Best $229 I ever spent!
Pros: Perfect! Not only does it play BD & HD movies flawlessly, but it even played some Paramount DVDs that my old DVD-ROM drive wouldn't! (i.e., Star Trek II, III, Star Trek: Voyager, etc.)
Cons: Um, it isn't free? ;-) Seriously, the only flaw I can find is that you need to upgrade the bundled PowerDVD Ultra software if you want more than simply 2-channel audio, which will set you back $79.95.
Overall Review: I purchased this drive for my PC so I could finally watch Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies (even though the format war is over now). It comes with CyberLink's PowerDVD Ultra (2 channel version) and playback of the movies was VERY choppy/stuttering or they wouldn't play back at all. After spending a few hours tinkering, I narrowed down the problem to the process DLLML.exe (a Creative Labs process that came with my X-Fi sound card). It was causing the drive to read the disc every few seconds and once I terminated the process, all movies played perfectly! Creative needs to release a fix for this soon; until then, I'm disabling the process from starting up anymore.
Mostly good
Pros: Rock-solid and stable.
Cons: A possibility you might get a defective unit.
Overall Review: I think this is an excellent motherboard, overall. I'm not a big-time reviewer and know how to stress test each part of the mobo, nor do I know how to evaluate each part and how they stand up when compared to other mobos. All I can say is that the onboard audio died (well, the left channel died, which is enough), so I now need to purchase a separate sound card. I just hope nothing else dies on this motherboard.
Works just fine.
Pros: Built-in WiFi, plays CDs & MP3 players even when the power is off, etc. Has everything but the kitchen sink!
Cons: The built-in WiFi keeps losing the signal, but it could just be our office environment causing that.
Overall Review: Aside from the Wi-Fi not working well, I am pleased enough with this product to continue buying ASUS motherboards in the future.
Outstanding video card!
Pros: SUPER fast video cards! More than DOUBLED my 3DMark06 score from my old 7950 GT KO card! Putting two in SLI mode increased the score considerably more, too!
Cons: Just a tad bit high on price, but still well worth it! The cards are also very long, so make certain your case has the room for it.
Overall Review: eVGA is probably the best video card manufacturer I've ever dealt with and I am quite pleased with every card I've purchased from them. I bought two of these cards to make my first SLI rig and I can finally play Crysis on a setting higher than LOW! Hehehe... I can run it at High or Very High, but Medium seems to be perfect for the best framerates with two of these cards on my Q6600 system.
Excellent drive!
Pros: Supposedly faster than 7200rpm drives. Works great!
Cons: Costs more than a 7200rpm drive.
Overall Review: I say "supposedly" faster because I cannot see any difference so far on my Vista machine from the old 7200rpm drive and this 10,000rpm one. (It replaced my main C: drive, by the way.) Perhaps I just need to get a good defragmenter, like Diskeeper. Otherwise, I am perfectly pleased with this drive!
