Very impressive proc.

AMD Phenom II X3 720 - Phenom II X3 Triple-Core 2.8 GHz Socket AM3 95W Black Processor - HDZ720WFGIBOX
AMD Phenom II X3 720 - Phenom II X3 Triple-Core 2.8 GHz Socket AM3 95W Black Processor - HDZ720WFGIBOX

Pros: I do a lot of video and audio ripping, transcoding, encoding, etc. This thing was a tremendous jump from my AM2 5400. My working time has been cut in half. After a week of burn-in, I started playing with some overclocks- this chip is supremely easy to bump up. I didn't mess with the stock voltage of ~1.35v, and bumped the multiplier to 16, and this thing was rock solid doing video processing overnight. My aftermarket cooler is good, but I didn't really feel like pushing any further at this time. I backed the multiplier back down to x15, and it has been working like a champ for a couple of weeks, now. It idles at just under 40degrees C. and when I'm REALLY pushing it, it gets up to 50-ish degrees C. I upgrade about every 2 years, and this is the first chip I've gotten in a while that's just "felt" all-around better/faster/stronger than the previous one in my system. If you are an A/V person on a budget, this is a hard chip to beat, for the price.

Cons: The included heat sink is really junky for what I would consider AMD's higher-end line of procs. I would have thought that they would use one of their heat-pipe sinks, similar to what I've gotten with previous Opterons. No eggs taken off for this, though. I'm sure it works just fine with no overclocking on the chip. Frankly, I'm surprised that there was a heat sink included at all with a Black Edition. They didn't use to include them. Everybody always gets nuts about the Egg's shipping, but it's never struck me as overly impressive. And I only live 5-ish hours from the warehouse this was shipped from. Not a real complaint... just an observation.

Overall Review: Running this on a Gigabyte 780g mobo, with 2gigs of Mushkin memory. After I popped this chip in, my mobo automatically ramped the memory up to DDR2 1066 speeds... nice! At average load, runs at 43degrees C. with my Cooler Master heat-pipe cooler. I don't have a mobo capable of unlocking a 4th core, but some software of mine has detected an available 4th core. I'm hoping that when I upgrade my mobo, that I will be able to have a stable unlocked 4th core. That would be pretty nice. I know that this is a gamble, though. I certainly wouldn't have bought this chip with the sole intention of unlocking a fourth core. Seems a silly gamble for as inexpensive as AMD 4-core chips are.

Most Critical Review

Meh.

ENCORE Video Tuner & Capture Card ENLTV-FM PCI Interface
ENCORE Video Tuner & Capture Card ENLTV-FM PCI Interface

Pros: The remote is kind of nice to have with my PC. While it's no Theater Master, it is an OK remote. The FM is pretty decent, once you get it set. The packaging was good.

Cons: The manual is not great, and the TV tuner is mediocre. If it wasn't for the time I spent reading the comments on here, I'm not sure I would've been able to set this up, and I'm pretty adept inside a computer case. Many of the features are not very intuitive.

Overall Review: Free after rebate. I guess. I still haven't gotten my rebate from them... but Newegg took care of me. Great customer service from Newegg is keeping me from being upset about this transaction. For free, this may be worth having (I'm just using it for the FM and the remote), but I really wouldn't recommend it for a real HTPC... it just is not that good of a product.

Very nice card

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 3470 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card 100235L

Pros: I am quite impressed with this card. Build quality is nice. Heatsink is not a piece of junk, like I've seen on many lower price-point cards. It is, obviously, silent. Does not get overly hot, IMO. Movies look fantastic on my monitor (CRT). Well packaged, and I am VERY happy that it came with the HDMI adapter (comes with pretty much any adapter a modern set-up would need, really). I look forward to integrating this into a HTPC.

Cons: None that I can speak of, for the card itself. Still waiting on that rebate, though....

Overall Review: I am not a gamer, at all, so my requirements are not outrageously high. Currently running in a 780G Gigabyte mobo. Still running XP, so I am not able to test the Hybrid Crossfire, yet. I am anxiously awaiting that, though. This is my first ATI card in 7 or 8 years, and I am pretty blown away by the price vs. performance.

Quality memory

Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) with EPP Profile Desktop Memory Model 996533
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) with EPP Profile Desktop Memory Model 996533

Pros: Very nice packaging (for what that's worth...). Memory works as specified. I've given it a very mild overclock, and am running it at 1.8v. No problems, whatsoever. The heatsinks are better quality than many I have seen, but...

Cons: The heatsinks aren't attached tightly. Not necessarily a big deal, but that could be a little issue if you are particularly ham-fisted. Just be careful where you are pushing, when installing them.

Overall Review: These seem like good quality sticks, maybe the nicest I've used in many years of building my own boxes. Very happy. The only problem I had was with my Gigabyte board (780G Chipset) not wanting to reset, and some other peculiarities, until I disabled the EPP. This is a board issue, though, and not due to the memory. Just thought I'd mention it, since that is a very popular chipset/mobo right now.

Very quiet

COOLER MASTER RR-CCH-L9U1-GP 92mm Hyper TX2 CPU Cooler
COOLER MASTER RR-CCH-L9U1-GP 92mm Hyper TX2 CPU Cooler

Pros: This thing is very quiet in an opened case. Virtually imperceptible noise-level in a closed case. Super-easy to hook up. (Seriously, people, if you can't hook up a cooler, then don't put your Technical Understanding as "high". Also, you shouldn't fault the fan because of Intel's/AMD's designs.).

Cons: Very large fan, but worked fine on my ATX mobo... it could be of some concern to those with mATX boards, I suppose.

Overall Review: I have a Gigabyte 780G ATX mobo and Mushkin Memory (with heat sinks), and this fan fits just fine. As a side note, I would like to point out that reviews would be easier to read if people would take the time to spell correctly and at least attempt proper grammar.

Decent, inexpensive PS

RAIDMAX RX-380K 380 W ATX12V Power Supply
RAIDMAX RX-380K 380 W ATX12V Power Supply

Pros: Inexpensive, plenty of connectors. Decently quiet. It works.

Cons: Seems like there is no weight to it- in other words, it initially seems to be a cheaply-built product.

Overall Review: Free after rebate, in theory. Another "rebate" deal that I've not seen a rebate on. Newegg customer service keeps me coming back, though. Even at the regular price for this unit, it's still an OK deal. I've had no problems with it, using it extensively on one of my primary computers. Paying full price- OK deal. With rebate- I recommend this unit.
