Comments: Bought from newegg 5/31/2005 starting having problems 9/8/2005. This is my second ST380011A, the first one I bought 2 years ago is still working fine. This new one has not completely died but a couple days ago it suddenly became VEERRRYYY SSSLLLLOOOWWWW. I checked it with Seagate's diagnotic software and it found around 100 bad sectors. After fixing the bad sectors with the diagnostic tool, the drive seems to be running normally again. However this is unsatisfactory, drives should run with no problems shouldn't they? Also this could just be the beginning of more problems to come, as that's how it usually goes with hard drives. On the other hand I am very satisfied with my first Seagate drive (bought in THAILAND). Very quiet and no problems in 2 years of use.
Diappointed with my purchase
Comments: The drive I received was faulty. Reads fine and writes CDs fine but 90% of the DVDs I write do not verify successfully. I'm am using supported media and have my system set up properly. Tech. support says I have a defective drive. Now I have to MAIL my drive back to them (that means PAY for shipping) and the turnaround once they get it is 2 weeks! That's a month with no DVD/CD drive! After doing research I've found that many other ppl have trouble with this drive as well. Think I'm might just pick up a BenQ...
Comments: Upon 4th DVD write, drive stopped responding. After that, 4 out of 8 DVDs written had errors. Item was sent back to newegg for replacement.
