Good Machine for the money

Comments: I ordered this a a trial to see if it would work for our hospital. It's 64 bit processor, disk space and memory were all in our spec range, but its price was way below what I was expecting. I've put this one through its paces all weekend, and have been quite pleased with everything, once I reloaded Windows on it in the way we use it at the hispital. Although the machine came with Windows XP Pro preinstalled, Acer distributes the system arrived with the hard drive divided into two 40GB partitions (which I understand the reason for but don't care for myself), and had both partitions formatted as FAT32 drives instead of NTFS (which made little sense until I played with the restore utility, which is a Win 98 application that doesn't understand NTFS). Serious users will want to reformat the system with a regular XP Pro CD and then use the system disk that comes with the machine to load the drivers. After doing this, I was able to bring up a database server (MySQL), IIS, Delphi and Mono, and the system worked flawlessly and pleasantly fast. The wireless connectiity is great - it worked well anywhere on the property, right up to around 400 feet from the closest AP. It also seamlessly picked up connection to the public Internet at the restaurant where I went to lunch. Very fast, reaonably cool, comfortable keyboard, interesting touch pad (although I will always prefer my mini USB mouse), sat literally on my lap for 2.5 hours on battery with no problems. Great buy. BEWARE: Not Vista Compatible

Pros: Would work great in a XP machine
Cons: It states clearly on the front that it is Vista Compatible. However, after three rounds of trying to find the right driver to install, Vista will tell you that the Manufacturer has indicated that VIA firmware versions 5 and later are incompatible with Vista, and there will be no fix for this problem.
Overall Review: They should recall all the pacjages that indicate Vista Compatibility - it is clearly false advertizing.
Good PS

Pros: Nice layout, great packaging, good steady output, great shielding on the conduits.
Cons: Everything looks so stylish and well engineered until you see this cheap gargae electornics project type switch thrown like an OOPS after thought on the back to turn the funky blue light off. However, I'd have been more put off if there were no switch, so I am not bringing my rating down - this time.
SCREAMING

Pros: Remeber the fastest roller coaster you've ever been on? Drop the Deneb in your system, turn on all the AMD options on your motherboard, and prepare to scream like you did on the roller coaster. And it actually comes with a great cooler - first time in years I didn't have to buy a better one to get and keep good performance.
Cons: Instructions for the cooler are hard to see in the documentation - really poor black-and-white copier type printing has it all smudged. Figured it out though, but would caution who has never done it to ask someone who has a few questions if they can't make out the pictures.
AWESOME Memory

Pros: Fast. Love the cooling system. Fast. Run really cool. Fast. oh, so fast.
Cons: Wish they had a version running at 1333, 0r even 1066, but these are fast.
Fast and quiet

Pros: Much quieter than the last large drives I installed. 7200 RPM makes a noticeable difference. Easy to install - nothing to configure. My Motherboard recognized them and basically did everything for me.
Cons: None so far
