Good Fast RAID card

Pros: Fast and cost effective RAID card. I am running a RAID 6 configuration with BBU and 8 SATA 1 TB Samsung RAID drives in a SANS DIGITAL TR8X-B 8 Bay SAS torage enclosure with Windows 2008 Storage server on a ASUS P5Q mobo. 120+ MB/sec sustained Write and 360/sec sustained read (large file copy). I use it as an iSCSI traget for a development and test environment and the 1 GB ethernet is saturated before the drive IO is maxed out. Had to replace 2 drives in the array over time, rebuild without any hitch. The web based monitoring and configuration interface provides sufficient information on drive and array status.
Cons: No integration with general monitoring tools.
Overall Review: RAID cards in general can be tricky. Do your homework and check mobo compatibility and know your bios and OS settings. I had over time several 3ware and highpoint RAID cards. In general 3ware tended to be less problematic with certain boards und beat Highpoint support. But this card in a compatible configuration rocks.
Severe issues do not buy

Pros: The device has everything one would want from a remote office VPN router.
Cons: It does not work as advertised. 4 hours of troubleshooting 2 of which with Cisco tech support confirmed the device has a known issue with Cisco internal BugID CSCus36164. Getting a hold of Cisco tech support was a project in itself. Finally I got to an agent and it took him two hours to find the internal bug report on the issue that already existed. He needed handholding and steering all the way and saving from his own confusions. In any case the tech confirmed there is no ETA for a bug fix, which renders the device useless. The bug means you cannot have two VPN tunnels to a remote subnet that starts with "10.nnn.nnn.nnn". With no ETA for a fix in sight this device should not even be sold any longer, as it is known to Cisco that it is in key areas not conforming to the advertised product features.
Overall Review: The device has other issue like the web interface becoming unresponisve at times and being generally sluggish in response. Many reboots required during configuration. For the price this would be acceptable although other Vendors like TP-link show it can be done a lot better. Stay away from this device and save yourself some grief.
robust and durable

Pros: does exactly what it needs to do.
Cons: none
Nice low end iSCSI storage

Pros: Complete iSCSI SAN features for low end SAN devices. Initial test confirms 190 MB/s are possible with either Link Aggregation or MCS/MPIO and load balancing across two 1 Gb ethernet connections using RAID 5 with 8 x Seagate enterprise 2 TB SATA 2 drives.
Cons: The system would have 5 eggs if the manufacturer would stand by its manual. On the shipping firmware revision snapshot functionality is not available, despite the fact the user manual from their website decsribes it in detail. Bummer. To get a clear answer from tech support on this issue is like pulling teeth. They are polite and nice but really have no hard facts if a backlevel firmware would support snapshots, or why it was removed.
Overall Review: I would not neccessarily bet my small business on this as my backbone SAN, and spend some more money on a dual controller device. But this is a great device for lab environemnts or near disk backup storage or other non mission critical data.
Nice product, bad Tech support

Pros: The divice has many features you often only find on much higher priced devices.
Cons: Linksys tech support is a bad joke. I contacted them several times with different issues always with the same result. The agents are completely clueless and give often even destructive advice. Unbelieveable that Linksys lets this going on.
Overall Review: If you need help on configuration items search Google you may find answers there more likely than from Linksys tech support.
DOA
Pros: good price
Cons: I have a Raid 5 array with 4 of these drives which was running fine for about 2 years. 2 of which failed within a few wekks and were replaeced under warranty. When I ordered 2 additional drives from Newegg both were DOA, not even registering on the SATA controller. So out of 6 drives, 4 failed, 2 after 2 years and 2 DOA.
Good seller
I had a question before I ordered and they responded quickly. Order was delivered as promised.
