Easy Setup, Almost Does What it Claims
Pros: Price with Plex 15% discount at the time Works right out of the box Upgradeable, but voids warranty Excellent Plex server with up to 1080p H.265 transcoding Sometimes easy user interface Cloud storage of photos/videos appears to work well but I haven't fully explored this High quality construction
Cons: ios installation failed half way through but didn't tell me leading to much lost time Not powerful enough, out-of-the-box, to transcode my 4K material in Plex to other formats such as Fire TV, phones, and tablets Multiple user interfaces, including Windows app, but each has faults and limitations. Use the web interface.
Overall Review: Since my unit wouldn't do the claimed 4K transcoding for Plex I chose to replace the processor and memory. Now it runs 50% faster, does the job, but has no warranty. Overall this was an expensive way to handle the need for a Plex server, but I haven't regretted separating my video editing machine from my Plex server.
Memory Works Great, DHL Shipping Not So Much
Pros: Price with discount code was better than smile company Came well packaged Worked great in a QNAP NAS which was technically not upgradeable
Cons: DHL to USPS handoff took several days for 10 days total shipping, estimates off each time, sites disagreed on handoff time Doesn't really improve NAS performance as CPU was the only bottle neck
Overall Review: Overall a reminder of why I don't Newegg anymore. I guess to compete with smile on free shipping, you have to use carriers that really shouldn't charge anything.
Excellent Budget UHD/4K Video Card, but not for Hisense
Pros: Price H.265 hardware encoding Quiet Extremely easy setup Plays 4K videos very well with standard "Movies and TV" player in Windows 10
Cons: Does not recognize native 2160p support on my Hisense TV (shame on both) Intolerable mouse lag on any resolution that isn't 1920 x 1080
Overall Review: After rebate and free game, this video card is basically < 100 USD. Unfortunately, most of the time it can't be used as a 4K video card due to the mouse lag issue. No amount of Logitech tinkering can make it track, not even 1000 Hz polling! I'm not a gamer, but in a brief experiment with Bombshell, it performed very well.
Charger works, power supply not so much.
Pros: Qi charger for peanuts compared to orb and others Medium size pad with decent sweet spot for Nexus 7 2 Clear indication of standby vs charge Came with long micro USB cable Uses standard micro USB as power source
Cons: Had unnecessary adapter for Euro male to US 2 prong male thrown in last sec and pretty beat up Had multi voltage power supply that burned up within a couple minutes
Overall Review: I don't know how long it will last, but this has been a good experiment so far in buying a Qi charger for 1/3 going rate.
Slick and Powerful...with a hitch
Pros: Technically powerful enough to run my 53" HDTV for 20 minutes! Came almost fully charged Nice case design and only twice as thick as a smart phone No A/C adapter needed to charge (micro USB in and USB out...simple) Can charge itself faster than stated with tablet charger
Cons: Does not charge my beloved ASUS Slider (neither will iPad charger or high power car charger) Unnecessary split into 1A and 2A ports. There is no reason for a 1A port. Devices draw only what they require.
Overall Review: It says max input is 1A which would take 10 hours to charge. I plugged it into the massive ASUS supply and it seemed to go a lot faster. However, I am forced to take an egg because it won't charge the main device for which I bought it. An emergency battery should come with whatever adapters are needed to charge anything USB. Many people would pay the difference to be Hurricane ready.
Great so far
Pros: No formatting necessary, I could use it right out of the box Took my massive iTunes collection including videos without a hitch No lag on accessing music/videos through DoubleTwist It's tiny! Adapter for full size SD slots Made my 16 gig tablet into an 75 (actual) gig tablet
Cons: Formatted with exFAT so you lose 5 gig right away. Blister pack packaging requiring powerful scissors to open Price point at nearly a dollar/gig is very high
Overall Review: I could have reformatted it to NTFS to reduce the overhead gigs lost, but I would lose a lot of compatibility with other devices.
Slow shipping!!!
I'm giving three stars because the tablet eventually arrived and was not broken. It took several days for the seller to mark the package as "shipped" and after three days of UPS saying they had billing info but no actual package, I contacted Newegg. Apparently they prodded the seller and the package went out in 24 hours after that. Basically it took about 3 times as long as typical Newegg shipping. This is my first "Marketplace" purchase and I'm not impressed. Marking a package as shipped and sitting on it for three days is fraud guys and there is no excuse.
