Pro graphics on a budget

EVGA GeForce 7600GS 256MB GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Graphics Card 256-A8-N542-T2
EVGA GeForce 7600GS 256MB GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Graphics Card 256-A8-N542-T2

Pros: The best budget card I've seen for AGP. Runs most DirectX 9 games at good speed. Has a solid cooler, does not get too hot. Most importantly, it's a real 7600GS, with a 128bit pipe and 256Mb of fast memory - I say this because usually, a 7600 at this price is crippled or underpowered in some way. The card came with a DVI to analog adapter, so you can hook up 2 analog screens, and a bunch of other cables - some may not find this to be a big deal, but if you go to a store, those things get expensive. I didn't run any benchmarks, all I can say is that it works exactly as expected. My 5 year old plays Trackmania Nations (an addictive and free racing game) and he says the screen is not "shaky" anymore (from missed frames) - that's good enough benchmark for me.

Cons: None. Love it.

Great for shortest outages or no outages at all

CyberPower PR2200LCDRT2U 2150 VA 1980 Watts 8 Outlets UPS
CyberPower PR2200LCDRT2U 2150 VA 1980 Watts 8 Outlets UPS

Pros: - Impressive specs - Good software - 4 batteries - Sufficient outlets

Cons: - If the battery ever depletes (like in a long outage) it never comes back. I have 3 duds sitting here plugged in to prove it.

Overall Review: One weekend our building told us our local electric company is doing maintenance and we should shut everything down and unplug. Note the batteries were full at the time and no load since all servers shut down. We did so, shut down servers and unplugged the 3 large CyberPower units. Came back on Sunday morning, plugged everything back and... one Cyberpower came back but only in battery mode, as if it was not plugged in (yes, we checked outlets, fuses, little breakers on the back, etc, etc, etc...), but the other two never clicked, never beeped, never did anything, they went from happy to dead in 24 hours. Have been keeping them plugged in for the past 6 months and they are dead to the world. Not a click, not a bleep, nothing. The one that came back is acting erratic and I don't trust it anymore. I am now running my servers on ancient (cca 2008) APC units (ugly, white, grimy and with no displays - but still kicking) since my bosses can't fathom that I spent thousands on these bricks that just sit there, dead. Cyberpower units look nice and everyone loves them for their low price and their fancy blue displays, but in case of an emergency, these things are frustrating and if you are an IT professional, they can cost you your job or even your life via a heart attack. We buy these things for peace of mind. I got no peace and my mind is boggled. These are designed not to come back up (ever, unless you really believe 6 months of charging is not enough time) if the battery drops to a certain level so if your outage is longer than a few hours, you're toast. I can't even blame it on a bad batch since I bought them all separate. Whoever designed this should be fired or put into jail. Why 3 eggs then? Well, sounds like others are happy with these, don't want to ruin their happiness.

CAUTION: Heavily used & mangled

ASUS Laptop Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 4GB Memory 250GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce 9300M G 14.1" Windows Vista Home Premium X83Vb-X2

Pros: The machine itself is great for the price, it's a 2009 laptop with decent specs, a real videocard (not embedded, but a real card that's probably upgradeable - rare stuff). I knew what I'm getting into, I knew I have to spend extra money to put Win 7. I gave 3 stars because of the deplorable condition of the shell, including scratched screen and deformed keyboard.

Cons: I got RIPPED OFF. I got two heavily used and mangled machines, one with pasta sauce all over the keyboard and one with heavy scratches all over the screen, basically unusable. Yes both are "functioning", in the sense that they turn on and load an OS, I suspect refurbishing had to do with replacing hard-drives - I feel like one of the laptops was used as a project in a dodge-ball game, that's how bad it is - I wish I could paste an image here. We are not talking about normal wear and tear scratches, we are talking about someone taking a sharp screwdriver and running it all over the screen with lots of hate. The machine I'll probably be using has a wobbly crooked keyboard with a dangling Ctrl button. The person who refurbished this one didn't put too much care into not bending the keyboard. The second one will be used for spare parts, after my rage goes down and I accept my monetary loss - right now I want to throw these two laptops in the faces of people who ripped me off!

Overall Review: Not sure if I should say shame on Newegg or shame on Asus, but someone should be very ashamed. I expect to get this from someone on *Bay, never expected it on Newegg. The 3 stars are because the machine itself is good, I'm always one to tell people "review the product, don't rant". However, I caution you to stay away from "refurbished" items that are old, as you will get machines that were mangled under heavy use and restored to life.

ASRock A780LM AM2+/AM2 AMD RS780L (760G) Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
ASRock A780LM AM2+/AM2 AMD RS780L (760G) Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Got this board for a FreeNAS setup - was looking for an AMD board because I wanted a 45W CPU, 6 SATA ports, low power consumption, cheap, basic integrated VGA and good FreeBSD compatibility - this board seemed the right choice at the time (6 months ago). The setup was painless, worked from the very beginning - using CF card on the IDE port for OS. My board came with one non-functional SATA port. My 5 drive NAS machine has been running 24/7 - I'm clocking 135 days uptime since last reboot (which was an upgrade). Processor runs with stock heatsink, there's only one large 120mm fan in the case and my system is running cool. Overall very happy with the board - I'm not even taking an egg off for the broken SATA port.

Cons: Came with one dead SATA port - didn't fiddle long enough to figure out what's wrong with it.

Overall Review: Solid board.

Horrible

I ordered very expensive Holotron extinguishers ($100+ a piece). There is no tracking. Another order was delivered to a different state and they did not care about doing anything to fix. They never answered any of my inquiries. This could be a scam. Do not buy from them.

Never received item

Never received item nor any kind of updates. When I complained weeks later they replied with a link to a USPS status page that said they attempted to deliver but we changed the address? Delivery was supposed to be made to a business which has been at this address for 10 years. I've also been ordering from Newegg for years with no issues and delivering to same address. When I complained again the answer was "hey, you have Paypal account?" Sounds like a shady operation / scam.
