Pros: This laptop is awesome, feature for feature its hard to find better specs at the prices that Eluktronics offer, believe me I tried. shipping was FAST. I selected the standard shipping option 3-5 business days which was free. I ordered it Tuesday evening, and it arrived Thursday afternoon. It was very well packaged as well. On the outside it has a very plain but somewhat elegant look to it - which I love. It feels well made overall minus one small issue noted in the cons. The hinges for the screen are very sturdy and the screen doesn't have any wobbling when typing. The keyboard is very comfortable for typing and for gaming. FULL sized arrow keys are a plus - not sure why it bothers me so much that so many companies have the up and down merged to be the size of one standard key. Also a full sized number pad which is easy to use. The screen looks great, all the colors are crisp with everything I do - couldn't be happier with it as far as a laptop screen goes. The processor is great, an actual 4 core processor, not one of the U low voltage dual core processors. I plan on using this machine for word processing, watching netflix/youtube, and doing some light gaming. I also travel a few times a year for work, and it will be my go to solution for everything while I'm away from home. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast this thing is for everything I need from it. The SSD loads the OS up in just a few seconds, and everything i open or do is nearly instant. As far as gaming goes I mainly play World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Overwatch, Planetside 2. All of those games play on the same settings i use on my gaming desktop( just about everything maxed) without any issues and framerates have never dropped below 50. The CPU never seems to heat up and the fans stay pretty low on it. The GPU gets a little hot and the fan throttles up to be a little loud, but its definitely not too loud. Always use some sort of a cooling pad when gaming though. The price is great for what you get here. If its on sale its pretty much a steal.
Cons: Fingerprint reader didn't work when I set up windows 10. I've never used one before and I only tried it one time before i hit skip, so I'm sure it was probably user error. I don't plan on using it anyways as I prefer a password or a PIN and that feature isn't why i made the purchase so it makes no difference to me. When the laptop sits on a flat surface, the bottom left corner seems to not quite sit right. If i apply pressure to the outer part of the corner it has a just a tiny bit of a bend/give to it. Not really a big deal I'm pretty literally nitpicking, and doesn't affect the functionality. Thats where the disk drive is and it works fine even with the little bit of wobble. Also, it doesn't have any give to it when my wrist is resting on it i sorta had to try to make it happen - something I do with all new laptops i buy when i first set them down on a desk. Battery life is ok, but its meant to be a gaming laptop so I think we all know what we're in for as far as that goes. pretty much has to be plugged in for gaming sessions - as they all do.
Overall Review: Eluktronics was a company I had not heard anything about, so at first when browsing for a new laptop I was skeptical. I did a little bit of research and found that the company itself has some good reviews. While researching the company, I found that the owner of the company seems to be active in answering questions or responding to posts about them on various sites like reddit. I like that he seemed to be involved because he genuinely cared - He offers a pretty realistic comparison for what he offers vs the competition. Also, systems from Eluktronics ship with a fresh windows 10 installation - which is awesome since there's no bloatware to remove or anything to worry about other than the fact that windows 10 itself sucks. I emailed their sales team around 9PM with a question regarding whether they ship a windows disk and key - since a lot of the laptops you buy have a build in recover system that has failed me before and I had no way to fix it without those. About 10 minutes later I received a friendly response from their team letting me know it does indeed come with a windows 10 installation disk and a product key, as well as answering some other generic questions. I was impressed with the fast friendly response. I purchased 2 of these machines - one for me and one for my son who's 13 - Overall I'm very happy with the purchase, will be buying from them in the future as long as their prices stay competitive. Will also be recommending to anyone I come across looking for a good gaming laptop at a fair price. Will update this review if anything happens down the road.
Cons: Arrived and was REALLY slow, lasted about 4 hours ( the amount of time it took to install windows 7 on it ) then died. Not recognized by windows or able to view as a slave drive when booting Knoppix/Ubuntu on another computer.
Overall Review: Newegg took the RMA for me and they were out of stock so a refund was issued and I bought an OCZ Vertex. 5 eggs for Newegg, as always.
Pros: I have a raspberry pi 4 that I use for emulation and as a htpc. Got this to see if it would work any better since the gpu is stronger, and it's WAY better. I installed the OS from nvidia, and am using it more like a desktop for browsing the internet and video playback like youtube and from my home server, it works great for that. I haven't had any noticable dropped frames on anything I've watched and it runs really smooth inna desktop environment.
Overall Review: I use twister is for the raspi 4. I would prefer to try some different debian linux than the one nvidia has for it, but haven't tinkered since it runs so smooth. Get a high endurance sd card for the os if your going to use it like a desktop. They tend to last, and aren't any slower.
Pros: Worked plug n play on a windows 10 pc.
Cons: None I can really think of.
Overall Review: Using it for an xbox controller and sometimes for a keyboard in the living room. Seems to work fine, windows picked it up right away and I can connect devices without any proprietary software. Seems to work much better than the microsoft adapter for xbox controllers. The microsoft connector needed to be synced every time I wanted to use it, this one stays connected.
Pros: Affordable. Works alright. Looks nice. I've had worse budget mice.
Cons: The description says backlit, but it is not. Didn't look carefully enough before buying. The keys on the keyboard are quite mushy. They feel almost sticky. There's a mush to press down with a long travel time to fully press, then they don't feel like they spring up very well.
Overall Review: It's a reasonable keyboard and mouse combo, and it looks nice. They are both on the same receiver which is great. I was going to use it for my secondary pc at my desk, but I've switched it to my server/htpc in the basement which isn't used too much.
