Pros: Excellent product as usual from ASUS. I was surprised by the led indicators for failed RAM and CPU detection, I am new to server builds so I didn't expect them. A nice feature I hoping I will not need them in the future.
Cons: These are purely nitpicking, but I haven't seen jumpers for common settings on a board in a while. Maybe this standard for a server board, but it was unusual while making the build more entertaining. I had to turn off the onboard VGA for the PCI-e graphics to work, after some confusing time spend not understanding why it would matter.
Overall Review: 2x Opteron 6128 8x Kingston 1333 DDR3 ECC, Registered, Parity 1x OCZ Vertex2 50GB 2x WD Blue 500GB (waiting on RE4 purchase) 1x Powercolor 5770 CoolerMaster ATCS-840 case CoolerMaster UCP 1100W PSU
Pros: Excellent power for the price. I bought 2 and ended up with 16cores at $200 lower than the equivelant speed AMD 12 core. Temp at 100% cpu usage very low, but it is the lowest speed version so this is expected.
Cons: Price for the power made the chip sell out 3 times before I could order mine.
Pros: Quieter than expected. I am utilizing three monitors at 1680x1050 without issue. Make sure to get a displayport compliant monitor or an active adapter if using a third monitor. A passive adapter will work if using 1 or 2. The card is quite short compared to most modern video cards. Price for power is excellent.
Cons: none worth mentioning
Overall Review: I bought first for my wifes computer, then liked it enough to buy one for mine. I am leaving it at stock. I don't have much reason to overclock at this point. If I wanted a faster card I would just buy the 5850.
Pros: High quality build and components. At 100% cpu load on Opteron 6128 the fan did not have to go to 100% speed and remained relatively quiet (about 80% speed).
Cons: The fan is designed for servers, so at full speed it is going to be loud. I did run it at 100% for a few minutes as a test and could hear it across our smaller house.
Overall Review: I replaced the 77mm fan with a 120mm 70cfm fan using a Nexus CFA-300 case fan adaptor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811996022. It resulted in a 5C temp drop at idle and is quiet at 60C 100% load (motherboard controlled temp/fan speeds)
Pros: I didnt expect much for the price, but was very happy with the quality of the materials.
Cons: none
Overall Review: Used as an adapter to convert a CPU heat sink from a 78mm fan to 120. just had to drill new holes for the smaller fan sizes.
