Great Case, Fantastic Build Quality

Fractal Design Define R4 Blackout Silent ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Fractal Design Define R4 Blackout Silent ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: I purchased this case looking for something as a reasonably quiet NAS system. My goal was something with muted looks and lots of features. This case fit the bill better than many of the other cases I have seen during my shopping around. The included fans are whisper quiet. The HDD tray can adjust position to increase airflow, or to accommodate extra large video cards. The steel is rolled to prevent any sharp edges. The included sound deadening material feels high quality. The case is fantastic. I have seen cases for twice the price I paid for this one who feel and function much cheaper than the Blackout. I am seriously impressed.

Cons: The biggest thing I consider a con is the LED that circles the power button. It is the brightest white LED I have ever seen. The LED can illuminate the entire room without any other lights on. There are no other LEDs in the unit so I have to use it if I want an activity indicator or a power indicator. I ended up covering most of it with electrical tape it was so offensive compared to the black on black state of the rest of the case

Overall Review: I am supremely happy with the purchase of this case.

Most Critical Review

High hopes, less than stellar results.

Intel 7260HMWDTX1 Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 PCIe plus Bluetooth 4.0 AC1200 Wireless adapters
Intel 7260HMWDTX1 Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 PCIe plus Bluetooth 4.0 AC1200 Wireless adapters

Pros: The installation was fairly simple. There was plenty of notice about the Bluetooth pin issue which was simple to resolve. The build quality is excellent. The antenna is built well.

Cons: Stressing the card for an extended period of time resulted in a drop of connectivity to the network it was associated with. This drop in connectivity does not seem to be prompted by specific tasks. I can reproduce it with large software downloads or heavy video streaming. The behavior is displayed simply as a complete stop in traffic. You can still ping the loopback address, however any other network resources are unreachable. There are no errors generated in Windows, or errors in the ProSet utility. The solution to the issue is as simple as disabling the adapter and immediately re-enabling it. This behavior is incredibly inconvenient as no other network adapters attached to my network experience issues similar. I have tried multiple versions of the ProSet utility and driver versions to no avail. There also seems to be no way in software to force G or N or AC. This seems a bit silly. Current version of the utility/driver is 17.0.3.0/17.0.3.2

Overall Review: Lite network traffic does not seem to affect the card, it does not produce the lack in connectivity. However simply watching a 1080P stream from YouTube can cause the issues. This is very inconvenient and frankly unexpected as all the other Intel products from network cards to SSDs I have purchased in the past have functioned flawlessly. Win 7 Pro x64 ProSet 17.0.3.0 Connected to a DLINK DIR-655 in either G or N. As of this writing the connection speed is "Excellent" at 117Mbps and the AP Signal Str is -61dBm.

Great little e-Reader

Oaxis E-book Reader XpringBook T6L, 6'' E-ink panel, 4GB Flash, WIFI, touch panel, Front light, support Multi-language, 2000mah battery

Pros: This little unit does practically everything. The text on the interface is clear and very easy to read. The interface is intuitive and simple to navigate. The battery life is great just as advertised. I have yet to have to charge the unit after I first charged it to 100%, even with my reading habits. I tend to read for something like 3-5 hours a week. At the time of this writing I have owned the unit for 30 days. The unit is light in the hand and simple to navigate with one hand as well. The backing of the unit is slightly grippy and not slick so it is easy to hold onto.

Cons: I have one small gripe about the unit. The firmware that shipped with the unit (Build 1.0.9) seems to have only support for GMT +8 China Standard Time. So when it automatically fetches the time, it will be incorrect for any other time zone. I have confirmed with the manufacturer that this is not correctable with the current build. It is easy enough to set the time manually, however, I still feel this was an oversight.

Overall Review: At the time I ordered the unit, there was only one review and it was negative. Something about debris under the screen... I do not have this issue with my unit and could not be happier with the build quality. Another note. The manufacturers site at the time of this writing has many spelling and grammar errors for the English site. Also, the interactions with the support personnel appear to be poor quality English. Very likely though Google Translate or something similar. However, they appear very helpful.
