PC Power & Cooling ModXStream Pro Series 500 Watt 80+ Semi-Modular Active PFC Performance Grade ATX PC Power Supply (OCZ500MXSP)

Pros: No issues.

Cons: Rebate hassles. This review is more just a rant, so please bear with.

Overall Review: Went to use my rebate card today, a prepaid Citi Visa card. Come to find out nearly all the amount was already used at some beauty supply shop in some town in GA. I live in WA. I even think the charge was made before I received the card. Still need to confirm. When I finally got the card in the mail, it went straight into my wallet. Tried to use it today and it only has a buck-oh-something on the balance. Real niiiice. I never put the card information out on the internets, so looks like Citi has some internal fraud going on. Why can't we just get a friggin' check in the mail like the old days. I can friggin' cash a check. I can use the entire balance, and not have a card with a buck-oh-five left on it that I'll just throw away. Sigh. Now I get to file a fraud case with Citi and wait another 2-3 months to hopefully receive my pittance of a rebate. Consider carefully whether its worth it to save a few bucks on something that gives you a poopy stab at a rebate.

Just OK

MASSCOOL MP-1368AS 3.5" Black IDE / SATA USB 2.0 hard drive media player
MASSCOOL MP-1368AS 3.5" Black IDE / SATA USB 2.0 hard drive media player

Pros: Does what it says it does, pretty much.

Cons: After owning a week, I returned to Newegg for a refund , minus the restocking fee :-( 1. As a previous reviewer stated, it comes setup in PAL. To get to NTSC you have to try and figure out where the 'cursor' is at on the screen while its rolling. Once you figure this out and the NTSC is highlighted, hit the 'Setup' button again, not the 'Enter' button. This took me 10-15 mins of frustration to figure out. 2) My unit would flicker between color and b/w out of the box. Tried different cables, hooked up to a different TV, still did it. It eventually settled down, but would occasionally do this. Had to power down/up the unit to fix it. Even went to b/w during the middle of a movie. Ugh. 3) Doesn't play .MP4 files, at least not for me. 4) Few of my .avi files had poor color saturation while playing from unit, but playing from my PC to TV they are fine.

Overall Review: I really love the idea of this type of product. There are lots out there, but this was in my price range and I liked the audio outs it provides. Plays files from a flash drive connected to USB, which is nice, but I was hoping I could transfer files this way, but no. Have to move it over to the PC and hookup to transfer. Not a knock on the unit as it didn't say it could do that. Not sure if other players can do this or not, but its a feature I'd like to have. I now have a 500GB sata drive loaded with files that's lonely; will have to keep shopping.

I'm baaaack. And its still aaaawesome!

Pros: Not to toot my own horn (other than a little), but I wrote THE first Newegg review for this baby last November. It's still rocking, and I'm still loving it. This device came along at the right time for me, and its been doing its job ever since. For what it does, for the price, it just can't be beat.

Cons: Doesn't support DTS or AAC, although it will still play very well in 2.0 if you select 'Stereo' for the audio setting. My receiver does DTS, so I can get the 5.1 there, but my receiver does not support AAC, so I have to convert most of my .mkv files to AC3 (I use mkv2vob) if I wanna get the 5.1 sound. Wish it supported AAC. Really, though, its not that big of a deal. Like I said, for the price....

Overall Review: Why the heck haven't I gotten another one already? If anyone has any questions, check out wdtvforum.com. Has all your answers. Peace out!

Hiper Group. Do they exist anymore?

HIPER Type M HPU-4M630 630W Continuous @ 40°C

HIPER Type M HPU-4M630 630W Continuous @ 40°C (Maximum Continuous Peak: 870W) ATX12V V2.2 & EPS12V V2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: This review is not for this PSU, but Hiper Group in general.

Cons: This review is to reiterate what others are saying. Stay away from Hiper. I recently RMA'd one I bought 2 1/2 years ago (yes, it lasted that long!) but is still covered under their 3yr warranty. A couple of emails to Elite USA, where you ship the unit to, went unanswered. I finally got a call after my 3rd email, and was told Hiper USA is no longer in business; their office(s) is closed. As in they are out of business. Was told I could have the bad PSU returned to me, or try contacting the UK office of Hiper to see what they can do. So far my emails to UK Hiper have gone unanswered. Imagine that.

Overall Review: Here's an email I recently received from Elite USA: "To Mr. John xxxxxxx Elite USA Inc. is a receiving/storage warehouse for Hiper Group, Elite USA Inc. does not process, repair, sale, represent Hiper Group in any shape or form. Hiper handles their own RMA shipping to their factory for repair. This is to notify you that we have received a shipment of Power Supply on 07-21-09 from you. After numerous attempts to contact Hiper for instruction and received no response, Elite USA Inc.would like to return the shipment to you via UPS ground collect, unless you instruct us otherwise by August 15, 2009 . " Great. They want me to pay to have it shipped back to me. And check out the 'Warranty' link on the Hiper webiste. It used to have warranty info and how to get an RMA. Now it just gets you a 404 error. D-Yikes! Please contact Hiper Group directly if you have any issue with their product or service.

I recently RMA'd one I bought 2 1/2 years ago (yes, it lasted that long!) but is still covered under their 3yr warranty. A couple of emails to Elite USA, who apparently covers the repair service in the US, went unanswered. I finally got a call today after my 3rd email, and was told Elite Group is no longer in business; their office(s) is closed. As in they are out of business. Was told I could have the bad PSU returned to me, or try contacting the UK office of Hiper to see what they can do. Not holding my breath.

Overall Review: Check out the 'RMA' link on Hiper Group website. You get a 404 error. Yikes!!

Give this a Serious look!

Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player WDAVN00BN
Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player WDAVN00BN

Pros: Now THIS is what I've been looking for in a media player, at the right price! I had previously purchased a different media player that didn't live up to my expectations. All I can say is give this puppy a serious look. Its newly on the market and plays my movie files beautifully. I could go on and on about it, but if you visit a couple of sites, they'll explain more about what this can and cannot do. Maddhat dot com gives a good in depth review. forum dot videohelp dot com also has a good thread going, just search for the model number. 1. HDMI output, Toslink optical audio out. 2. Two USB 2.0 ports (one is on the side, the pictures don't show that 3. Smallish remote, but it works fine and all the buttons actually do something, compared to the other Media player I had ordered and returned cause it sucked. 4. Firmware upgrade capability. But none yet available since its so new. 5. LOTS of options available for setup of video/audio/picture viewing. Does slideshows.

Cons: 1. Mine didn't come with a manual (maybe I didn't look hard enough in the box?). But go to WD website and you can download the manual. Its actually very good and quite extensive with detailed info on all the features.

Overall Review: 1. Check out other websites for reviews, and check out WD manual online. This should cinch the deal for you if you're looking for an inexpensive MP. 2. Now I don't have to build a HTPC just to play my ripped and downloaded movies! That money is now going towards my new plasma TV! 3. Got it at a B&M store for just under a benjamin. But regardless of price, buy it, you won't be disappointed. 4. Ummm...this puppy is small, check out the dimensions. It basically fits in the palm of your hand. 5. The remote has an 'eject' button, which will allow you to shut down your USB device (if you have 2 connected, it will let you select either one) before you disconnect it. This is actually pretty handy. 6. Okay, so I'm ranting. I'm very happy with this product. Does more than I'll probably ever use it for. Packed with features, does the job very well. I love it. 'Nuff said.
