Makes a Good Budget Class Internal Drive

ASUS USB 2.0 6X External Slim Blu-Ray Re-writer Combo with BDXL Support MacOS Compatible Model SBC-06D2X-U/BLK/G/AS
ASUS USB 2.0 6X External Slim Blu-Ray Re-writer Combo with BDXL Support MacOS Compatible Model SBC-06D2X-U/BLK/G/AS

Pros: Nice to look at, plays well, SATA Connector. I bought this for an internal Slim drive in an ITX system build. The drive is a SATA-based slimline optical drive, mounted to an USB converter, so it was easy to pop the casing off and remove the drive for internal mounting. Works like a charm. I never use bundled software so all the complaints about no BD software don't apply here. Those discs are free coffee coasters.

Cons: Faceplate is a little long for standard slimline size, had to snip about 1" off (1/4" on one side, a whopping 3/4" on the otherside) no stars off for that, since it's marketed as an external drive.

Pros: Very heavy duty construction, no plastic, all metal. The Matte Black finish works nicely for most cases. It's not very deep at all (about 4ins) which is good for ITX systems.

Cons: The price is a bit high, but for a novelty product that will never sell in high volume, what do you expect? Oh, and? The outdated IDE to ATAPI adapter is more of a collectors item than usable. You'll need to get your own SATA adapter.

Overall Review: The honeycomb faceplates are pointless, since I see few people actually buying this and then not utilizing the Slim Drive bay and the 3.5" bay, considering the <$5 price tag on 5.25"/3.5" bay adapters. But that's just my opinion.
