Response To No Rebate

Pros: Excellent product that works as advertised. I got the $50 rebate offered in March, 2007.
Cons: Had to apply for the $50 rebate offered in March, 2007.
Overall Review: I have a love/hate relationship with rebates. They are undoubtedly a ridiculous way to reduce the price of the product and manufacturers bank on the fact they only payout about half the time. Some fraudulently reject applications for any reason. I purchased this RAM on March 10, 2007 [just before DDR2 prices crashed through the floor] and paid a little over two Benjamin’s with a $50 Patriot rebate. I got the rebate on May 9, 2007. It was not clear which label was “the original UPC found on the memory product packaging” so I included both. I would dog Patriot directly to find out why your rebate(s) were rejected. Their manufacturing facility is located in Fremont, California USA, the phone number is 510-979-1021.
Eagle Rebates -- Feelin Lucky Punk?

Pros: Whoever owns Eagle is surely going to Hades.
Cons: The rebate may never arrive. I purchased the 2.5” enclosure in August, 2007 and 12 weeks later have not received the $14 rebate. Yes, they want 12 weeks to process the rebate, the question is why? There is absolutely no rational explanation for a three to four month time frame to cut a check. They do not intend to pay out more than half of these, just enough to maintain plausible doubt in the minds of potential “Free After Rebate” customers.
Overall Review: I buy a lot of stuff with rebates and have about a 98% success rate. This one gives me a queasy feeling.
Typical high quality MS hardware

Pros: The curve is perfect, comfortable without being noticeable like the awkward “natural” keyboard layout. Keystrokes are quiet with just enough resistance.
Cons: The USB cord is now the standard 60 inches. I prefer the 78 inch cord that the old MS Internet Keyboard has -- you never had to worry about tower placement.
Overall Review: I’ve come full circle with keyboards, buying this one to replace an L-tech Bluetooth MX that died mysteriously after two years. Unlike a mouse, a wire running to the keyboard doesn’t bother me and replacing batteries, even every three or four months is a hassle. The numbers keypad is a must, basic keyboarding without the fluff you never use anyway.
Forget The Rebate

Pros: Snappy drive, feels fast.
Cons: You can hear it. Not the end of the world especially in a gaming rig.
Overall Review: Western Digital offered a $30 rebate on the drive I purchased here July 13, 2006. It finally arrived January 12, 2007 and only after a follow up phone call to WD. Most people will not be that vigilant and I don't think Western Digital plans on paying a majority of these rebates.
Inexpensive Fix

Pros: Upgraded from a hosed Socket A +2800 and nforce2 motherboard. No need to reinstall Windows XP. Simply uninstall the nVidia drivers [reboot] let windows install the generic MB drivers, then run the nforce3 drivers from the CD.
Cons: Not sure I should pin this on the hardware, but I’m having a problem with the system hard crashing after about an hour of gameplay. Tried a different vid card; it passed the M$ memory diagnostic; temps and power supply all good, using a decent NIC card with the onboard LAN disabled in BIOS…haven’t figured it out yet.
Overall Review: Biostar is nobody’s choice for a high end MB, but as a combo deal for less than a honey bee you can’t complain. Don’t worry about buying dated equipment, it’s more than enough for most app’s and you’re just renting the stuff—it’s all obsolete in two years anyway.
