just barely fits, so if you have some behemoth card, get a bigger case. Finally, only one of the provided expansion slot covers is replaceable. The rest just snap out permanently

Overall Review: The image Newegg provides with the measurements laid out on it is incorrect. Look at the side view if you're not certain - there's no way this case is deeper than it is tall. It's actually a bit under 14" tall, and a bit under 17" deep. Again, be realistic with this case. This is not going to be made with the nice thick steel or aluminum you'll find in a much higher end case, and it's not going to have huge amounts of room. I ended up mounting my hard drive in one of the 5.25" bays simply because with the video card and location of my SATA ports, all of the hard drive bays were very difficult to access. But it's a full ATX case that's remarkably shallow, and while it's not easy to put together, it's not frustrating either.

Very strong value

Enlight PA420112 Black 0.6mm Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 350W Power Supply
Enlight PA420112 Black 0.6mm Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 350W Power Supply

Pros: Very easy case to work in. Reasonably solid construction - no visual flaws, and not so overbuilt that it weighs a ton. The top and motherboard-side panel are one large piece so you have less external seams. Tool-less drive mounting really is just that - actually tool free! No rails that you still have to screw onto the drive, the cage itself actually locks it in. Trick setup there.

Cons: Power supply isn't as nice as I'd like. In the future if it fails, I'll probably replace it with some form of 80Plus certified PSU from Antec or Seasonic. No instructions, which was annoying when trying to figure out how to get the front panel off (turns out you don't need to remove the left side, which is good because you need to remove the front panel to take the left side off!) Wires for the front panel buttons/LEDs were oddly stiff. I had a hard time keeping them connected to the header on a Gigabyte P55M-UD2.

Overall Review: Overall a very solid buy, you can do a lot worse - but for the money you won't do much better.
