Most Favorable Review

Outstanding

AMD A10-6700 - A-Series APU Richland Quad-Core 3.7 GHz Socket FM2 65W AMD Radeon HD 8670D Desktop Processor - AD6700OKHLBOX
AMD A10-6700 - A-Series APU Richland Quad-Core 3.7 GHz Socket FM2 65W AMD Radeon HD 8670D Desktop Processor - AD6700OKHLBOX

Pros: Integrated graphics. No need for a seperate video card. Runs cool and quiet with stock heatsink and fan. No need for aftermarket cooler. Cheap.

Cons: It's not free.

Overall Review: The A10-6700 is being used in a HTPC. Even running a high action movie like Total Recall (2012) according to CPUID HWMonitor Pro the CPU never gets over 120 degrees. Idle it stays about 90 degrees. I'm quite happy I chose AMD over Intel. Most Critical Review

Disappointing

HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KHX6400D2K2/2G
HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KHX6400D2K2/2G

Pros: Nice heat spreaders.

Cons: HyperX would not work with a DFI LANParty UT NF590. It would not boot computer during first install. I reinstalled the Crucial Ballistix I have been using and set the RAM voltage to 2.2 and I got to desktop with the HyperX. I ran Quake 3 timedemo and my computer blue screened. I swapped the RAM modules around and finished the time demo slightly faster than the Crucial had in the past. I tried 3dMark 2001 and the HyperX crashed to the desktop with an error and crashed Windows Explorer. I have been having some problems the two of the four Crucial modules and I wanted to make this computer build a bit longer to help survive the recession but I couldn't find a list of compatible RAM for this motherboard, and it's quite picky. Kingston listed the HyperX as being compatible, but I can't get it to run stable.

Overall Review: Hopefully I can still RMA this RAM.

VRM Whine at High Resolution

Overall Review: This is a brand new build four days old. Everything is fine, until I play a game in the higher resolutions. Then immediately there's a high pitched scream from the VRM. I hate it! I built this computer with, what I thought were the best parts, the best parts for what I wanted the computer for only to have this utterly annoying screeching. I suppose I compound the matter by putting my build on a open air test bench, but I really expected better. Overall Review: I just finished building a brand new Ryzen based computer. It took about a hour to finish the computer. I didn't know what to expect with the new components of this build. I knew it would be faster than my old system which consisted of an AMD FX6300 and Gigabyte 1050 GPU. After some game testing with Quake Champions to get the mouse and video configured I noticed the Gigabyte LED wasn't glowing. Looking closer the fans weren't moving! I semi panicked! Oh great my brand new video card is fried!! I had HWMonitor running to check temps and to my utter shock and disbelief after about 45 minutes of game play with the game video maxed to ultra the GPU temperature was 136F! I do believe I've hit the GPU lotto. If I did or didn't I'm impressed with the quality of the video card! Fantastic!

Turtle Beach TBS-1150-01 Virtual 5.1 Surround Channels USB Interface Analog & Digital Audio Adapter
Turtle Beach TBS-1150-01 Virtual 5.1 Surround Channels USB Interface Analog & Digital Audio Adapter

Pros: It's still supported with an up to date driver. Install is quite easy if you follow the PDF instructions from the zip file. According to my Onkyo TX-DS787 display panel it passes Dolby Digital audio through the optical SPDIF not Dolby Pro Logic I was getting before.

Cons: None so far.

ASRock FM2A88X-ITX+ FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) USB 3.0 HDMI Mini ITX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Well thought out design. Everything seems to work correctly. This being my first build in over 4 years so it's nice to have WiFi and bluetooth onboard.

Cons: Not a real con to knock off a star. I bought a motherboard not a driver DVD, but really ASRock, the DVD was unreadable in three >3< different DVD drives, one drive I ordered the same day as the motherboard. The only thing that could be read were the utilities so I had to download the drivers from the slow as (expletive) ASRock web site, only to find the allin1 drivers were Catalyst 8 AMD drivers. Over TWO hours to download drivers!

Overall Review: If you get no video from first boot you don't have the RAM seated correctly, even though it looks like its in it's not. Use the ASRock A-Tuning program to read temperatures, not a downloaded monitor program so you don't freakout and spend $50+ on a aftermarket CPU cooler that probably isn't needed. Right now A-Tuning is showing 93F and HWmonitor is showing 139F. ASRock, find someone else to duplicate you driver DVDs.
