Excellect Product
Pros: I've ordered at least five of these in the past year: - No boards were DOA - No boards have died in the past 6-12 months - PCIe 3.0 x16 - XMP - 4 USB3 ports with the front connector - UEFI BIOS - Micro-ATX - Realtek audio (I loathe conexant) - Most important --- The right price!
Cons: - As mentioned before, the overclocking options aren't exactly power user friendly, but this board really isn't intended for that purpose (seriously... it's LGA1155... pick a different socket if you want more), although you have the CPU turbo mode. - I purchased DDR3 2400 memory on one machine because it says it supports it... you have no control over this manually. Although the memory speed in the BIOS will say 1600, you'll need to select an XMP profile in order to achieve the faster speeds. Irritating, but no biggy. Would like the BIOS would indicate that it's 1600 overclocked to 2400 via XMP. - C'mon MSI... all your boards need to support both SLI and Xfire, not just either/or. This is the only feature that was done sloppily on this board. - None of these "cons" are any reason to dock this board an egg. It is rock solid, tried and true.
Overall Review: - I understand the number of 6Gb/s SATA connectors is limited by the chipset, but I'd like to see ALL the SATA connectors be 6Gb/s as they're backward compatible with the 3Gb/s. - Would like the USB3 front panel connector and the SATA connectors to switch places on the board, which would make the board easier to fit into the smaller form factor chassis, but now I'm just being picky. - Really this board's great. if you're contemplating it, stop and just buy it. Good solid board. - The UEFI BIOS is definitely a leap forward in the right direction for PCs... now if we could just get elaborate descriptions on all the settings and what exactly they did and how to tweak it. - Having worked with nearly every motherboard manufacturer's support over the past 15 years, I would say MSI's is probably the best (which isn't saying much, but at least you'll get someone [who might speak some English] who can help you out if you should need a replacement). I was buying Intel boards, but now that Intel will no longer be making boards, I only buy MSI boards at this point.
Stay Away!
Pros: - 5 Year Warranty - 4TB - 7200RPM
Cons: - 1 DOA - Could cook an egg on the other
Overall Review: I ordered two of these drives for a 2U mail server that sits in a datacenter... one was simply to mirror the other. One drive was dead on arrival.... it happens no biggy, thats what returns are for and why I love newegg [and WD]. But the other drive got so hot I couldn't touch it. It heated up all the other components in the case to a ridiculous temperature (like you could cook an egg on it hot!). This is with a dedicated 80mm fan to cool the drive. I immediately returned both drives and resorted to two velociraptor 1TB 2.5" drives which are cold to touch in the same setup. We'll add more drives as needed. I will only buy WD drives and these are hands down the worst I've ever owned in 15 years. STAY AWAY!
Padoogi
Pros: I recently purchased an MSI x99 board which promised this awesome audio with the Realtek driver. The digital didn't work at all (crackling) and the analog was just meh. Finally dug deep and spent the last of my cash on this. Totally well worth it! It took me some time to learn all the controls associated to manipulate Windows, VLC, games, etc... Specifically, switching between the headset breakout and my Z5500 wasn't as easy as I thought, but now that I know the process it'll soon be second nature. The sound is AMAZING! Didn't know I could get my ATH-PRO700 headphones to sound any better... and ummm... they do.
Cons: If you're used to out-of-the-box audio that just plugs in and does it's thing, there's a small learning curve associated with this purchase.
Overall Review: If you're on the fence with buying this, go ahead and make the plunge.
Works As Advertised
Pros: - It's Kingston (how could you go wrong?) - Works as advertised - Excellent Warranty - Ummmm... FAST!
Cons: -None
Overall Review: I purchased 32GB of this for an ASRock X99 board that had it in the list of compatible memory. The ASRock board was DOA (reboot cycle on both BIOS), which turned out to be third ASRock board in a year that died, so I'm done with ASRock. Picked up an MSI board and the thing works like a champ! And even this memory isn't on the list of supported memory for the MSI board, it took some tweaking with the overclock [because the memory is overclocked too], but the MSI board hasn't had a problem with it. LOVE Kingston Memory.
Beveled
Pros: - Beautiful, simple, quality construction - Sound dampening - Cable management - No windows... all utility
Cons: The motherboard tray is beveled (it is flat on most other chassis), which was obviously by design for the cable management on the opposite side. The problem with this is that on many [all x99] boards, the SATA connectors are angled to the side of the board and stacked in twos. This case effectively eliminates use of the bottom five of the ten SATA connections. Fortunately, thanks to M.2, I'm only using one SATA connector, but this is clearly an oversight that a builder with many SATA drives using this chassis needs to be conscious of.
Overall Review: I'm not overly fond of how the hard drives require the utility of BOTH side doors... one to mount the drive (which is super easy) and the other side for the connection/power. I don't change out my drives all that often so no biggie. I'm also a little uneasy about the buttons in the back to take off the side doors. Seems to me they won't stand the test of time. Would be nice if there were your typical two screw holes for each side in the rear as a backup. Others have mentioned how the front door is a little goofy, but not a deal breaker.
No Tilt!
Pros: What everyone else has said... a darn fine piece of hardware.
Cons: 70 hard earned dollars and NO TILT WHEEL?!?!?! I cried putting it back in the package, pulled it out of the box to make sure, played with it a little, and out of frustration succumbed to my Emotional Dysfunction.
Overall Review: I Seriously thought I had finally found the perfect mouse. Simple, but powerful, and few of the stupid extra buttons to get in the way. But no tilt wheel is a deal-breaker. Yes, gaming with this mouse is exceptional, but simple tasks such as surfing the web, without a tilt wheel, is like staring at the blinking lights of my modem when the internet fails. I'm devastated. Back to buying the cheap Logitech that dies annually. Get me a tilt wheel and I'll take five.
