Great 1700 budget board

ASRock H610M-HDV/M.2+ D5 LGA 1700 Micro ATX DDR5 Intel H610 SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX Motherboard
ASRock H610M-HDV/M.2+ D5 LGA 1700 Micro ATX DDR5 Intel H610 SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX Motherboard

Pros: LGA 1700, DDR5, and M.2 support

Cons: Documentation and Troubleshooting guides Will not run headless without dummy plug

Overall Review: I got this board (see complete build below) to build a personal NAS / Docker development server running TrueNAS Scale. It's low on expansion options, but perfectly suited to this. I had trouble getting the system to boot initially, and the ASRock troubleshooting documentation is non-existent for this board. I tried to use beep codes from other similar board, but they weren't right. After nearly giving up and contacting customer support, I tried connecting a different display. Sure enough that worked. Turns out that it wasn't detecting my 4k portable display via HDMI as a valid display. I have setup other new builds with that display before, so the behavior was unexpected. After getting the NAS OS installed, I tried booting it headless and ran into the same 5 beep sequence as I did with the portable monitor. Subsequently I've ordered and successfully installed a HDMI dummy/ghost plug. So far the system is very stable and easily handles its NAS, Container, and VM duties without pushing the system resources anywhere near max. Build: ASRock H610M-HDV/M.2+ D5 I3-12100 w/ UHD Graphics 730 KVR48U40BS8-16 x2 WDS100T3B0C (system) KVR48U40BS8-16 x2 (NAS) ST4000VN006 x2

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model BL2KIT12864AA1065
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model BL2KIT12864AA1065

Pros: high speed, cheap price.

Cons: dual channel kit was DOA.

Overall Review: I usually buy Kingston, but ventured into what I thought was safe territory in Crucial. However, much like a few other reviews on here, both sticks are DOA.

Great deal - Check case fitment

ASRock B860I Lightning WiFi LGA 1851 Intel B860 SATA 6Gb/s Intel Core Ultra DDR5 Mini ITX Motherboard
ASRock B860I Lightning WiFi LGA 1851 Intel B860 SATA 6Gb/s Intel Core Ultra DDR5 Mini ITX Motherboard

Overall Review: I bought this for a 1U workstation build, and out of the box, it does not fit in a 1U case. There are obviously massive heatsinks on the top side, and they are supported by equally massive supports on the back side. Additionally, the second m.2 header is on the back of the board. I should have paid more attention when I bought this, but I saw a mini itx, lga 1851 on sale and I just sent it. If you're looking at this board, make sure you to your due diligence to make sure it will will work in your case.

great deal

MASSCOOL FD08025S1M4 80mm Case Cooling Fan
MASSCOOL FD08025S1M4 80mm Case Cooling Fan

Pros: came with screws, cables come sleeved- made for a VERY clean finish.

Cons: has both types of connectors.. so if you use the three pin connectors on the MB, you'll be cutting off the 4 pin connector. *shrugs*
