Great little tool

StarTech.com PATA2SATA3 Bi-directional adapter converts IDE to SATA or SATA to IDE
StarTech.com PATA2SATA3 Bi-directional adapter converts IDE to SATA or SATA to IDE

Pros: Versatile: plug an IDE (aka PATA) drive into your SATA mobo, or a SATA drive into your IDE mobo

Cons: For the latter (SATA into IDE mobo connector), it means only 1 drive instead of 2.

Overall Review: Wish it had an IDE gender changer so it could plug into an IDE connector on the cable, instead of having to remove the cable and plug into the mobo IDE connector, losing BOTH devices. If you have 2 HDs & 2 CD/DVDs, you'll need to decide which to keep, possibly rejumper or use HD & DVD on same cable, slowing HD down. Also, remember that a SATA drive plugged into this device will be running at IDE (OK, UDMA at best) speeds, and an IDE plugged in here to a STA port, still can't go faster than IDE speeds (SATA II is 3Gbps, UDMA is rarely over 0.133Gbps)

Is it Going Bad?

ADATA 32GB UV128 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Flash Drive (AUV128-32G-RBE)
ADATA 32GB UV128 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Flash Drive (AUV128-32G-RBE)

Pros: Price and size are right

Cons: Not sure yet ...

Overall Review: I've had it 2 months today. Plugged it in and it wasn't recognized. Tried another port, no better. Tried it in another computer & I was able to read the data. Back to the first computer & it started to copy the data, then quit. After awhile the sys tray notified me that a new device was recognized. I eventually copied all the data. Is it the computer or the AData? If the latter, it's out of warranty. Hope it's neither the thumb drive nor the computer.

Really Hot Thumbdrive

SanDisk 128GB Ultra Fit CZ43 USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Up to150MB/s (SDCZ43-128G-G46) [Old Version]
SanDisk 128GB Ultra Fit CZ43 USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Up to150MB/s (SDCZ43-128G-G46) [Old Version]

Pros: Seems to work regardless of the heat - so far. Good price for such a large-memory drive, in such a small package. Because of cons, I've put no data on it yet - but it's nice to know that I could protect so much data using the internal encryption software.

Cons: Overheats. Just plugging it in in gets so hot it almost burns. A drive using only memory can get hot, but this much heat will burn the drive out before long.

Overall Review: Has anybody else had this problem? It is not strictly physical: if I tell the OS to stop the USB drive and it tells me I can remove it, but I don't, the temp goes back to normal temperature.

Good TWC Cable Modem

ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 8x4 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem
ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 8x4 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem

Pros: Invisible: it even sits behind the other TWC cable/phone modem and I've only once turned them both off and restarted them - who knows which caused the hiccup.

Cons: None with an effect on me. So far, though rumors are that after the buy out it may be different.

Overall Review: I have TWC phone & Internet. That means I was leasing their modem that I had to reset (turn off, wait 20 seconds, turn back on) often. Bought this SB6141 on advise from several sources for my internet connection. Needed extra cable to go to the new modem, and splitter to use both. No problem following online directions on calling TWC with modem IDs. A few weeks later our phone died. Called TWC, they came out & (eventually) replaced their modem with a TG1672. No battery! (Had to buy one online.) As stated above, since that time I've only restarted the 'modems' once instead of often. If you are buying this to replace the leased modem from your cable company, be sure to follow your cable company's instructions to use them - I've had various clients who DIY and within hours, days, or even weeks, lose their service; in the meantime they were still paying for the company's modem - even though in some cases they'd taken it in. Getting things fixed up usually isn't all that hard, but it may take several phone calls and being sent to supervisors, and lots of hold time, to get your money returned. Follow the directions first and save yourself some hassle.

Nice

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL

Pros: Worked with no intervention. Fast. Tested it for a few days with Memtest86+ and with MemTest for Windows and it works as it should: perfectly with no errors.

Cons: None yet

Overall Review: I read over all the reviews first. Chose this one and am pleased.

Affordable SATA dock

Thermaltake BlacX 5G ST0019U ABS Plastic 2.5" & 3.5" Black SATA I/II/III USB 3.0 Docking Station
Thermaltake BlacX 5G ST0019U ABS Plastic 2.5" & 3.5" Black SATA I/II/III USB 3.0 Docking Station

Pros: Very useful

Cons: Picky

Overall Review: I've tested it on several computers, home, school, and work. It usually works just fine. Why certain drives don't want to work in it is still unknown (only had it a month). Maybe I'll eventually have time to test why some drives don't seem to work & others do: if so I'll do another review. I really like it because it is so convenient. I've had no trouble using it with USB 3 or USB 2 (obviously way slower). Wish it had both eSATA III & USB 3.
