Testing, testing.

Logitech C920S Pro HD 1080p Webcam With Stereo Audio and Privacy Cover (Stepup of C920)
Logitech C920S Pro HD 1080p Webcam With Stereo Audio and Privacy Cover (Stepup of C920)

Overall Review: I bought this to test on a Dell/Wyse thin client so that my company could hold online meetings via the thin client. Three other webcams crashed those devices and folks had to use a separate laptop to conduct online meetings. This model fixes that issue. Note: two microphones are on either side of the camera lens. No need for a separate mic. You will need speakers or a headset.

Not user friendly.

Logitech diNovo Mini Black 63 Normal Keys Bluetooth Wireless Mini Keyboard
Logitech diNovo Mini Black 63 Normal Keys Bluetooth Wireless Mini Keyboard

Pros: Useful if you have nothing else. Setup is easy.

Cons: Backlit only when you're typing. Buttons not well spaced. Some buttons are in odd places which makes learning by heart more difficult. Finger pad not precise. Not Windows Media Center friendly.

Overall Review: See cons above. I recently replaced this with an IO Gear wireless keyboard with trackball. Trackballs allow both of your hands to remain holding onto the keyboard.

From now on I will buy my PCs directly from Dell.

Pros: Looks pretty. Adequately does the job.

Cons: Unexpectedly slow. Hangs a lot. Sometimes freezes for no reason. Occasionally displays "snow" on the monitor after a reboot. Requires daily reboot to avoid hangs/freezes, not to improve performance. Front audio jack resists being plugged? Doesn't always turn on when power button is pressed. Memory card slot doesn't accommodate most cards.

Overall Review: I was about to reboot, again. But thought I should do a review after 2 years. I thought an i7 processor with 16 GB RAM would be fast. But this moves like an i3 with 8 GB most times. I will wake to find "snow" like on old TVs which requires total shutdown and restart after 10 minutes. Frequently the hard drive will start running as if writing a lot of data but nothing shows up on Task Manager. Sometimes I physically disconnect it from the network or I turn it off to stop that. I've removed factory installed games and non-essential apps. The speed in which apps/files open and folder contents display is not discernibly different from previous PCs I've owned. It's made me think that Windows OS runs at the same speed on all computers no matter the specs. It still doesn't explain the hangs and freezes. Or the delays when I rename a file and have to walk away as the folder needs to repopulate its contents. I have back-ups (always good to have) on back-ups. That's the level of confidence I have in this computer. I know it's pre-owned/used but it seems factory refurbished yet doesn't run like I would've expected this computer to run straight off the assembly line. I have 1 window open and it's starting to slow down again. I think this PC is angry at me. I'm gonna reboot now.

Just BASIC.

Overall Review: Retail stores won't carry the Basic edition. It's substantial mark-up in price for the next edition - which is not necessary for my case. So every year I bother Newegg with this Basic order.

Pro for home.

Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Upgrade [from Home to Pro] [Digital Download]
Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Upgrade [from Home to Pro] [Digital Download]

Overall Review: In order to get networking features I had to buy this Pro Upgrade. I installed it on the OEM hard drive. But when that failed I installed it on the replacement hard drive. It's just a license number. The Internet does the hard work of doing the installation.

The Replacement HDD.

Seagate ST1000LM035 1TB 5400 RPM 128MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive

Overall Review: After 2020 the original laptop hard drive failed. It was nearly 24/7 work. The system warned me before the hard drive failed. I replaced it with the same brand and model. Though I am not a fan of Seagate, I didn't want to mess with Dell's original setup.

Look it me.

Brand new PC in original packaging. So far it has worked most excellently. I think this machine will do for a decade... unless quantum computing becomes a thing. I did read comments about the power button on the front of the case. You need to keep you finger on it until it lights up. This appears to be by design in case of accidental pressing. Also, laptop-style flimsy optical drives is the trend. I prefer the Apple's motorized slots but it's probably patented and/or not being licensed to PC manufacturers. Otherwise, this is a good buy.

Off the rails.

Apparently, there are different rails for different rack enclosures. The rails that came with this unit are too long for mine. There was no mention of rail specs so I haven’t installed the computer. The seller has not responded to my request for help. I’m ready to buy a set of rails that will fit but Newegg’s product descriptions will likely have me ordering the wrong rails. So I’m stuck on this project. :(

Ask about the rails!

The unit works. Currently, I installed WHS 1.0 which runs even though it's missing a bunch of device drivers for the motherboard et al. I will eventually install a newer operating system. There was no description for the rails which, in this case, are 25.5" deep and installs with a spring loaded mechanism. It doesn't fit my enclosure which is 24" deep and uses screws. I noticed that the vendor was helpful to other customers so I contacted for their recommendation on how to correct the issue but got no response. There's a YouTube video with a guy who cut his rails shorter. I will save that as a last resort. If anyone knows which rails fit my enclosure please respond to this review. I can just buy rails that fit.
