Ahhhhh !

Western Digital Ultrastar 14TB DC HC500 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Data Center Internal Hard Disk Drive - 0F31284
Western Digital Ultrastar 14TB DC HC500 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Data Center Internal Hard Disk Drive - 0F31284

Pros: Elbow room. Writing 8+ tb took hours, not days. Finally, everything on ONE drive again. As opposed to scattered across a fistful of 4tb. Does NOT require special power plug. The only sound I hear is dull thumping when the head thrashes. Stays cool writing for hours.

Cons: Has the new mounting hole spacing, which my old case does not support at all. Some fabrication required. Price, duh.

Overall Review: What I wanted existed at the exact same time that I wanted it. Still costs less than a new videocard, shucks, I bought 2 and both of them together still cost less than Ray Tracing. Edit, just bought my 9th all looking good so far

APT TJ3301-3 Jeweler's Pin Vise Fits 0.0mm to 2.5mm - 2 Collets
APT TJ3301-3 Jeweler's Pin Vise Fits 0.0mm to 2.5mm - 2 Collets

Pros: I was able to use it to drill out the rivet heads in my case

Cons: managed to clamp the drillbit at an angle consistently even though it fit the mandrel properly. squeaks at the thrust bearing, not properly lubed at the factory.

Overall Review: stereotypical Chinese low quality that can be made to work adequately, money better spent elsewhere.

Instead of LEDs

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C19D-32GVRB

Pros: The thermal pads, although stoutly attached are not difficult to pull off the memory for heat spreader removal. 16gb per stick. A pair of 16gb 3600 cost me the same as a pair of 8gb 2400 cost me a year or two ago.

Cons: The very stylish heatspreaders are DESIGNED to actually INSULATE the memory from cooling. W T F ! At least the aluminium insulators are easy to pull off. (note, the adhesive peels off nicely from the memory chips, but sticks ASTONISHINGLY well to the circuit board. While still insulating whatever it is stuck to as good as it is designed to do.)

Overall Review: Stupid "styling" easily corrected.

perfection no reflection

Lian Li PC-Q33B Black Aluminum Mini-ITX Tower Chassis
Lian Li PC-Q33B Black Aluminum Mini-ITX Tower Chassis

Pros: fold front and top assembly completely out of the way. everything that isn't fastened with nuts 'n' bolts uses pop rivits. easy to drill out rivits no less. flat motherboard. psu opening is sized so the psu slides streight in from the opposit end from the front. as opposed to having to have enough wasted space to shove it into the case from the side. the hinges show that someone was paying attention while designing them. the side panels are secure, until you pull on them then they pop right off. I want a couple more

Cons: no handle atop it. not in stock. only 3 harddrive mounts, my mobo has 4 sata sockets to raid 10 4 drives so,, some modifications required to hold another drive, plenty of room for it.

Overall Review: outstanding use of desk space.

silly looking

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Desktop Memory Model F4-2400C15D-16GVR
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Desktop Memory Model F4-2400C15D-16GVR

Pros: worked properly first time. the doofy looking anodized aluminium decorations pulled off easily.

Cons: the decorative bits were easy to pull partly because the adhesive TIM pads were NOT stuck to the hot bits at all consistently.

Overall Review: without the "heatspreaders" on the sticks stay cool, if I run some memory intensive program that DOES heat them up I have copper sheet that would be great for heat spreading, not least because I would install them to PROPERLY contact the hot bits to the copper HS.

Dayton Audio B652-AIR 6-1/2" Bookshelf Speaker Pair with AM 300-651
Dayton Audio B652-AIR 6-1/2" Bookshelf Speaker Pair with AM 300-651

Pros: looks good, the AMT tweets crisp and smooth, not at all harsh. the woofer rumbles nicely. high freq are VERY directional so placement and aim are important and useful.

Cons: using a cheapo 10w/ch RMS amp and it shows. flacs from the computer (1220 onboard soundcard) lack presence in the frequencies that a pair of bose is able to produce.

Overall Review: on the gripping hand, EQ will probably help lots OR my hearing is just that bad, we'll see.
