The Under-appreciated Claw-grip King

ZOWIE GEAR AM-GS Black 5 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Optical 2300 dpi Competitive Gaming Mouse with DPI Adjustable Switch
ZOWIE GEAR AM-GS Black 5 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Optical 2300 dpi Competitive Gaming Mouse with DPI Adjustable Switch

Pros: It took me a long time to get here. I used the venerable Logitech MX518 - G5 - G400/500 mouse shape for nearly a decade before I realized it wasn't actually the most comfortable mouse shape for the "claw grip" that I use to hold a mouse. It took about 5-6 different mice for my to figure out I like this design the most. The optical sensor is "perfect" in the sense that it has no inherent acceleration and a low lift off distance. The shape is perfect, it's basically a skinnier Sensei. The cord is the best of any mouse I've used, it is extremely flexible in a way that a braided cord could never be. It also doesn't use any poorly made 3rd party driver software, all the settings are made by holding buttons down on the mouse while you plug it in. Side buttons are in the perfect place, easy to press but not accidentally.

Cons: Some might consider the huano switches a con. Many people seem to prefer the omron switches. The switches on this mouse are a bit harder to press than the omron switches on my other mice. You also can only use one side of the mouse's shoulder buttons at once. Seems like there should have been an option to use both sides at once.

Overall Review: I bought the Zowie AM before I bought this model. I thought the AM, without the glossy sides, would make the mouse easier to lift off (I play a lot of online FPS games with low sensitivity, I'm always making long, fast swipes and re-center my mouse often). Turns out the finish on the AM is actually more slippy to the touch than the model with the glossy sides. My fingers stick to the gloss on this model and make it easier to lift than the non-glossy version.

WARNING - BLUE PCB NOT BLACK AS PICTURED

HIS Radeon HD 7970 3GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card H797F3G2M
HIS Radeon HD 7970 3GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card H797F3G2M

Pros: 7970 is a great card that currently enjoys a better price/performance ratio than the gtx 680.

Cons: NOT AS PICTURED -- Despite receiving the correct model card as shown here, it does not match the pictures. The card has a blue PCB, and is missing the metal cross-bracket on the back of the card. I wanted a second card that would match the reference model 7970 I currently own (and that is pictured here) but that is NOT what you will receive.

High-end Sound for Enthusiasts & Gamers -- For a Price

HT OMEGA eClaro 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Express x1 Interface Sound Card
HT OMEGA eClaro 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Express x1 Interface Sound Card

Pros: • Noticeably better sound quality than on-board Realtek and my aging X-Fi Extreme Gamer. • Headphone amp capable of driving up to 600 ohm headphones. • PCI-Express, does not require a molex connection for power like some other sound cards. • Tech support seems knowledgeable and responsive • Stable Drivers

Cons: • Price. It is difficult to justify the purchase of a sound card that is this expensive. You will need high quality speakers and headphones to take advantage of the sound this card provides. • Headphone amp is too close to the analog output adapter. If your headphone plug is 1/4" and uses a 3.5mm adapter, you most likely will not be able to plug it directly into the card, and will have to use the 3.5mm extension cable that comes in the box. • Front audio pins face downwards. I have a crossfire setup, with a video card one slot below the sound card. I cannot plug in the front audio cable without it being in the way of my video card. Not a big deal, but something to consider. • The manual is lackluster, and much of the text in both the manual and the HT | Omega website has grammar mistakes or is oddly worded. It almost seems like it was written by a non-native speaker of english, which is odd for a California-based company.

Overall Review: Overall I am satisfied with my purchase, and feel confident that this is a card I'll be able to use for a long while. There aren't many choices for top-of-the-line sound cards that are PCI-Express. I think this is probably the best card a high-end gamer or enthusiast could buy, with a price tag to match. For reference, I am using Sennheiser HD555's, Audio-Technica ATH-M50's and Klipsch Promedia 5.1 speakers with this card.

Impressed with Fractal Designs

Fractal Design Define R3 Arctic White w/ USB 3.0 ATX Mid Tower Silent PC Computer Case
Fractal Design Define R3 Arctic White w/ USB 3.0 ATX Mid Tower Silent PC Computer Case

Pros: Good price for a case of this build quality. In my opinion it's aesthetics are classy and subtle, a far fetch from a lot of the gaudy gaming cases you'll see. The "ModuVent" system, while horribly named, actually works well. The sound dampening padding is thick and of quality. Building in this case was easy for the most part, and I was able to hide most cabling with ease. The paint used on the case looks nice, and didn't mark up even when I accidentally hit it with a screwdriver. It comes with a fan controller, cable ties, and a lot of thumbscrews, which was nice.

Cons: There were a couple of minor faults I found with the case: • There is a TINY black smudge on the side panel that I can't get off. Again, it's really tiny and would probably only noticeable to me, but it is there. • A couple of the rivets on the inside of the case were coming up. None in important or very noticeable places. • There is not a lot of room behind the motherboard tray for cables. The most difficult part of building in this case was arranging the wires so the side panel wouldn't bulge out when closed. If you dont have a modular PSU, or are planning on hiding a lot of molex connectors or whatnot back there, forget about it. That's about all the faults I could find, which is good for a case this price. I'd probably knock half an egg off for these issues, if Newegg allowed.

Overall Review: While the ModuVent system does work well, don't expect this thing to be quiet with all the vents open (obviously). I installed an extra fan in the front, two on the top and one on the side panel, and it is far from quiet. However, it cools great and the white-bladed fans look awesome. I wanted a quality case with subtle styling that would still stand out in a crowd, and this hasn't disappointed me.

Inexpensive & Functional

Kingston ValueRAM 3GB (3 x 1GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KVR1333D3K3/3GR

Pros: Inexpensive and works at advertised speeds out-of-box.

Cons: It's not super l33t gaming RAM.

Overall Review: Upgraded an i7 920 system used for graphic design from 3gb to 6gb. Plugged these sticks in and they worked at advertised speed in triple channel. Inexpensive RAM that works at it's advertised speeds without adjustments is worth 5 eggs to me!

Good Choice at it's Price Point

Asus ML238H 23" 1920 x 1080 2ms Full HD Swivel and Tilt adjustable LEDBacklight LCD Monitor Slim Design 250 cd/m2 10,000,000 :1

Pros: •Looks great •Thin •No dead pixels •"Ring" stand works great •No ghosting •Decent amount of menu options

Cons: •No DVI port •No tactile buttons •No wall mount •"Out of box" color needs adjustment •No height adjustment

Overall Review: Good monitor for the price paid. Well-designed, LED backlit, 2ms response. "Out of box" color was pretty bad, but after adjustments the picture looks great. The touch sensor buttons look cool, but I would have preferred more traditional tactile buttons for ease of use. Monitor comes with a DVI to HDMI cable, but I still would have liked a DVI port on the monitor. Height adjustment is always nice but rare at this price point.
