great case

COOLER MASTER Elite 330 RC-330-KKN1-GP Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
COOLER MASTER Elite 330 RC-330-KKN1-GP Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: This is a great case for the $. It's a little thin but what do you want for $xx? The tool-less design works very well, the included 120mm fan in the back of the case is very quiet, everything went together very well. I have no comlaints, great value case. Even the fit and finish is very good for a economy case.

Cons: the mobo tray is not removable, I've got several older ATX cases that have removable mobo trays, this is very handy but not the end of the world.

Overall Review: I'm going to use this case when I build my wife's system in Jan. great value

Mio Venture 0038USBLK Heart Rate Watch and Calorie Count Unisex Watch
Mio Venture 0038USBLK Heart Rate Watch and Calorie Count Unisex Watch

Pros: it's not bad looking, and seems to keep the time

Cons: do NOT plan on actually exercising with this device and expect it to function properly. I wear it while exercising... I guess that was my first mistake, I do P90X and wanted something I could use to check my heart rate during the workout. Initially it works fine, once you start to sweat, forget it the sensor shorts out and it won't take your heart rate at all. It warns you about using it in a pool or where it's going to be "wet", evidently it's not meant for exercise either if you're going to sweat more than just a little. I don't know about you but when I workout, I'm not just going through the motions and P90X... I'm sweating bullets, this isn't the most expensive monitor out there but I was hoping it would actually do the job, I was sadly mistaken. If you need something to monitor your heart rate while you exercise, forget this one, I wish I could recommend a better choice, but I haven't found it yet.

Overall Review: this thing is junk, avoid it, if you need a watch, get a Timex. If you need it to monitor your heart rate while you exercise, forget it, if you sweat at all the sensor will short out and it won't work. If you're just going to wear it as a watch and periodically check your resting heart rate or after climbing the stairs in your home, it is up to that task, but only just.

kudo's to Gigabyte

GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: pretty sure I reviewed this board already, for a budget board it's a great value. I built this system as a linux box, E5300, 4gigs of ddr2-800 ram, nvidia 9400 pcie, 250g maxtor sata drive, this was a VERY capable machine till the mobo died. I setup an RMA with Gigabyte, shipped the board to them, they tested it, repaired it and shipped it back to me without any fuss. I'm writing this review from that system. I put the board back in, burned it in for 24hrs and it's running perfect. Turn-around on the RMA wasn't the best but still, they made the process of getting my board fixed painless. I currently have 3 systems all using Gigbyte mobo's I have no regrets at all. All 3 systems are rock solid and stupid fast.

Cons: I got a bad one, it happens

Overall Review: components die, it happens, 95% of the time within the first 30 days if it's going to go. I don't take points off for this as long as the manufacturer takes care of business and Gigabyte did. You can't really take points away from a good product just because you get a bad one, it happens, the QA process will miss one here and there, the actions of the manufacturer are what makes them stand above the rest. You can do a lot worse than Gigabyte.

durable as heck

OCZ Rally2 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model OCZUSBR2DC-4GB
OCZ Rally2 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model OCZUSBR2DC-4GB

Pros: updated review - I've got 2 of these, one is a portable linux install the other is just backup files and stuff, I had them in one of my motorcycle bags that fell off my bike the other day early in the morning. It was dark, before I found and collected my bag, a car ran it over for me :( pretty much everything was destroyed. my 40g usb hdd, my Creative Zen M mp3 player (tho the hdd lived) and a couple other things. None of my flash drives even blinked, they all work just fine. I was shocked.

Cons: none

Overall Review: I only wish OCZ made a 16g or 32g version I'd be all over it. I have a couple 4g OCZ Diesel drives and they were fine too. Viva the flash drive man!

not great

OCZ Diesel 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model OCZUSBDSL4G
OCZ Diesel 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model OCZUSBDSL4G

Pros: it was free with something I purchased recently, it seems to transfer files well enough

Cons: I've been trying to install ubuntu to this drive so I can pack a mobile install around with me for various reasons. I've tried the install multiple times, I'm fairly certain that I've gotten it right at least once, but it has only ever successfully booted into the OS once. I've tried booting from 4 different systems and aside from the single successful boot into Ubuntu 9.04 every time it has failed and given me I/O errors.

Overall Review: don't get me wrong, I'm sure for simple file storage this is a great little drive, I'm going to format it again and use it for just that, however, beyond simple file storage, Vista Business and Win7Professional x64 both claim this drive is not suitable for use with Ready Boost, not that I use RB, my systems all have a truckload of ram in them. I like the small size, the case is very nice and has a good feel to it. The cap is a minor annoyance since there is no lanyard or holder. I don't care about the bright red flashing light, I rather like that I don't have to peer directly at it to see if there is any activity going on.

super easy setup

GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: well laid out, not too cramped, everything went together w/out a hitch, very pleased. Biggest item of note, ever get a mobo with a PCIE lock that's impossible to reach? This board has a slick little catch that's easy to reach so removing your video card is a snap, someone was thinkin when they designed this board. 6 SATA connections are nice. Easy OC with the included utilities, I normally don't OC but running my E8400 at 3.5ghz just to see how it goes, so far stable as a rock.

Cons: I seriously can't think of a single thing, build machines long as I have and you see a lot of lousy designs, this board lacks nothing, very impressed. I'll probably date myself a little but the first machine I built from scratch was a 386sx/16 w4mb of ram.

Overall Review: I love this board, I'm very pleased, I haven't had a Gigbyte board in a while, they're looking pretty good with this one. Excellent value for a full sized board. I'm running this system with an E8400 @3.5ghz 4gigs of Gskill ram that automatically showed up at the correct type/speed (1066 - PC2-8500). Sapphire HD8430 video, running Win 7 Professional 64bit, the only problems I had initially were user error, I made a bunch of coasters trying to get my installation media created, had to use a different ISO burning utility to get the disk created. My only other thought would be if you're upgrading from something else, make sure you remove extra standoffs from your case so you don't accidentally short your board on a standoff that doesn't have a mounting hole ;)

not too bad

nothing stellar to report here. The item took too long to ship in my opinion but what do you expect for free shipping? It arrived in one piece and was not damaged. Since the transaction was unremarkable, but trouble free I gave 4 stars. The item purchased was complete garbage, but the actual purchase and that process was fine, had it not taken so long for the item to arrive I would be more inclined to have given 5 eggs, but like I said, nothing went wrong, payment was still easy which I expect from New Egg, I got the item in almost a reasonable amount of time, I got emails from them along the way confirming payment, shipment etc, so no complaints. I would buy from them again.
