Full feature X-Fi on the cheap

Creative 70SB073A00000 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
Creative 70SB073A00000 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer

Pros: Cheapest member of the true X-Fi family.

Cons: Lacks X-Ram

Overall Review: Contrary to what some other individual's reviews on newegg say, this IS a true X-Fi card and DOES support EAX 5.0. This card directly replaced the XtremeMusic in the X-fi line up, which has been cause for some confusion. It is the XtremeAudio which is the crippled card that offers no hardware acceleration.

Pros: Whisper quiet, price

Cons: Since I received the drive it has given me several issues. The integrity of my burns is questionable at best (most other drives won't read them), it takes literally 15-20 seconds to recognize a disk placed in the drive. Additionally it seems to be a very slow reader--I would verify this suspicion with the Nero CD-DVD speed tests, but it crashes whenever these tests are attempted.

Overall Review: I've got an open RMA on this drive right now. Many report satisfaction with it, so I may have gotten a bum unit, but I wont be trying again. There are better burner deals to be found on newegg when one factors in shipping anyway.
