Great burner
Pros: Burns a full music CD in about 5 minutes. No problems with it whatsoever.
Cons: A little loud when copying massive amounts of data from CD/DVD to HD.
Great Performance but Terrible Quality
Pros: Idles about 20c cooler than my 570 Great performance with video setting cranked on most games Fans are much quieter compared to the 570
Cons: Annoyingly loud coil whine
Overall Review: I RMAed this card 3 times to EVGA in an attempt to get a good card without coil whine but each attempt was met with failure. EVGA even did an open bench test on the last card they sent claiming that, "the last RMA was hand tested in an open bench test and produced a light amount of coil whine which is normal for most high end video cards". I am sorry but if I need to game with headphones on to drown out the coil whine, then it is not a normal amount. My old 570 has zero whine. I ran the same tests (FireStrike from 3DMark) and same games as the 970 (Titan Fall is a great game test) and it still has no audible noise emitted. In the end, I ended up using the step-up program to go for the 3975 model. My review for that card can be read there.
Great card but don't use EVGA software!
Pros: It's quiet, low power consumption, and was worth the upgrade from my 970 3975. I was hurting bad on FPS with the 970 playing games at 2560x1440. I am not a fan of SLI and wanted a single card to handle 2K resolution and this hit the spot.
Cons: Do not use EVGA software with this card, particularly precision X as it caused pretty much everything to crash. I thought I had a bad card but no... it was their software.
Overall Review: In case anyone was curious, I did go from a 10340 (970 3975) to a 12382 on 3DMark Firestrike 1.1. I am not really into stats but figured that may interest some. Intel 5820K @ 3.30 GHz 48g of GSKILL DDR4 @ 2400 Intel 730 480g SSD ASRock X99 Extreme4 850w Corsair PSU 25" 2560x1440 2K IPS Monitor
Excellent DDR4 RAM
Pros: Timings were perfect right out of the box. Running them on the XMP profile @ 2400 with no issues whatsoever. All ram passes memtest86 with 0 issues.
Cons: None
Overall Review: As chance would have it, I had purchased the blue heat spreaders with my initial build (4x 4g sticks) and now I purchased the 4x 8g black sticks and they matched up to alternating colored ram slots perfectly. Too bad I never look inside my computer unless I am installing something.
Better than the 2978 but Still a Whiner
Pros: Runs very cool with temps idling in the low 30c range for me (I like to keep the fans spinning at a low RPM rate to keep air flowing) Handles all the games I own with their settings cranked and still runs buttery smooth.
Cons: Minor coil whine is still present (not as bad as my 2978 model but still noticeable)
Overall Review: I tried 3 RMAs for my 2978 model to get one without coil whine and ended up using the EVGA step-up program to get this card. There is still coil whine present although it is nowhere near as bad as what I experienced in the 2978 model. I have had friends who have gotten whine-free cards in both models so they are out there but it comes down to luck of the draw it seems. I may try to RMA this card as well but I have not decided yet if I will just live with it and not deal with any more hassle.
I will always go GSkill from now on
Pros: Bought 2 kits of this stuff for a total of 8 gigs which is the max my MB can support. I'm running an Intel X48 so even though it says made for the P67 boards, this stuff works amazing outside of that chip set. How amazing? Well, my system has been up for 15+ days without a reboot (Adobe Reader wants me to but I refuse because I want to see how long I can go). Usage include development, gaming, and non-stop Folding at Home.
Cons: None at all.
Overall Review: Wished I would have gone GSkill from the start. I've had 4 gigs OCZ platinum for 2.5 years and would have a random reboot every 4-5 days. I always thought it was choking on something else but as it turns out, it was the ram the whole time. Other components: Intel Q9650, 8 gigs of this yummy ram, GTX570sc, Intel Extreme DX48BT2, 300gig 10k rpm raptor drive.
